People are genera;lly not stupid, so they try to migrate to countries that are doing well; hence the huge migrations to America, from all over the world, to get to a country doing well. It is a pretty simple driver, it is pretty simple to understand, people have beeen doing this for ever, like over 4000 years.
Why is nobody migrating to China? Can’t amswer that, although I think the language (spken and written) is a big factor at the moment, soon to be a nothing factor once competent translation is available.
Anyway, why are the south americans still migrating to the USA? If people have historically migrated to countries doing well, then they should be avoiding the USA. This migration will end, eventually, as even the dumbest south american will eventually realise that their family will not be better off if they live in the USA, but I kind of wonder how long this “dawning” on the south american population will take.
Anyway, I migrated to China many decades ago, for precisely this reason. I could see that China was doing better that everybody else. In the same way that people flooded to America in the last century, I flooded to China. The strange thing, to me, is that the Americans don’t seem to be able to participate in this entirely natural, historical process; they still think that the USA is rising, not falling. Ok, they are adults, let them believe what they want to … go Scofield.
In other words, your only agency is to change country; which also means to change government. I know it sounds difficult, but actually it is fairly easy, but it is the only power you actually possess. I have a friend who moved to China from New Zealand about 6 months after Ardern was elected.
