What he’s doing is putting more and more small community banks underwater. Holding long treasuries at 1-2% when Powell suddenly ramped up interest rates to 4-5% is putting a major financial strain on small banks. The Fed has been in the business of consolidating banks into fewer and larger banks for 30 years. This continues that effort. (It’s a terrible idea to eliminate more and more small banks. The big banks don’t lend to small business. It does give the Fed greater and greater control over Main Street economics, in my opinion.) Powell is following the Fed’s longstanding plan.

He is slowly re-capitalizing the big US banks by paying them billions in interest on excess reserves that they have sitting at the Fed. When interest rates are cut, the rate which they earn on excess reserves drops also.
Loan delinquency/default rates are already heading into dangerous territory and the economy is not even in recession yet. The banks will need this extra capital when that happens.
According to Dr. D and his sidekick Saint Luongo, keeping rates high is crushing London and the Eurotard Zone.

I gotta admit…I get wierded out by men who are either militantly for or against abortion. Either way, it is a male placing ownership rights over the reproductive organs inside of a woman. Women are fully capable of making their own decisions about their reproductive organs, and don’t need men trying to do it for them. (And, by the way, I personally abhor abortion, but I believe that the woman, being the human tasked with carrying the fetus until it is able to exist without her womb, is the human who should be directing the decision-making for both herself and the unborn child.)
