Confront that friend straight to his face and demand that he clean up his life and stop betraying his whole family, who are trusting him with their security and welfare, who are DEPENDING upon him to honor his spoken promises, and unspoken duty.
And good luck explaining away silent complicity to home wrecking to your own missus, that’s going to pretty difficult too. But if you DON’T get that done somehow then you WILL pay the price, because partnership is built (or dismantled) by honesty and trust. You can’t build genuine trust by keeping secrets from your partner, and ESPECIALLY those kinds of secrets that could have a serious impact on their lives.
Are these harsh words? No. The are TRUE words.
Do I expect you to follow this good advice? No. I expect you to exercise your own free will based on the best truths that you can get your hands on. My job is to give you the truth. YOUR job is to decide what to do with it.

Courts and hospitals are the two slowest institutions that I have ever dealt with. They both have the ability to move fast when there is a true crisis, but the rest of the time they move at a snail’s pace.

I have three teens. They have grown up with the understanding that they are obligated to complete high school, and then their life choices are up to them. Dropping new, post secondary obligations upon them suddenly is not likely to inspire much more than rebellion.

I think that it is nice that aspnaz is here. Otherwise, it is easy to become complacent. There are always going to be humans with ideas that I believe are wrong-headed. The real challenge is how to have a reasonably harmonious society with “liberty and justice for all” — even those that I disagree with vehemently. Even my ex husband who has tried to destroy everything positive in my life, on multiple occasions. Life would be boring without some challenges along the way.
I like having him around, too, and voicing his opinions (some of which are astute and rational). As for the wrong-headed stuff that he’s prone to display, well, at least he’s communicating. How else could mistakes be seen and corrected if he didn’t speak up and say what he is thinking? In other words, aspnaz is just like all the rest of us, only somewhat more annoying.
