All of this serves as a distraction so that the loss of Ukraine and the collapse of the front doesn’t hit the public so hard.

and Alternate Head of UK Delegation to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea Prepcom.1) The flotilla is on the High Seas and not in Israel’s 12 mile territorial sea. Israel has no jurisdiction.
2) The Israeli maritime blockade has been in place for 17 years and is an intrinsic part of the long term occupation found illegal in the ICJ advisory opinion
3) It is therefore not a short term measure in time of armed conflict as specified in the San Remo manual
4) In any event the San Remo rules explicitly state that humanitarian supplies may not be blockaded
5) The UN Commission of Inquiry has already determined that Israel is committing genocide. The blockade is plainly a part of the machinery of such genocide.
For reasons 1 to 5 the Israeli attack on the flotilla is plainly illegal.
6) On the High Seas, the law applying on each ship is the law of its flag state. An attack by a state military warship on a vessel on the High Seas is an attack on the flag state of the vessel attacked.
7) Acts of illegal possession of vessels or abduction of crew on the High Seas should be pursued by each flag state as crimes within their domestic jurisdiction, not only in international law.
8) So the Metropolitan Police and DPP have an obligation to investigate and act over the abduction of persons from UK flagged vessels on the High Seas.

Time for a history refresher going all the way to a couple or so years ago. Russia ultimately decided (after initial mis-assessment of the situation) to wage the war in Ukraine as a war of attrition. That’s what they’ve done so far, that’s what they’re doing right now, and that’s what they are going to keep doing until Russia has achieved it’s security goals and objectives, and the West has de-facto conceded (though NEVER publicly admitted or spoken) that it has lost and will not achieve it’s own objective (which was to break Russia into parts to be more easily stolen.
I’m still banking on the West going tits up at it’s increasingly hasty rate, and Russia and the rest of BRICS winning handily. There’s always the chance of nukes, of course, but that’s simply baked into the cake no matter how you cut it. (Damn but I do love to mix metaphor! In the past several days I have been surprised, shocked at the level of criticism of the way the war in Ukraine is being conducted now aired daily on Russian state television. Applying my skills as a Sovietologist from the past, I would say on this basis that a coup against Mr. Putin is being prepared. News presenters who take their cues from on high and who in the past said it is not for us to tell the Supreme Military Commander how to wage the war are now doing just that both by their criticism of the escalatory path due to Western perceptions of Russia as weak and by extensive air time given to the derogatory remarks and taunts being addressed to Putin by Donald Trump and his entourage including J.D. Vance…
..Official polling data shows that Vladimir Putin’s popularity rating among Russians has descended lately from 80% to 79%, which is negligible. But no one is asking the public whether the war is being prosecuted correctly, and I believe that if that were done a majority would be found to say ‘no.’
On consideration, I see two possibilities to explain the harsh criticism of Putin’s war of attrition on television. The first, as I say at the outset, is that political forces which are prepared to oust Putin and replace him with a more aggressive figure are preparing the public for what is about to happen. The other possibility is that Putin himself is about to change course and do what a large part of Russia’s political establishment wants: namely to attempt a decapitation strike against the Zelensky regime using Oreshniks and other strike missiles to wipe out the neo-Nazi, deeply anti-Russian gang that has held Ukraine by the neck ever since the February 2014 coup d’etat.

The RN is suing civilly because she followed proper whistleblower protocol, keeping true to her profession’s license and ethics, and was retaliated against by her employer. PREP Act does not apply. A civil suit like this IS the path to change things like the PREP Act. We all tend to dislike top-down, autocratic authority (with perhaps the exception being aspnaz who moved deliberately to China and likes participating in that country.). If that is the case, then it is inappropriate to expect or demand that autocratic authority (such as Trump or HHS sec.) be used to strike down inappropriate laws and regulations. It needs to be done through proper channels, through rule of law or correct application of the courts
