Well, let’s start with some good news; I have, in my hand, Joseph Heller’s, Picture This!
Arrived about 5 hours ago (15 pages in) from my dear sister in the U.S..
Also of note; it’s a new paperback; only $17.00 USD. 😉
I’m seeing why you rated it compulsory reading…
Thank you very much for that Ilargi…

That, by any measure, is a fantastic painting and apropos of our recent tragedy.
I say our, because this a universally tragic event…

    Enjoy, VA!

BTW, I have no idea whatsoever why America is obsessed with Smollett. Every single day brings more stories about nothing. Is this some inevitable consequence of shortening attention spans?

The size of that painting is stunning. Rembrandt’s Nightwatch is known for being enormous (it is, I saw it often). That’s 363 cm high × 437 cm wide(11.91 ft × 14.34 ft). The Coronation is over twice the width and almost twice the height. I’m trying to imagine the amount of paint it has taken, and of trying to mix its colors in sufficient quantities. Napoleon must have provided David with an army of helpers.

I’m so far removed from the U.S. on every level; music; TV; comedy; current events; and all other happenings.
Hell; I dumped my TV in 1994; and haven’t owned one since…
I’m the last one, for any information, of current events in the u.s…. 😉

Jussie Smollet is a black American actor who allegedly perpetrated both a hoax hate crime and a hoax chemical weapons attack, and blamed it on Trump. There are witnesses, evidence, and even admissions of guilt.

Chicago D.A. let him off, and even the black police chief and the ultra-democratic Obama Mayor Rahm Emmanuel are super p’d about it. It’s far too far even for them.

So yeah, openly perpetrating several racial hate crimes in an environment of inciting open civil war is kind of a big deal, and even the left and black community don’t buy it and are against him. Yet he walks. Discuss?

“CIA Director Used Fake Skripal Incident Photos to Manipulate Trump (MoA)”

So he ignores the Intelligence agencies while he uncritically believes everything the intelligence agencies tell him? He then is a Putin puppet and Russian asset while he also is over-the-top anti-Russian without the slightest credible cause? Bejeebus, pick a side, will ya? But no, Trump: all brains switch off and leave only the residual-lizard brain to think with.

Bonus round: he doesn’t have to be one or the other, either. He doesn’t have to be the bad extreme of over, or under; of left or right. He can actually be in the middle, doing and deciding things on a case basis like every other human on earth does. But hold on: Trump, therefore brains are stalled in the headlights, and the thought he may NOT be the extreme example of evilly, evil with extreme evil and evil sauce, wildly gyrating from obedient evil to rebellious evil, that he simultaneously holds ultra-super-pro Russian and ultra-super-anti Russian views, that he somehow both childishly, trustingly obeys Intel, and yet somehow opposes, attacks, and destroys Intel too, is considered perfectly normal and logical. Not worthy of discussion or note at all. Of COURSE he does all things we don’t like, AND the opposite of them we don’t like, as long as it’s what we don’t like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Minutes_Hate

Doublethink: /ˈdəbəlˌTHiNGk/ The acceptance of or mental capacity to accept contrary opinions or beliefs at the same time, especially as a result of political indoctrination.

    Speaking of Doublethink:

“As a man, I feel I have no right to express an opinion regarding those allegations.”

So citizens are not allowed to hold opinions now? Surely that’s free speech. Does that mean they can no longer be jurors too, in our world of supra-equality where some animals are more equal than others? How about this notion: all citizens are equal, not distinguished from each other, and therefore ALL can speak and offer opinions equally? Is that too radical now?

“During Assange’s years in Ecuador’s embassy, … many friends and colleagues mocked his fear”

Just shows how fatally disingenuous they are. So are they going to publically admit their mistake and leap to his defense? No, because they never cared, or probably looked in the first place. It was childishly easy to see this would happen. How can dummies like me get it right all the time and not the schmartz-guys, the media, professors, and politicians? Because they’re dumb or cowardly or complicit, and should all be fired immediately, I care not for which reason.

“Notre Dame will be renovated within five years”

Speaking of so incredibly dumb you need to be fired on the spot. It took a full 100 years to build and we couldn’t build a pop-up skyscraper in 5 years. What does he think a church is made out of, silly string and pixie dust? The back window alone might take 5 years, and that’s after the church is enclosed. But nevermind, we just say things and make them up, and when they come out of our mouths, they’re true! I read it on the internet! And no one will dare speak otherwise or Macron’s gendarmes will shoot them in the face with a riot bomb.

“Theresa May has “no chance” of passing her Brexit deal”

She has no intention of passing it. She wants to delay it forever, and therefore keep the UK in the worst position possible. Someday it can be stalled long enough they “have” to call a second referendum, snap on the day they think Remain has the upper hand. It’s going marvelously well. Marvelously destroying Britain down to its roots. But like all places, the people are a lot tougher than they think.

“Not In It To Win It: The Dirty Little Secret Of The Democrats’ 2020 Battle (G.)”

You’d think I was kidding, gone ‘round the bend hyperbolic and just being mean saying the left were all attacking each other, but the World Socialist Equity party, sister to the British Worker’s Revolutionary Party, have just stated that Bernie Sanders is a White Nationalist. Yes, that’s right: the furthest left major candidate is not just too far right for them, but they suggest HE’S AS FAR RIGHT AS HITLER. Wish I were kidding, they say his policies are so far right, they mirror Trump’s.

Used to be kind of a joke to say, Little Golden Books: “Everybody I Don’t Like is Hitler” or that they hate anyone to the Right of Mao, but . . . here we go. Maybe this isn’t mainstream yet, but the vanguard just crossed that line.

“Sanders called out Trump for not going far enough on this score.

Seeking to attack Trump from the right and outdo the president’s appeal to chauvinism and xenophobia, the Vermont senator declared…etc

… Sanders was praised by the American neo-Nazi leader Richard Spencer for these remarks.”

I got nothin’. Wish I were surprised, but can only ask ‘have we reached the high-water mark yet?’ Can we stop now and look back to the center, and to talking and listening and working together? Seems like time. Please, please.

    Our Lady

I was so saddened by the news today
I saw a venerable old lady smoking
How I had admired her special way
But now, full of fumes, she was choking

She stood just as proud and grand as ever
As I watched a licking flame
Near a thousand years of quiet endeavour
Put our modern era to shame

The fire out, a smouldering wreck
The billionaires say they’ll repair her
What do they know with their money? Heck,
She’s not just some ugly skyscraper!

She was the very heart and soul of Paris
Nay, of the whole of France
We’ll do what we can to fix her up, yes,
But restore her in full? Not a chance

A symbol of France having lost her way
It couldn’t be any more poignant
All the best has been allowed to decay
While the worst returns to the forefront

    HOW to make Enemies

Have you seen where the puppet masters are hiding?

There is modern warfare happening around us and we can’t even notice it.
No its not normal capitalism in action.

Charles Hugh Smith looks at the sustained assault upon French identity.
These are not matters solely of politics and finance; they are manifestations of the elite war on the identity of France.
As rationalists, we’re supposed to take the dramatic and profoundly tragic fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris as random chance or bad luck. But I cannot be the only one who feels a symbolic tie between the near-destruction of a French religious and cultural icon and the embattled identity of France.
As it happens, I am reading Fernand Braudel’s massive two-volume history The Identity of France: Volume One: History and Environment and Volume Two: People and Production…
The Chinese famously view natural disasters and similar events as portents of political change, as disasters suggest the Emperor/ruling elite has lost the Mandate of Heaven. It is difficult not to see the disastrous fire in Notre Dame as just such a portent.
For the identity of France is under assault on a number of fronts. The left-leaning status quo has set up a false duality: one either worships multiculturalism and rejects a national identity as the sworn enemy of multiculturalism, or one is a rightist racist. Thus anyone who even refers to a national identity of France is quickly vilified and marginalized…
These are not matters solely of politics and finance; they are manifestations of the elite war on the identity of France, to transform it into a bland, globalized hierarchy in which capital and power benefit the few, a system enforced by state propaganda and public virtue-signaling...
The corporate media, a key defender of the self-serving elite, will reject any symbolism in the near-destruction of Notre Dame. But deep down, many sense what cannot be spoken openly: the elites in France have lost the Mandate of Heaven.

The cause of the Notre-Dame Cathedral fire is still being investigated and the Paris prosecutor has ruled out arson and says it was likely the result of an accident.
“We are favoring the theory of an accident,” prosecutor Remy Heitz told reporters Tuesday.
The fire to the iconic church, however, may have raised awareness to a rash of vandalism to French churches. A total of 875 of France’s 42,258 churches were vandalized in 2018, with a small fire set to the Saint-Sulpice church in Paris in March, according to French police.
In the same week that the fire broke out at the Saint-Sulpice church, another 11 churches were vandalized. According to the Ministry of the Interior, a total of 1,063 anti-Christian acts were recorded in 2018 alone.
Other acts of vandalism to the churches include human feces spread on the walls of the Notre-Dame-des-Enfacts in Nimes and a damaged organ at the Saint-Denis basilica. Another 129 churches had thefts on their property with still another 59 cemeteries vandalized.
Republication MP Valerie Boyer told the Sun, “Every day, at least two churches are profaned.”
The fire at the Saint-Sulpice church, although small, was started deliberately according to police and will cost several hundred million euros to repair, Courrier International reported.
There has been a call for more investigations in the anti-Christian acts in France by legislators as the acts of vandalism have been downplayed by church officials.

“Hardly anyone writes and speaks about the increasing attacks on Christian symbols. There is an eloquent silence in both France and Germany about the scandal of the desecrations and the origin of the perpetrators…. Not a word, not even the slightest hint that could in anyway lead to the suspicion of migrants… It is not the perpetrators who are in danger of being ostracized, but those who dare to associate the desecration of Christian symbols with immigrant imports. They are accused of hatred, hate speech and racism.”

Jesus—the revolutionary, the political dissident, and the nonviolent activist—lived and died in a police state. Any reflection on Jesus’ life and death within a police state must take into account several factors: Jesus spoke out strongly against such things as empires, controlling people, state violence and power politics. Jesus challenged the political and religious belief systems of his day. And worldly powers feared Jesus, not because he challenged them for control of thrones or government but because he undercut their claims of supremacy, and he dared to speak truth to power in a time when doing so could—and often did—cost a person his life.
Unfortunately, the radical Jesus, the political dissident who took aim at injustice and oppression, has been largely forgotten today, replaced by a congenial, smiling Jesus trotted out for religious holidays but otherwise rendered mute when it comes to matters of war, power and politics.
Yet for those who truly study the life and teachings of Jesus, the resounding theme is one of outright resistance to war, materialism and empire.

    • Macron Commits To Rebuilding Notre Dame Within Five Years (Ind.)

    AND
    MSNBC just reported
Today is not a regular weekend for demonstration by the Yellow Vests.
The Yellow Vest will be marching today to continue their demands from the rich to give them a living wage.

    #46766

Macron is using the Nôtre Dame inferno to suppress the Gilets Jaunes (we all have to bond together now!), but we already knew that, right? Then again, some things are so obvious people may look right past them.

    #46767

The Yellow Vest will be marching today to continue their demands from the rich to give them a living wage.

And then you have the Arnault, Pinault and Bettencourt families, owners of Gucci, Louis Vuitton and L’Oreal, pledging $600 million for a church. Together they must be worth $100 billion easily, so that’s 0.6% of their wealth. For a building, not for destitute people, of whom the country has plenty.

France in many ways is a medieval country.
