Poor Maria Butina; naively, she thought being able to own a gun = freedom across the board.
She never understood that owning a gun in America just made you a target, aka victim.
America, house of mirrors; house of lies; house of false ideas/promises; house of illusions; and finally, the house of torture and endless pain…
…forgot the road to hell, in all its iterations…

    Ivan Shishkin The wilds 1881
That wonderful painting gobsmacked me back to my hikes in the NW coastal mountains.
The Cascades were likewise magnificient, if not a wee bit more challenging…

Shishkin is a completely insane hyper realist. I look at paintings like that and think: how long did it take to make it?

Maria Butina is going home. She’s only 30. She’ll be okay. But what way to treat a young girl. Remember that when she was alleged to have ‘infiltrated’ both the NRA and the GOP on Putin’s explicit command, she was just 23. Makes no sense whatsoever. But it sells…

Exemplary picture is an example of nature without man in it. I don’t see a lot of food there. Living very close to certain death unless you do everything exactly right. There is also less biodiversity than an interim space, e.g., a forest cleared by man.

“Justice Dept. to Launch Criminal Investigation into Its Own Russia Probe (Hill)”

I wouldn’t worry. We don’t arrest people or enforce the law anymore. We just collect evidence for blackmail and move on.

“EU Set to Put Brexit Delay on Hold after Johnson’s Ultimatum (G.)”

Already on 3 years, want to go for 33? Justice deferred is justice denied. Corbyn is against his own base, another reason he didn’t sweep into the PM, despite every star being otherwise aligned for the opportunity. That doesn’t reflect well on his party or legacy.

Despite Ultra-Low Mortgage Rates, New House Prices at Multi-Year Low (WS)”

So they’re up near 50% since only 2011? What Millennial got a 100% raise in pay to buy them? And they’re worried about an 8% drop? With average Millennial (and remember they are now in the 30s, peak earning years) income being $35k, the TOP average price should be 3x Income = $100k houses. …So the market is 3x/300% overvalued, and corrections generally overshoot. I don’t think your market rate changes of 1% are going to fix that. Instead, paper assets like these are going to cycle worthless and drop 90%, and prices of real things, commodities are going to rise 10x. –Wait! Isn’t U.S. harvest in corn and beans going to be half the norm? Sounds like the Kondratieff cycle is right on schedule.

    https://ourworldindata.org/food-prices

With food prices at relative 1,000 year lows, where do you think it can go? When Arab Spring toppled five governments with a small increase in high food prices, what do you think that means? Well, if you live in California, you won’t have to worry because they’re going to turn off your electricity anyway. Not that the other 40 states can laugh: electricity is ALL they have left, in collapsing houses and cities.

“Europe and the United States have not been ready to tolerate any major country, which would set up its own set of rules and goals.”

He misses the basic point that they wouldn’t tolerate opposition EVEN IN EUROPE, like Barcelona. Or from Russia, which is IN Europe, duh. So who are these “Western” or “European” people really, if they’re equally willing to attack “themselves” as anyone else? Sounds pretty equal opportunity pirates to me. “Why do you rob banks?” “That’s where the money is!” — Willie Sutton. Why do they rob people who actually do work and produce things? And they’re taking all that wealth back to their colonial white people in Glasgow and Gainesville, Krakow and Cleveland? Er…don’t think so.

“Johannesburg Shuts Down Computers City-Wide After Bitcoin Ransomware Attack (CCN)”

Since nothing is as perfectly trackable as Bitcoin, I generally have to think most of these are a scam, inside people making hay for their own reasons. Remember Baltimore? All their computers got ‘hacked’ and ‘erased’ right after they started investigating multiple city frauds? Or that North Korean hacker that turned out to be SONY? Yeah. If it’s written by an adult in a paper, it’s probably false. Don’t believe the hype.

Eva Bartlett from Canada has been traveling in Donetsk, and has a story here of the people who hosted her and explained their lives, being shelled in their homes for 5 years by western-backed Ukrainian neo-nazis. Children lost, schools shelled, ordinary people captured and sent to torture camps, humans rushing out to get the wounded into their cars, to get to a hospital. They want their lives back. They are not invading, just holding their homes and dying in them.
    Thanks Eleni.

Under Fire from Ukraine and Misperceived by the West, The People of the DPR Share Their Stories

Pepe Escobar has a truly informative article about the fires of strife burning in South and Central America, where neoliberalism has accellerated the rate of bleeding of native peoples, in order to further advance the wealth of colonial elite classes and foreign multinational corporations. This is presented country by country, comparing and contrasting, and providing historical context for these long-term wealth extraction processes. Bolivian election last…
Bolivia is now the most dynamic economy in Latin America, as stressed by top Argentine analyst Atilio Boron.
The campaign to discredit Morales, which is bound to become even more vicious, is part of imperial 5G war, of which, Boron writes, “the chronic poverty that the absolute majority of the population suffered for centuries”, a state that always “maintained the population under total lack of institutional protection” and the “pillaging of natural wealth and the common good”.

As for the Boeing files, there is again talk of the one sensor that failed. It seems like forever ago that I pointed out using just the one is madness – but also cheaper for Boeing-. You can’t have two either, because they may contradict each other, and then what is a pilot going to do? Flip a coin? So three is the minimum number. That one sensor, in one of these cases, failed because a bird flew into it, IIRC. Boeing has a very long way to go. And the nonsense from the media and regulators better stop. If it’s a Boeing, I’m not going…

Rare eagle sneaks into Iran and drains Siberian ornithologists’ funds by spamming costly text messages

    rareeagle

A Russian bird conservation group has discovered a sudden hole in their budget after one of the eagles they were tracking started bombarding them with hundreds of expensive text messages from Iran.

Roaming is one big headache when you travel a lot, and raptors can get burned by it just as easily as the bipeds that created mobile phones. Just ask the Russian Raptor Research and Conservation Network (RRRCN), an environmental group whose eagle tracking budget was surprisingly drained by one particularly sneaky bird of prey.

The network studies the migration routes of various birds, including the endangered steppe eagle. They do so by putting solar-powered GPS trackers on their subjects. The device records the coordinates of the birds and dumps the data via text messages through a regular mobile network when it’s available. The conservationists then check the routes against potential threats like high-voltage power lines or poison baits deployed for pest control and try to find ways to avoid them.

Several of more than a dozen eagles tracked by the RRRCN this year spent the summer in Kazakhstan in desolate places with no mobile coverage. The scientists expected them to take one of the usual routes that would bring them within reach of a cell tower, but one particular bird named Min surprised them in the most financially devastating way.

Min flew away from mobile networks all the way to Iran, and once there, texts with the coordinates recorded over the past several months were dumped. The problem is that each message sent from Iran costs a lot, and four are needed for each day of tracking.

    teri,

I saw that story pass by in several shapes, but it has huge issues. It consists of things leaked from Schiff’s secret hearings to the NYT. That already right there, Schiff and NYT especially when combined, means greatly diminished credibility. Then for some reason Intercept elects to rewrite it again, g-d knows why. Then it’s all based on the -alleged- testimony of one man, Taylor, who moreover seems to want to speak for both Sondland and Volker, each of whom have told entirely different stories. There are so many weak points that we can’t possibly know if what is alleged actually happened. Anything Schiff leaks is hugely partisan. Anything the NYT publishes is hugely partisan. Add a few layers of that on top of each other and you end up with a pretty mouldy cake. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t possibly be true, it means we can’t know from what the sources involved tell us to believe.

Maria Butina also snagged the disgraced CEO of Overstock who said the FBI made him do it. It is good that she gets to go home again. The Middle Class in the USA once were prudes. But this century, Bill Gates was Larry Summers and Jeff Epstein’s insider chum. The only well-paying jobs are servicing the 0.1%. I had a job for 37 years that I was well aware existed because industry needed government approval. Before I retired; however, it became clear that with consolidation and Barrack Obama’s “Get out of Jail Card”, corporations could ignore the law and if caught only pay fines. In the USA, there is no home to go to anymore. Either you have gig jobs or are a crook like your boss. This creates galloping cognitive dissidence. Like, ignoring that there really are conspiracies. Or, that the Elite are astonishingly incompetent addicted boors,

    PLURAL NOUN
    usually treated as singular
1The branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning. The two main areas are logical semantics, concerned with matters such as sense and reference and presupposition and implication, and lexical semantics, concerned with the analysis of word meanings and relations between them.

In my understanding of the language (English); hyper-realisic, as opposed to super-duper, do not amount to semantics; but actual definitions of meaning. And therein, markedly different in their meaning…

That’s why Americans would have to win: like the Vietnamese, we have to take back (or rather “fix”) our country. We have no where else to go. That the elites are so, so INCREDIBLY stupid now, having never faced a real challenge in their lives, only makes it that much easier.
