@Topcat – Trump’s deal with VdL is worthless specifically because she has no authority to require private businesses in Europe to buy Gas from Trump (Governments don’t buy gas, gas companies do) or to invest in the US (Governments don’t build factories in Texas or wherever, private companies do) – and yet that’s what we’re being told will be done. Has anyone asked the Boards of these companies what they think?
In fact, even if the supposition was that the various EU governments were somehow to use public funds for these purposes (it isn’t) – VdL doesn’t have the power to compel them to do that either. Aside from threats and blackmail, if the government of, say, France declined to buy expensive gas from Trump, there’s no treaty giving the EU the power to make them.
Well for one, if you are divested of your ill-gotten wealth and thrown in prison for a 10’er, all the other psychopaths in positions of authority might think twice before abusing their office and committing crimes against the people they were hired to serve.
As has been said here, punishment may not undo the wrongs done, but it will send a cautionary message to the others.

..Epstein, who almost certainly is, or was, an important MI6, CIA or Mossad asset, spent many years developing his network of high-level contacts and building up control files on some of the most powerful men in the world. The purpose of going to all that trouble is because such kompromat can be an extremely powerful weapon in the hands of those who get to wield it. By making all the files public, the weapon would be rendered useless…
The success of Trump’s mission, whatever that mission be, largely depends on his political power… In that sense, whatever files or lists they obtained from Epstein’s magnum opus, those are disproportionately valuable…
..But the particularly fascinating part of my discussion with E. M. Burligame was in his perspective on Donald Trump and his role in the system. As he put it, Trump is playing the “Sport of Kings,” which unfolds above the “Great Game.” The Great Game would be the domain of the “managerial class”: the statesmen, diplomats, military leaders, intelligence networks, media, etc. It entails fields like economics, trade, finance, politics, geostrategy and warfare.
What E. M. Burlingame called the Sport of Kings entails managing the managerial class: controlling those who run the Great Game without getting killed, overthrown, or having one’s family destroyed, compromised, or drawn into traps set by your adversaries…
..The king is especially vulnerable to those who are nearest to him and for that reason, much of what the king must do on a continuous basis amounts to very tough tests of loyalty. E. M. believes that Trump is indeed playing the Sport of Kings, but that this is lost on the public in “democratic” West as we no longer recognize the true nature of the relationship between the people and their princes. He thought that among today’s leaders only a few are adept at the Sport of Kings and named Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Viktor Orban (Hungary) and Aleksandar Vučić (Serbia)…
..Since wars are invariably waged by deception, much of what Trump does amounts to deception. One of the most powerful ways of deceiving your adversary is exactly by playing dumb. As a case in point, E.M. mentioned the case of Vincent “The Chin” Gigante, the patron of New York’s Genovese crime family from 1981 until 2005… For nearly two decades, Gigante evaded law enforcement by feigning mental illness, often wandering Greenwich Village muttering incoherently and wearing a bathrobe and slippers. This act delayed his prosecution until 1997…

President Vladimir Putin has held three telephone calls with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this year so far. What matters most now, after the third of these calls on July 28, is that Putin has omitted to put on the Kremlin record what he told Netanyahu – and what Netanyahu has just relayed to President Donald Trump that is Putin’s warning to them both.
If the latest press leaks, calculated in Iran and possibly in India too, are correct, then Putin has crossed a warfighting threshold he has refused to cross before... ..Netanyahu also omitted to record what was said in this call for more than a day, a delay that was noted by the Israeli press. He then issued a tweet saying only that “the conversation between the two leaders was on the issue of Iran.”
The brevity is telling. It has triggered speculation among Moscow sources that Putin called Netanyahu to warn that recent Iranian press leaks of the operational testing and deployment of the S-400 air defence system in Iran are correct; that Putin has ordered several hundred Russians to man and train the Iranians to operate the system; and that they have orders to fire against any Israeli or US target which comes within the 400-kilometre range.
“That would be a reply to Trump about the super-invisibility of his best-in-the-world B-2 bombers,” one Moscow source commented. “Will he risk bombing Iran again, as he’s been threatening?”
The Russian sources agree that if Putin has decided to deter fresh Israeli and American attacks on Iran, and if he has lifted his longstanding no-fire order against the Israeli Air Force in Syria, this is a major change in Russian policy on the southern front.
