Incidentally, regarding HAM radio and outer space: Amateur operators sent the first of their own repeater satellites into low earth orbit in 1961, 6 years before the Apollo landing. They have maintained their own fleet of satellites ever since.

My guess is that the girl who was arrested was carrying weapons for an adult. There was a spate of this in the past, where adults who were likely to be stopped by the police, would get kids to carry their weapons. I remember that was in Glasgow, and I know this incident was in Dundee, but there is not much difference between the poor areas of those places. Good job that she drove the harrassing guy away, and shame on the UK police for arresting her instead of him, but I can understand why she was arrested.
