Why would people who were tourists of each other’s nations one moment decide to kill each other the next?
Why would family members turn on each other? How do disagreements turn friends into enemies? Why would politics morph into war?
Why is it so easy to create “us” vs “them”?

Contrary to public reports from the west, the Russians successfully staged an organized retreat starting 8 days before the Ukrainians attacked. The sleeping Russians didn’t leave behind 60 tanks nor any civilians who wanted to leave. In fact a Russian armored vehicle bravely sacrificed itself to protect the last of the leaving civilians.

Now we know why the Ukrainians were able to move forward 32 km so rapidly. They entered a vacuum.

Clearly the Russians laid out a nice welcome mat for the attacking Ukrainians, 4,000 killed, 8.000 wounded. However, the Ukrainian attack survivors still have to figure out a way to survive in their new salient.

One of the reasons Russia decided to retreat from this area is that it contains many wooded areas making it much harder to defend with only a few soldiers. A river is much easier to defend. This area isn’t without some significance. There is a damaged reservoir (slightly south?) on the river that controls water to the Donbas region.

What is happening now is the battle in Eastern Ukraine is really almost over, all the Ukrainian troops there have been largely surrounded and cut off, you have a concentration down in the Southeast of 30 to 40,000 of them, and if they don’t surrender in next 24 hours, I suspect the Russians will ultimately annihilate them. COL. DOUG MACGREGOR 2/27/2022

Tucker Carlson’s top Russia-Ukraine war expert Douglas MacGregor, on Friday night: “This entire war may be over” soon, “right now things are going very, very badly” for the Ukrainians and they’re “desperate,” “they’re losing once again just south of Kharkiv.” 9/12/2022.

With all respect to Col. MacGregor’s military record, his assessments of this conflict have been factually incorrect almost since Day 1.

    Incredible if true.

“My government turned me into an ‘anti-vaxxer’
A government power grab created the anti-vax movement”

The anti-vax movement was well established before Covid and was well propagandised against well before Covid, the majority of normal people thinking it was full of nutters.

Desmet is trying to divert attention from the real crooks and is giving the people an excuse for why they made a stupid decision to go along with the government’s Covid propaganda. Everybody likes an excuse for why they did something stupid or something bad happened to them, an excuse that basically says “How could you have done otherwise, it was not your fault” and Desmet gives it to them, this is very basic as these people are waiting to be manipulated this way, just look at divorcees etc. People don’t like to find out they did something stupid that caused their current crisis, they don’t want to take responsibility for their own circumstances, they are weak and want an excuse.

The reality is that the majority are shepharded by the MSM, in the UK this is mostly BBC TV, and with a daily face full of auntie’s lies it is very difficult to go against them as they make you feel that you are part of their team, part of the group that is best for society. You watch TV, you succumb to their manipulation: TV is the hypnotizer.

It seems that the master propagandists on the early 20th century had it right: get the proponderance of public
opinion on your side, and you’re all set- facts be damned. That readily-verifiable facts are of seemingly so little importance in that domain has been a head-spinner, for me.

I wonder what’s going on in Ukraine. We all are Bill 7. You can spend your waking hours trying to make sense of the issue, but at the end of the day nobody has a clue to what’s going on. Here in the ‘hood’ most minds are in denial. Folks have no idea about the Ukie/Russkie conflict nor do they want to coming off the COVID 19 thingie. Personally, I’m sensing escalation down the gravity funnel, things are not too bad at the top of the funnel then down you go. We all are hoping for a display of maturity from our world wide assholians. A Phil Alvin song I like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEzJvbCVJzI

Correct. I’ve been one of those nutters for decades. Long before it became popular in the past year or so 😉

Your thoughts on Desmet are interesting and I’ll think on them: “Desmet is … giving the people an excuse for why they made a stupid decision to go along with the government’s Covid propaganda. […] People don’t like to find out they did something stupid … they don’t want to take responsibility for their own circumstances…”

Doesn’t history itself (not Desmet) show us this is the case? Considering the bell curve, majority fall somewhere in the middle, isn’t this human nature? Ask someone in authority what to do, follow the advice, blame them when it goes wrong. Not my responsibility cause “you said so.”

Having said that, our western medical system has indoctrinated most people into that mindset for decades so the leap is not that hard at this point. That some of us avoid it is an interesting question.

DBS: Great final analysis. Deserves to be read again:

“In the final analysis, we are met in a physically Holy War, but our weapons of choice, which will return the greatest victory with the minimum loss of life, are factual TRUTH, and unconditional LOVE. Never lose sight of the penultimate fact that each and every living thing in this world is the object of the “overwhelming, never ending, reckless love” of the One, God, Creator of the universe.”

The only Way through is to wield the two-sided “sword” of TRUTH and LOVE in daily living. You can master the process through clarity of intention, sharp awareness, and detachment. Cut through the pain, fear, sorrow, and hate with TRUTH, when and where possible. LISTEN. No matter the result, be respectful, offer acceptance and forgiveness – all are LOVE in action.

I am certain that this “practice” will change YOU. Just BE the “overwhelming, never ending, reckless love” in you life” and see where it takes you.

    Om Shanti,
    LOVE to All.

I, too, wonder exactly what is going on in Ukraine. I read and listen to lots of reporting and commentary–too much, probably, given that it is unlikely any of them have an overall grasp of the actual facts on the ground. A few of them might have a piece of it, and I guess I’m hoping that my brain can assemble those pieces into a coherent whole of some kind. Now the trick is telling which “pieces” are the true ones….

Confident assertions on this-and-that topic are a dime a dozen these days, only to be contradicted just a short time later; and often by the same, curiously blithe source..

Maybe creating gibberish- the antithesis of meaning- is an objective for some entities. I do not know.

Audio: my first roommate had a pair of Bose 901 loudspeakers. He was a neat guy- quite a good pianist, and
a epicurean in early training, I’d say. Those speakers worked very, very well for some music, despite being “wrong” in design. They would not be a first choice for solo voice, for sure, but they did some things better
than any speaker I’ve heard. They had an EQ box to compensate for rolloff, at either end. I’m curious about
how these relaively large single diaphragm full range drivers handle that issue. Integration of disparate drivers
always seems like a big issue to me, to the point that I’ll just get used to the rolloff rather than those discontinuities. My hearing now rolls off quickly over 6-7 kHz, and that probably helps.

    Yeah, those 901s were memorable.

@my parents said know comment #115775 re: something big in Denver and associated video…
I’m 70 miles north of Denver, not hearing any rumblings from the conspiracy types (I’m associated with a number of them, many are my customers who gravitate toward my little homestead (doomstead?) farm.
Even the video clip replays from the Denver news channels refer to the whole ‘but-out bag giveaway’ as part of ‘national preparedness month’. Not sure how they’re gonna effect the population much since Denver metro is in excess of 75 million peeps. Awful lot of bug-out bags.
I haven’t look closely into all this, but considering that in the past decade, the Colorado front range area has lost several thousand homes to wildfires (some not far west of my place, and over a thousand were in a completely developed subdivision in a Denver suburb — the entire neighborhood burned down), I can’t help but guess that this is who these efforts are targeted at.
The video strikes me as doom porn. I’ll bet nothing comes of this. Sept.24 will be here soon enough.
    We’ll know more then…

@Bill7Lots of doom-porn out there.. who benefits, and in what ways?”

In my experience, the types who produce this stuff are generally psychotic (psychopathological) on some level. IOW, their perspective and understanding are removed from reality on the ground. They live from crisis to crisis, event to event, etc., constantly spewing their twisted opinions in order to build their sense of significance, their intrinsic value, their self-esteem. “Look at me! I’m important! I know stuff you don’t know!” This is the stuff of the selfie generation: narcissism. Solipsism, even.

It doesn’t matter that the crap they were spewing six months ago has long since been proven wrong; their attention is focused only on their current obsession. Look at Alex Jones — he’s been sued and humiliated for the nonsense he has said in the past, but at the time, it made him look and feel really important (in his own eyes, and in those who followed him).

I hope this makes some sense.

Twenty One years ago I got up early and drove over to the blood-bank, before it opened around dawn. I was the third in line on September 12, 2001, and got in quickly to donate my blood.
As I left, there was a lady from a local TV station with a cameraman and a microphone, wanting me to say that “the lines were terrible, don’t give blood”. I said that I didn’t wait at all, got right in and donated my blood, and was now going off to start my work day, taking care of patients.
The night before, 9/11/01 evening, our Buddhist practice group had met. An older member led us in compassion-meditation, accepting the suffering of others into ourselves, and sending them supportive love and strength.
We remain in post-9/11-world, but I don’t think the cynical corruption can be sustained against the “multipolar world” order which excludes global fascism as too-expensive and inefficient. Since we live in the country which has been a seat of this empire, we will probably have a decade like Russia had in the 1990s. I speculate. Maybe I’m not quite right…

Here’s one thing we sort of know: you-all vaxx-happy Wokesters are about to have a new BA-5 bivalent booster laid on you. The Darwin Award season has been extended at least another six months! You’ll be glad to hear it’s been tested in a trial involving eight lab mice, and quickly approved by our FDA. The bad news is that all eight mice got Covid...
Thus, some more good news: humans were so far spared any testing for this new miracle treatment. Pfizer and Moderna didn’t hurt anyone in any cobb-job trials, like they did the first time around (hiding the results). The not-so-good news is: nobody, especially no one in the FDA, has any idea what effect the new booster will have on humans. The best news is that our beneficent government will only make the new vax available to people who are already vaxxed. You have to be “eligible,” in the club, so to speak. Aren’t you special!

Best overall assessment of Ukrainian Kharkiv–area offensive, especially explaining the land and critical topography.
..The pro-Russian side of the internet has been sent into an tailspin of panic over a new Ukrainian counteroffensive which is currently being launched in the Kharkov region, with the intention of compromising the Russian army grouping at Izyum. The panic was triggered by claims that Ukraine was advancing unopposed, encircling – or perhaps even capturing – the city of Balakliya – and on the verge of cutting off supply lines to Izyum...
My view is fairly simple: Ukraine cannot and will not reach meaningful objectives – what we call “operational depth” – and has in fact thrown much of its carefully crafted premium reserves into a dangerous position. I believe it’s highly likely that these top rate Ukrainian formations are about to be savaged – but this is still an important learning moment for Russia.

Gilbert Doctorow: U.S. ups the ante: are we indeed headed into WWIII and what can save us?
..The gathering of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein air base in Germany yesterday reshuffled the deck on Western military and financial assistance to Ukraine, raising contributions to the ongoing holy crusade against Russia from still more nations and adding new, still more advanced precision strike weapons to the mix of deliveries to Kiev. It was an open summons to the Kremlin to escalate in turn, as were the test firing the same day of a new intercontinental rocket, the Minuteman III, from Vandenberg air base in California and the unannounced visit to Kiev yesterday of not only Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was featured in Western media accounts, but also other top officials of the Biden administration. The most notorious member of this delegation was surely Blinken’s deputy, Victoria Nuland, who had stage managed the February 2014 coup that put in power in Kiev the Russia-hating regime that Zelensky now heads.
The Russians may be compelled to take the bait due to the course of military action on the ground. As now becomes clear, they have just suffered some losses in very heavy ground and artillery fighting these past few days around Kharkov. The Ukrainian gains were facilitated by the advanced weaponry recently arrived from NATO countries, by the targeting data they are receiving from the U.S. and from off-stage tactical direction from NATO officers. By ‘take the bait,’ I mean the Russians may escalate to all out war on Ukraine…
..In last night’s talk show program, host Vladimir Solovyov said that this latest push in the Ukrainian counter-offensive was timed to coincide with the gathering at the Ramstein air base, Germany of top officials from NATO and other allies under the direction of the visiting U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin…
..Ramstein marked a new stage in the war, because of the more threatening nature of the weapons systems announced for delivery, such as missiles with accuracy of 1 to 2 meters when fired from distances of 20 or 30 kilometers thanks to their GPS-guided flight, in contrast to the laser-guided missiles delivered to Ukraine up till now. In the same category, there are weapons designed to destroy the Russians’ radar systems used for directing artillery fire. Second, that Ramstein marked the further expansion of the coalition or holy crusade waging war on Russia. Third, that in effect this is no longer a proxy war but a real direct war with NATO and should be prosecuted with appropriate mustering of all resources at home and abroad…
..It is interesting that even the Opinion article by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg published on the 7th in FT carries the following grim warning: “We face a difficult six months, with the threat of energy cuts, disruptions and perhaps even civil unrest.’…
..There is no anti-war movement on the Old Continent to speak of. So popular protests over the ‘heat or eat’ dilemma being imposed from the chanceries on the people without anything resembling public debate may be the salvation of us all if they induce war mongering politicans to resign.
