A story. Yesterday my family assigned me as escort to the hospital for a family member. I think they give that to me because I aggressively protect them. They needed that yesterday. It was a heart catheterization. The ordering DR was not available so another Dr did it. The other Dr tried to get the patient to agree to a long and expensive treatment, while still on the table and under anesthesia. I was livid and I wasn’t quiet about it. We were shortly told the Dr had to leave and a nurse discharged us. Thats not quite the end. I interviewed the patient on the details to help us remember. I looked at the discharge papers and there was no record of the Dr. The interview showed that the Dr felt obliged to note that the treatment was declined. Stepping back and looking at the event and environment it appears that the Dr was a bounty hunter. So someone was offering a bounty. Hospital admin? the waiting rooms observed on the way out were mostly empty.. Pharma? Too obtuse to the circumstances. Realizing that bounty hunters are working so openly sets a new standard for protection. In hind sight this is the 3rd time I have chased off a bounty hunter. I failed on a 4th time a few years back and the outcome has not been good. Let me be clear that in all 4 cases, the ordering Dr was not involved and was consulted as soon as possible and had no issues. That 4th case was mostly silence.
