Is it just me or is the whole world awash in lies? It seems you cannot rely on any news report, statistic, or especially, any government source anymore. The whole shebang seems rotten to the core. What an environment to attempt to make sound decisions on a personal level.

As a tenet of our society, and now increasingly the rest of the world, we worship the accumulation of wealth. It doesn’t seem to matter if it is ill-gotten, just shady, or from hard work and good luck. Although hard work and good luck seem to be the hardest way to get there, if at all. As long as this love of wealth is instilled in everyone’s way of thinking there’ll be little to no debate on whether it is ethical to profit on others misery. It used to be religion’s role to bring up uncomfortable things, but that is the exception to the rule now. We now worship money-and power. Until a lot more people are suffering and the blinders come off there will be little debate.

I think your statement of, “How bad will it get?” sums it all up. How do you adequately prepare for a future that could be anywhere from somewhat worse to complete chaos? In that regard, gold and silver could be very useful-or entirely worthless, depending upon how bad society breaks down. A neighbor remarked recently about another neighbor’s solar panels: “Do you really want lights on when nobody else has any?” Good question.

In regards to Hugh Hendry, he is simply doing what he is well paid to do. Nothing more, nothing less. I would not expect him to be some benevolent advocate for anything. There are much better people to look towards for insight.

    Rapier,

My father always said the stock market crash was when the wealthy found out the Depression was already here for the rest of us. I recently read that Ford and GM bought up thousands of used cars in 1926 and scrapped them as there was a perceived glut of used cars affecting new car sales. Kinda sounds like “Cash for Clunkers”, doesn’t it. Also, the years 1924 to 1930 saw massive money and infrastructure exit from the car manufacturing arena. Perhaps a hint of what was to come?

Ah the physiocrats! Haven’t heard them mentioned for 30 years or more, it’s about time. The National Organization for Raw Materials (NORM) would
argue that stealing the labor and raw materials (artificially low prices for farm commodities) from rural America for the last hundred years leads to unending debt. The “law” of supply and demand requires many willing buyers, many willing sellers, and equal access to information. None of which exist. NORM believes that the country has been in a Depression for decades, masked only by the growth of extreme debt.
