Your suggestion fits with the broad Merriam Webster definition:

But not with the narrower Britannica and Cambridge dictionary definitions:
a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies.
The USA definition would label a family living in a house together as socialist. Also, a cooperative would be seen as socialism. I guess a partnership would be considered socialism-light. Under the UK definition socialism involves the government. The USA definition is not much use as it wanders away from ideology into paranoia; it covers most aspect of life in a society.

The sick west: My wife noticed that there was a documentary on Netflix about Madeleine McCann, the little girl who went missing in Portugal while on holiday. She asked me if I had heard of the story. The British and European media went crazy over this one girl who went missing; the same media that today produces this documentary and is ignoring the deaths of similar children in Gaza. You have to wonder how these people explain the world to themselves, how their pretend emotions work for McCann but not for darker children in foreign lands being massacred by their own government.
The west is very sick, it is showing us the depravity of modern humans; the fact that this documentary is on netflix is itself a sign of the west’s depravity, ignoring their current ongoing crimes by pretending that they cared about some similar-to-Gaza little girl 20 years ago. The completely overhyped McCann case shows that it is all about the story, even at the time all the other missing children were ignored, in the same way as the Jimmy Sville rapes of mentally handicapped children in hospitals was ignored by the likes of Starmer. Defence is a black hole where – for national security reasons – nothing gets properly audited, nothing gets the usual “value for money” constraints, and a lot of the money seems to go missing with nobody knowing where it went. With the west in decline, what better way for the super rich to steal the last few coins from government. It is corruption, pure and simple, it has nothing to do with defending anything.
AI is interesting, not because it can pretend to be thinking, but because of the challenges it presents to the elites. The whole world is ruled by consent – populations far outnumber rulers and their armies, populations could wipe rulers out with very little effort – based on individuals having too much to lose.
The “too much to lose” principle is used everywhere, it is ubiquitous whenever there is an authority trying to control minions; work, play, prison, army etc etc. For example, on death row the individuals have hope that their appeals will get them out of the death sentence; without those appeals, far more prisoners would kill themselves with the blame being put squarely on the government. Another example, work managers will very rarely make decisions unless there is something in it for themselves. Everywhere, people calculate what they have to lose and will act on those selfish instincts.
Given that AI will take away everybody’s jobs – if the tech elites have their way – the people will be impoverished, so how will they instill obedience through you having too much to lose? Manufacturing consent will not be possible if you are giving the people nothing; the people will instead eat you alive.
Consequently they know they have to provide the people with something. Obviously, being greedy cunts, the elites will provide the plebs with as little as possible – that is their track record – so I assume we will be given food and drink, electricity etc in return for manual work that AI cannot yet do. I assume that Trump is getting rid of the illegal cheap labour so that he can turn white American labour into legal cheap labour.
Along with the food and drink package will come the Palantir solution of surveillance. You will be watched and eventually, once your money has run out, you will live in a massive dormitory designed for plebs; Concentration camp style. How will they punish you? Well, I assume that they will take away your electricity, then your food, and if that does not work, you will be sent to the camp’s Gaza section.
Technology making this a better world. Until they publicise their plans, I assume that the above is what the elites plan to impose.

I do not support socialism, as that is a political ideology that should hav no place in the real world. People who support socialism tend to look to government for solutions and tend to believe that they can take freedom of choice away from others in society and that there should be a uniformity across society; that is not a good thing; in fact, that ruins people and society, so I will never defend socialism ideology.
I do support societal governance and therefore spending of money on society services, by the local and central government. You can call that the same thing, but it is not, as my support is strictly pragmatic in that government is the best entity to control some things, but its power should not extend beyond those few things.
Redistribution of wealth should not be a job for government, especially as it works now where government policy shifts money from the poor to the rich, and has done so for decades. Some corporations receive massive support from government – Musk, Thiel, MIC, Blackrock, Vanguard for example – while small businesses cannot compete with them. Enabling monopolies is corruption, if anything the government should be defending its economy against being taken over by corporations that are so powerful that the market no longer works. This used to happen but seems to no longer be in vogue.
An interesting point that Massie made, in the interview I posted above, was that without lobbyists, members of congress would not fully understand what they are voting for without lobbyists, the lobbyists explain the perspectives of two sides of an argument. His example was what material should be used to cover roads, the bitumen industry lobbyists and concrete lobbyists would provide perspectives from both sides of the argument. In reality, congress should not be making such decisions, the minutae of government spending should not be controlled from the top, that just opens the door to even more corruption and unnecessarily ties the hands of local government.
One role of central government is to audit all government spending to ensure that tax payer money is not stolen, something that obviously happens on a grand scale in the US government and its leech corporations.
When you look at the MIC, they are totally on the government teat, in fact they even start wars to give them more contracts to make stuff that will be destroyed in some worthless war overseas that benefits only those MIC companies …. MIC is run by government, it is socialism. Isn’t it your turn to get some of the cash.
What’s the panic about socialism? The USA’s biggest and most successful companies are monopolies nurtured by the government; Tesla, SpaceX, Boeing, Google, Meta, Blackcock … stop me when we get to a company that does not suckle on a government teat.
