And that’s just phase one…

Trump Says Hamas & Israel Agree To ‘First Phase’ Of Peace Deal (ZH)

Update (1920ET): Following SecState Rubio’s earlier interruption, it appears his note to President Trump was spot on. President Trump Just posted on social media that Israel and the terror group Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace deal that would put an end to the gruelling and bloody Gaza conflict after two years.,Trump announced the breakthrough in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), having earlier in the day suggested a deal was “very close” and that he would visit the Middle East later this week.,“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.

“All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said Israel would bring home all the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, after reports of a deal to end the Gaza war. “With God’s help we will bring them all home,” Netanyahu’s office said in a brief statement.

Update(1707ET): In an unusual moment, during a White House round-table on Antifa, Secretary of State Marco Rubio interrupted things to inform President Trump of something quite urgent. Whether a deal is really imminent or not, it still made for good theater, at the very least. Trump soon after this moment left the meeting, announcing “I have to go now to try to solve Middle East problems.”

https://twitter.com/EricLDaugh/status/1976029117989663005?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1976029117989663005%7Ctwgr%5E6ace113aa82c38dc250ce0434ca588e2b418493a%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.zerohedge.com%2Fgeopolitical%2Fprogress-reported-gaza-peace-talks-trump-denies-telling-israeli-pm-not-be-fcking

Not long before that interruption, he had speculated that if the Egypt-hosted negotiations achieved a deal, he would likely travel to the Middle East. He even named Gaza as a potential destination, but then said it would most likely be Egypt.”Peace for the Middle East, that’s a beautiful phrase, and we hope it’s going to come true, but it’s very close, and they’re doing very well,” Trump told reporters. Does this mean he’s getting ready for a major announcement? There have been ‘false starts’ on Gaza peace before (many times, actually)… so will this be the one to stick?

* * *

Axios last week reported that President Trump recently told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop being so “f*cking negative” and “take the win” after Hamas voiced its initial agreement to free the 48 remaining hostages (both dead and alive) as part of the US 20-point peace plan for Gaza. However, in more recent remarks Trump has denied ever saying this, or clashing with the Israeli leader on the pending agreement. “No, it’s not true. He’s been very positive on the deal,” Trump said of Netanyahu. Asked specifically whether he has any red lines for Hamas in new round of negotiations that kicked off Monday in Egypt, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he does: “If certain things aren’t met, we’re not going to do it,” he said.

Commenting on the potential for private vs. public friction further, Israeli media concludes the following: Trump at times has avoided criticizing Netanyahu in public, even as reports have mounted about his private frustration with the Israeli premier, including during a tense phone call last week in which the Axios news site reported the US president responded angrily when Netanyahu said Hamas’s ambivalent response was “nothing to celebrate.” US envoy Steve Witkoff is in Egypt joining the talks Wednesday, as is Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, and Erdogan too has sent Turkish officials, which may amount to too many cooks in the kitchen. The Turkish delegation is led by spy chief Ibrahim Kalin.

Top Hamas leader Taher al-Nunu has offered a generally positive assessment of where thing stand so far. “The mediators are making great efforts to remove any obstacles to the implementation of the ceasefire, and a spirit of optimism prevails among all parties,” he said.mThe two warring sides have exchanges lists of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners to be released in the major swap. But even if this is agreed to, the question of ending the war, and a future Gaza where Hamas is disarmed, remains a big open one.

Russia Backs Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan (RT)

The plan for peace in Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump is currently the best option to stop the bloodshed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.,The 20-point plan, released by the White House last month, calls for an immediate ceasefire and the exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israel. It also envisions turning Gaza into a deradicalized, terror-free zone after the withdrawal of Israeli forces, with Hamas excluded from governing the enclave. According to Lavrov, the proposal is not ideal since it essentially sidesteps the issue of Palestinian statehood, which remains at the heart of the conflict, and only focuses on Gaza.

We are realists. We understand that it is the best [option] that is currently on the table, he said in an excerpt from an interview published by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. The plan looks like a sensible compromise that could be accepted or at least not outright rejected by all sides, Lavrov believes. The plan is realistic if the Palestinians accept it, Lavrov stated, adding that Moscow wishes luck to the Turkish, Egyptian, Qatari, US and Israeli negotiators currently engaged in talks over the issue. Russia is ready to provide any assistance in the process that is necessary, the minister said, adding that Moscow could also help create a Palestinian state. The most important thing now is to stop the bloodshed. In that sense, Trump’s plan gives hope.

The plan has been backed by the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank. It welcomed Trump s sincere and determined efforts to achieve peace in Gaza, arguing that partnership with the US is essential for stability in the region. Israel reportedly halted the ground operation that it launched in Gaza !ity last month after the plan was released. West Jerusalem and Hamas are also preparing to exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners as part of the US-backed peace efforts, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.Ukrainian lawmakers have voted to delay all local elections and extend the powers of regional councils and officials until martial law is lifted in the country. Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly delayed presidential and parliamentary elections.

Local elections in Ukraine were scheduled to take place at the end of October. However, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced on Wednesday that the parliament had passed a resolution that officially recognizes that it is impossible to hold elections during wartime. The decision was adopted with 308 deputies voting in favor, none against and one abstention. To put it simply, there will be no local elections in October 2025, he wrote on Telegram, citing the inability to guarantee democratic standards and the safety of voters.

The resolution blames the inability to hold elections on Russia and states that local councils and mayors will remain in office until martial law is lifted. It affirms that a decision on new local elections will be made in accordance with the constitution, the electoral code, and the laws of Ukraine once the conflict ends. Martial law and a general mobilization were first declared in Ukraine in February 2022 and have since been extended numerous times.

‘Her Day Starts And Ends With Russia’ – Kallas Critics To Foreign Policy (RT)

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’ blunt communication style and fixation on Russia is damaging the bloc’s international relationships, officials and diplomats have told Foreign Policy magazine. Kallas secured her role largely through her anti-Russian rhetoric, but insiders argue that her tone has alienated partners and undermined the EU’s diplomatic standing. “We expect her to be, well, more diplomatic,” one EU-based diplomat told the outlet, in a report published on Tuesday. “She is more cop than diplomat,” another source said. “Her day starts and ends with Russia.”

According to Foreign Policy, Kallas’ “tendency to say what’s on her mind” has strained ties with major nations, including China, India, and even the US. As a result, she has often been partially sidelined in favor of figures such as NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and French President Emmanuel Macron. The magazine cited several episodes as examples of her confrontational approach. In February, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio canceled a meeting with Kallas at the last minute after she posted on X that “the free world needs a new leader,” following a heated exchange between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky at the White House.

In early September, the Chinese Foreign Ministry blasted Kallas for “irresponsible” remarks that appeared to downplay Russian and Chinese roles in the Allied victory in World War II. That same month, former Indian Foreign Minister Kanwal Sibal publicly stated Kallas was “not qualified” for her job, after she advocated for a “carrots and sticks” policy toward New Delhi.] An EU foreign policy representative defended Kallas, saying she is “direct and honest” and that “if you expect all-out flattery, you won’t get it from her.”

Moscow has long accused Brussels of promoting ideologically driven yet incompetent officials to senior posts, arguing that this approach only weakens the bloc.

The best fried potato I ever ate was a glorified super thick potato chip kind of thingy. It was roughly 5 times thicker than a conventional chip. The outer two-fifths on both sides was crispy, but the middle 1/5th was not. The center had a super-baked consistency, not quite crispy yet, which gave the whole thing a crunchy on the outside chewy on the inside character. I don’t know how tricky it was to hit that perfect stage but I would think it was one of those “timing is everything” situations.

Catholic Bishops Approve ‘Gay-Washing’ Bible Translation

These Catholics are decades behind the Jews and their Scofield translation, but I guess even the slow eventually get there. To me, this signals the breakup of the Catholic church, same as we are seeing in the Anglican church, you can’t step all over Christ’s words when your flock mostly lives in the third world and believe in the literarl meaning of the Bible.

You would think that Bible rules like “sodomy is out” would be perfectly clear, but sodomy has been in the Catholic church from the beginning, especially sodomy with underage boys. I thought that was the whole point of the Catholic church; one big boys club for perverts with extreme sexual appetites for arse hole.

The Gaza truce is fascinating, it makes no sense for the Palestinians to accept it, it makes no sense for the Palestinians to trust the people offering it, so it must be built upon something that is being hidden from us. My guess is that Trump told Hamas that if they didn’t take the deal then he would permit Israel to nuke Gaza. The Israelis have nothing left to lose reputation wise, so nuking Gaza would not hurt them. It could be something else, but it has to be something that would motivate Hamas to give up their decades-long fight. We will find out in due course, because we all know this deal is not a deal, it is an untimatum.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians made their way back to their Gaza neighborhoods on Saturday, weaving through dust-shrouded streets as bulldozers clawed through the wreckage of two years of war and a ceasefire held in its second day.

Aid groups urged Israel to reopen more crossings to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, and about 200 U.S. troops arrived in Israel to help retrieve hostages and monitor the ceasefire with Hamas.

Aid is just one issue for Palestinians returning to their destroyed homes.

“When people get there, they’re going to find rubble. They’ll find that their homes and their neighborhoods have been reduced to dust,” UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram told The Associated Press on Friday from central Gaza.

The World Food Program said Saturday it was ready to restore 145 food distribution points across the famine-stricken Gaza Strip, once Israel allows for expanded deliveries. Before Israel sealed off Gaza in March, U.N. agencies provided food at 400 distribution points.

COGAT, the Israeli military body in charge of humanitarian aid, said that more than 500 trucks had entered Gaza on Friday, although many crossings remain closed.

The aid is among the 170,000 metric tons of food aid that have been positioned in neighboring countries awaiting permission from Israel to restart deliveries.

The fighting has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, flattened entire neighborhoods and displaced around 90% of Gaza’s more than 2 million people, some multiple times.

The scale of destruction will become clearer if the truce holds in the weeks ahead, but more than three out of every four buildings have been destroyed, the U.N. said in September — a volume of debris equivalent to 25 Eiffel Towers, much of it likely toxic.

A February assessment by the European Union and World Bank estimated $49 billion in damage, including $16 billion to housing and $6.3 billion to the health sector.

The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies that couldn’t be retrieved during Israel’s offensive are found.

A manager at northern Gaza’s Shifa Hospital told the AP that 45 bodies pulled from the rubble in Gaza City had arrived over the past 24 hours. The manager, speaking on condition of anonymity for safety reasons, said the bodies had been missing for several days to two weeks.

New security arrangements on the ground

U.S. President Donald Trump’s initial 20-point plan calls for Israel to maintain an open-ended military presence inside Gaza, along its border with Israel. An international force, comprised largely of troops from Arab and Muslim countries, would be responsible for security inside Gaza, though the timeline is unclear.

The Israeli military has said it will continue to operate defensively from the roughly 50% of Gaza it still controls after pulling back to agreed-upon lines.

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff told Israeli officials on Friday that the United States would establish a center in Israel to coordinate issues concerning Gaza until there is a permanent government, according to a readout of the meeting by a person who attended it and obtained by the AP. Another official who was not authorized to speak to the media confirmed the contents of the readout.

The readout said no U.S. soldiers will be on the ground in Gaza, but there will be people who report to the U.S. and aircraft might operate over the strip for monitoring.

The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into Israel in the 2023 attack, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage.

In Israel’s ensuing offensive, more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and nearly 170,000 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which doesn’t differentiate between civilians and combatants but says around half the deaths were women and children.
