These are top, brand new APCs, hundreds, Tanks, hundreds, all run with satellite mapping, with AI predictive for Russian response, protected with NATO local AI drones and short, medium, and “Long” range missiles even ATACMs. Which are using denial-of-theatre, top jamming, air-defense shooting NATO equipment. And how many men? 1,000? 5,000? or 20,000?
That’s my surmise from looking at the map and wondering what would even make sense (plus knowing how previous offensives went, it’d have to be something different)
Real question is – what’s the loss ratio? Have they found the secret recipe that makes for a sustainable war?
If they were experiencing 10:1 casualty rates before, maybe worse, that’s clearly not sustainable. The war would end soon at this point.
It doesn’t even have to be a favorable ratio! They just have to prove they can get it down to 3:1 or 2:1. That Ukrainians are lost at an unfavorable ratio is not in and of itself objectionable. The challenge is to acquire, test, and then scaled-up implement something that expends Ukrainians at loss ratios that CAN be sustained.
And since Ukraine is expected to be part of Russia or at least solidly within the Russian sphere of influence, every lost Ukrainian or other loss to The Ukraine – infrastructure, culture, education, population, industrial base, whatever – is still a win. You’re depleting Russian strength WHILE depleting Russian strength.
But purely in a pragmatic sense, you can’t have your loss ratio cause the war to end.
That’d be like if you were an arsonist and your fire burnt itself out by burning everything within reach too quickly. Instead of burning for a long time, spreading, burning up a lot of stuff.

There’s the technical issue with Boeing – and the nation – can’t physically return the astronauts from space.
There’s also the non-specialized decision-making. Like, competency to walk without tripping oneself while chewing gum? Competency to keep breathing? Positively 4th St.
I remember reading the articles about all the problems with the Boeing spacecraft, how it was stuck delayed on the launchpad. And then the articles saying “We haven’t fixed these problems but we are launching anyway”
And those same problems are being cited as to why they cannot return!
I’m NOBODY. I’m an undegreed unemployed call center worker whose main skills are being yelled at and parsing badly written process documents. But I would have been able to drill down on all the info, canvas all my people, and formulate a decision to not launch. Or just from the news articles.
And tell anyone above me to go fuck themselves, you launch it, I quit. I’ve never had the opportunity to whore myself out and get people killed accidentally on purpose for six figures a year, but I’d like to think I wouldn’t if given the chance.

Thing about relatives getting scam-hacked (hacked because they fully cooperated with scammer instructions) You assume they got into trouble because their mind is going, only to find out it isn’t.
This relative had a PREVIOUS scam-hacking incident which I bailed her out of. I did all the security things you’d do for a normal Windows user, gave her good advice, figured it would be fine from here on out because she learned her lesson.
Was she consciously aware of my advice when the new incident was happening? YES. Was she consciously aware of the previous incident? YES. She was evasive but basically, she didn’t follow my advice because well, I’m just some guy.
So to hear about it is hurtful. Why wouldn’t you trust my advice? Why would you trust a stranger over me? Especially when my advice aligns with common sense? When you know I care about you and made a great investment in concentration, research, time, etc for you?
It’s not being slighted that hurts. It’s the more intrinsic dismay. How does a loved one distrust you in preference for claimed authority? Like… ANY claimed authority? And in a way that common sense tells them is dangerous?

I’m baffled. It makes the mind wander… IS this some wokeist thing??? – I’m a white male so Not A Real Person? In recent years, I’ve noticed both Boomer and Millennial women responding fairly regularly with a contemptuous sneer to polite, deferential, context-appropriate cautions/advice to remain safe be it street smarts, technology, whatever. I’ve tried to understand if this is due to my immutable characteristics or some underlying principle – I’m a strong independent woman, therefore these threats that would impinge on that, must leave me alone? Those hazards would simply Be Wrong and I would Be Right And Just Some Kind Of Hero if they did impinge? A strange sort of divine right? In years past, all my life, I would have laughed at such thoughts. My attitude towards the sexes was essentially a cut & paste from Star Trek Next Generation. Total blank slate equality.

I’d think people here know about virtual machines, Tor, etc.
That said, I recently had an experience helping an elderly relative with a scam-hacking incident. Just sharing – if you’ve got anyone vulnerable like that, there’s some prosumer grade things you can set them up with that won’t freak them out too much — for anyone interested:
Get a Proton email account, at least the $8.99 level. Bridge their AOL/Juno/Netzero/MSN/Lycos/Netscape/Hotmail etc email account to that.
Get an AX type Asus router (it is pre configured to work out of the box with certain VPNs)
Log the router into the Proton VPN and DNS filtering, make sure the router firewall and realtime security monitoring are on. obviously make the admin password super difficult. obviously wpa2 or wpa3 with good password or just shut off wifi.
Turn off wifi on the modem, blacklist all known remote-in assist type sites in the modem, change admin login info.
Switch their computer to Mint Linux. Set up a user profile and give them only that login info. Turn off guest login. Block remoting in. Turn on firewall (for some reason Mint firewall comes default off) Turn off boot from other medium, change BIOS password.
I’d really like to figure out how to force their user login to go straight into a virtual machine but I am not quite there yet.
Obviously this doesn’t stop the black helicopters and any machine with an AMD or Intel chip is not secure – can be remote accessed even while the machine is turned off if connected to the internet by a LAN cable.
But at least everything is sitting behind a router with a firewall, vpn, dns filtering, and anti malware monitoring. And if the scammer gets in, they’re wandering around inside Linux on a user profile, where 99.9% of scammers have no idea what to do.
If they’re going legitimately senile, you can set up their computer as a kiosk – a setup that presumes a computer in a public space with no active monitoring – immutable OS, goes back to it with each reboot, usually used to just give someone access to a browser. Whitelisting/blacklisting to limit browsing.
One can never give a relative decisively helpful instructions on how to avoid scams, because when it happens, they are speaking to the “FBI,” IRS,” “Apple,” or “Microsoft,” who are all way more trustworthy authorities than a well-meaning relative. So any setup has to block them from getting in contact and make it difficult, even with their full cooperation, to have their machine taken over.
This latest relative got the “your computer has been hacked call ‘Microsoft.'” She stayed on the phone with “Microsoft” for 2 hours! She drove to her bank while keeping them on the phone and did stuff with her bank account for them. She took a senility test with her doctor after that and got a 29/30. She has better mental acuity in her 80’s than some in their 20’s!!! She’s just from a different high-trust, high-competency universe I guess. (one that her generation confidently tore down to show how much better they were than all previous generations, knew better… I love her anyway.)
She’s going to be out the door just in time to miss the worst of scamming and screws falling out of aircraft wings and of course the blood cults and such.
Incidentally, the latest Brave browser version has DNS filtering built in now. Settings > Privacy and Security > Security > Use Secure DNS – various options like NextDNS, OpenDNS, Cloudfare, etc are available.

I was seeing reports of a 10-15km penetration. Now I’m seeing reports of 25km. I’m also seeing reports that Ukrainian forces were halted in the first couple days.
Pro NATO sources are saying there are more like 10,000 Ukrainians in the Kursk 2.0 salient as opposed to 1,000 (10 brigades plus other elements as opposed to 2 brigades), assertions Russian forces rushing to block have been hit hard by long range missiles, and Russian aircraft are getting shot down if they come close. (reports of Su25, Su34 etc being downed) Ukraine has claimed they are still advancing and pouring in reinforcements as of 8/14.
And of course on the other hand, there are reports of the Ukrainian side getting halted before any specific important objective being reached, logistics made impossible for forces inside the salient, and heavy losses being taken, particularly in vehicles. With reports of copious ambulance traffic, theoretically for a large number of mercenary (NATO) soldiers involved in the engagement.
There’s been mentions and footage of Russia using fibre optic connected drones due to copious Ukrainian EW in the salient.
I’ve seen lists of Ukrainian AA in the Kursk area having been taken out already and assertions that Ukrainian leading elements are getting pummeled due to no air cover nor AA. (but then how would they advance another 10km?) From Moon of Alabama:

Idunno. I could kind of see this as a proof of concept, a test case for the NATO commanders in the background finally getting their heads out of their asses and doing something approximating current-year combined arms warfare instead of cold war era or whatever futuristic networked managerial warfighting they envisioned. Using it in the right place at the right time with a bit more competence. Packing the salient with EW, AA, and AD in expectation of rushed blocking forces and an air power based response …that would at least make sense. Otherwise it just looks way too stupid to be real.
I think that the hypothetical Ukrainian strategy you suggested would be plausible except for the fact that the Ukrainians placed themselves in a “cauldron” situation.

Last night a column of Russian trucks and armoured vehicles advancing to meet the NATO backed Ukrainian invasion force was attacked and destroyed by NATO missiles and weapons systems, including US guided HIMARS missiles using cluster munition warheads inside Russia.
The Russians clearly never anticipated US guided Tactical missile stikes deep into Russia against its military forces and paid the price for travelling in long columns – 100’s of Russian troops killed and wounded and columns of armour destroyed in what is arguably “the” most serious attack inside Russia yet using NATO weapons and ISR.
This alone gives Russia the right to respond in the Nuclear Sphere against at least UKraine, and to respond in the Space Theatre by using Anti-Sat lasers and Anti-Sat missiles to blind NATO ISR over the battle-space.
Both Putin and Medvedev are fully qualified Lawyers.
They both know what has just happened.
They now know that both Generals and Politicians (and many pundits and activists too) will be calling for Russia to now use their Legal right to use all means necessary to protect Russia.
It is possible that NATO know this too, and as they have been slowly dismantaling Legal barriers in Russia for some time, including targeting the Russian Strategic Anti-balistic-Missile radar stations and the Russian Strategic (nuclear) airbases, without Russia invoking their Legal Rights to respond at a Strategic level, this invasion by NATO backed Ukraine, using NATO weapons, and NATO ISR, may be a deliberate attempt by NATO to provoke Russia into going “all in” in Ukraine.
At time of writing, Ukraine is still advancing into Russia. The defending Russian troops have underestimated and not understood that this is a new style of attack using Russian-Style small unit assaults backed by tactical missiles and artillary.
Currently Ukraine is destroying columns of Russian reinforcements, with such serious political ramifications in Russia that Russin media is restricting reporting, and even Russian backed Telegram channels are downplaying this.
This attack / invasion is not Tactical – it is a Strategic assault that continues to be a threat the KUrst nuclear power station, just a few miles the last skirmish.
This is a much bigger deal than most Analysts realise.
So 10-15 kilometer penetrations are possible.
If Ukraine can do it to Russia, Russia can certainly do it to Ukraine at least as well or better – more men, vehicles, air support, artillery, etc on the Russian side.
Why would The Ukraine bother? A big penetration in and of itself changes nothing. To provoke Russia? A demonstration to secure more donations? To reach the nuke plant? Are they dashing down that one road there for maximum declarable distance or is there some specific objective?
Russia allowing it would at least make sense internally, procedurally, in terms of removing Russian restraint. Idunno.

Implicit is that you are recognizing the ones reading your words as intelligent, conscious beings to whom you are submitting your honest argument for review. You WANT them to be independent, conscious, to judge and without being mentally or emotionally disregulated.

I’m reading The 6 Pillars of Self Esteem – the author makes a point about the Self Esteem fad that started in the 80’s. Everyone obsessed over the individual as volition-less, as totally acted upon. As a victim of unfair treatment leading to a kind of fate, unalterable, or perhaps alterable with decades of psychotherapy.
The author points out the acts of volition are stronger and more important – to act and live with integrity is to build up – as a consequence of justifying self esteem. And to act, with volition, without or against integrity is to, unavoidably, damage ones’ own self esteem.
The Current Thing of – I shall use the cheat codes! These fools, chained by meaningless arbitrary civility! I shall Hold Them To Their Rules while playing the game on God mode! Then we shall reach a new Year Zero and reality will be re-written in my image!
…is to horribly, horribly attack ones’ own self esteem. And so we see a plague of Cluster-B behavior in our current age. And who would want such a reality re-written in the image of such people.
The greater man-o-sphere – from Red Pill to Neo-Stoic – is bound by one common thread – seeking to re-discover and re-establish virtue, at least in oneself if it cannot be seen, found, established anywhere else. Scattered, atomized, the human response is to start picking up the pieces.
Women are the unhappiest they’ve ever been. And they’ve been and are being carpet-bombed with the taking-away of virtue – virtue bad, virtue=slavery, virtue = Low Status. No wonder they are having a very hard time under the assault.
Actual genuine self esteem is what all the unhappy individuals in our society desperately need and in turn is what our society desperately needs. Like everything, we’re beset with an oppositeworld “self esteem” that destroys self esteem, sells everything that degrades it as desirable.
Altruism – Not-YOU. For any single person. For EVERY single person. And there’s no people without persons. Year Zero. No people! Perfect!

Peterson shows some of the same flaws James Lindsay shows – of wanting to live in the NPR listening NYT reading intellectual liberal headspace – or to be people pleasing towards those people – despite what they know. Cognitive dissonance. From a lifetime of working hard to get INTO that social set, then decades of that circle being their social life?
Best working theory at the moment.
Why Peterson’s relationship with the Daily Wire? He could have done so much more good leaving them – to make a statement – when Candace Owens got pushed out. More people-pleasing with the new peer group? It’s difficult to understand what benefit he brings to anyone, including himself, by this relationship. It’s not like the Daily Wire isn’t obvious viewer-less astroturf at this point.
…but I’ll still be interested in what he has to say with his new book this November.
Oh yeah – as far as – why the somewhat outlandish dress by Peterson – some detecting it looks a bit like a comic book villain?
There’s a specific reason for that.
The comic book industry – because it is small – was fairly easily taken over by wokeists. Resulting in its collapse.
Well into that wokeist collapse, a woke captain america comic came out depicting a Red Skull that kept saying parodies of Jordan Peterson things.
Ever since, Peterson has been having a bit of fun with it. For awhile, a Red Skull bit of artwork was displaying unobtrusively in the background of his videos. Various Hydra (from james bond) like logos were created, stickers, t-shirts with Fascist advice like…

Jordan Peterson has done alright, for the most part.
He’s expertly – actually expertly, which is so rare these days – saved thousands from deaths of despair, saved millions from lives of frustration and despair.
He DID intelligently, correctly, realize something bigger was going on in the world than just a need for basic dad advice, for basic common sense genuine mental health help.
I think his mistake was, in realizing something bigger was going on, attempting to expand his activities to match it. Good on him in trying, he meant well, but it took him out of his area of expertise. I certainly don’t mind hearing what Peterson has to say about other subjects, but the ridiculous amount of flak he was taking for 12 Rules should have indicated to him he was over the target and to keep pounding away at it.
I suppose it is a fine line between “concentrate on your core competency” and “stay in your lane.” We get to watch him figure out a new area of competency as opposed to perform within the one he already has. Recommending Kavenaugh give up on being a supreme court justice based on the false accusations of a weirdo activist for instance.

How Peterson went ahead with the notavax AFTER the tremendous suffering he experienced due to taking a drug on the advice of doctors, I cannot understand. It would probably be of great benefit to society if he could articulate what happened there and what to do about it.

Judge it like a Hollywood movie. Just evaluate the narrative. Making a narrative IS an action, after all, and it is useful to look at what people do as opposed to what they say.
The Assassination Attempt narrative is… wholesome? WHOLESOME.
Around the time I was saying it is time to legitimately, truthfully, accurately shame the democrats for their past decade of behavior, the DNC occurs on the heels of the shooting and what did they DO by saying what they said there?
They presented a COHERENT and very positive, VERY simple, very wholesome narrative. They’re giving the world something very straightforward and easy to grab hold of, to frame past events, to frame future actions and goals. All of which are wholesome.
Amusingly, the Dems’ tactics in response feed into that narrative quite nicely.
I don’t have access to roofs, shell casings, gunshot triangulation etc. But I do have total access to the narrative. So hold it at arm’s length and examine as a thing to objectively observe, as a hollywood film to evaluate.
