“Age of Rage”, it is common for people to become the very thing that they despise in others, jettisoning their most cherished values to strike out at those they hate.
Since the election, Democrats have shown that very self-destructive quality of rage in adopting anti-immigrant, anti-free speech, anti-labor, and even anti-environmental positions to get at Donald Trump or his supporters.
It consumes every part of a person.
It is addictive, and it is contagious.
What these rage addicts will not admit, however, is that they like it; they need it.Many Democrats seem to have lost a capacity for shame.
They are disgusted only by the refusal of others to yield to their demands, not the use of any means to achieve political ends.

There is something that needs to be brought up here. It is not helpful to smear someone who appears to be wholly devoted to non-violent movements with violent aspirations (or, only supporting non-violence because it is more effective than violence.). It really does not help us when we paint our “enemies” as larger-than-life, and more than they really are. There is a good possibility that Chenowith truly believes that violence is not the answer. If pressed, she — and those like her — may find that her non-violent tactics are not working and then may resort to violence. IF that happens, (or if there is clear evidence of involvement in a violent plot,) she should be prosecuted, but we must not start resorting to “pre-crime.” But failure of non-violent action could also jolt her and her compatriots to reassess their radical views. Or, could cause loss of of support from liberals who are less radical.
The whole idea of non-violence working is based upon the premise that the “silent majority” is aware of their own oppression and when the non-violent protest brings this to the forefront of their minds, the majority refuses to follow the unjust system. The way to defang non-violent protest is for there to be no major injustice nor oppression in the system — the non-violent protest will then be largely ignored by the majority, or seen as an oddity of the news cycle — look at the weirdos over there.
If we accuse the actually non-violent of violence, we create injustice and give them power. Let’s not do that.
If the non-violent protestors block a street, arrest them, remove them, charge them with a misdemeanor with a minor consequence and move on. It’s even better if the involved officers are polite and kind, rather than gruff — like the police in the 50’s family TV programs.

It worked because the British empire – at a cultural level – was moral. You show all the individual people what is being done in their name and it is INTOLERABLE. You just have to make sure they are shown, because they are already decent enough for this to be effective.
If the British empire did NOT have decency at that individual level, there’d be an apathetic reaction, or perhaps “we need to send more troops, more tanks, hey don’t we have some chemical weapons stocks still left over from the world wars?”
You have to have a populace that does not want their resources used this way AND sufficient integration to affect leadership. Certainly, in no sense, was the British public being TAUGHT morality when Ghandi succeeded. He REACHED moral people in a country that was not too far gone.
The US has lost that integration. Or just barely not lost it. Trump has come along barely in time, but with the US so weak that it appears the best thing he could do is make a deal with Israel to at least not have enemies 360 degrees around him, have some safety he can put his back up against while fighting against forces that are QUITE significant enough without ALSO dealing with the AIPAC machine, Mossad, parts of the US institutions captured by Israel, etc. (I of course mean by “Trump” whatever coalition is behind him) There is no way to integrate the remaining moral sense of the common people into the government without doing the very things he is doing. NO other meaningful course-change of policy is possible anyway until this is achieved.
Give me a magic lamp and yes, I will wish for perfection. I don’t like it, but I also do not know of a better plan than this. Hopefully we up the bluster and bombastic “help” – like, really ham it up, overdo it – while somehow not quite getting into a war with Iran, not quite clearing Gaza, not quite defeating Yemen. Be that worker that you see all day rushing back and forth stacking paper authoritatively, sharpening pencils, etc and turns out to have done almost nothing all day. Massive cruise missile strike on Syria? Yessir Israel, hard at work sir.

Non-violent protest against DOGE isn’t likely to get very far — the public does not like “waste, fraud and abuse.” Likewise in support of illegal immigrants — our laws were so badly broken, the influx so great, the crimes by some of them so egregious that we cannot just turn over and tolerate it. (I get the cry of “no person is illegal,” but since the “undocumented” were issued documents, calling them “undocumented immigrants” isn’t really applicable any longer — the immigration status is, quite simply, “illegal.”)
Where the Trump Administration is most likely to cede power to people like Chenowith and their radical non-violent actions is when LEGAL immigrants are kicked out for First Ammendment (legal) activity in support of (legitimately oppressed) Palestine, or when our foolish Congress sends ever more aid and military equipment to Israel who keep using it to commit genocide. Or, bombing the Houthis over actions that affect the US indirectly. (Eh…maybe “acts of war” — which bombing is — are inadvisable when the goal is to wind down a war that one is not directly a party to. “Acts of war” by an indirect player are likely to broaden, not reduce, a conflict!)

Notice that the media sure was quick to name the folks who discussed bombing Yemen in an insecure “chat room” online, and yet are suddenly all nicey nice privacy conscious when it comes to naming names at the FBI. Spilling the beans is fair for me but not for thee, it seems.

In the 60’s, you had things that were VERY American like the Peace movement and the Integration movement. A continuation of previous US values, very predictable.
But then the Left attached modern art, modern architecture, drug culture, free love, moral relatavism, anti western civ, etc TO these very American movements and re-branded it The Movement. Meatsuited them.
Did their best to “capture the energy” of these totally reasonable, morally just issues. But with version 1.0 Frankfurt School academic marxism goals in mind – Criticize/corrode, get us to Year Zero.

I think that you are correct about the bulk of the British people in Ghandi’s time being moral.
Prior to Covid, I spent a few years in a liberal religious denomination. To my view, those who stayed the course and returned after Covid (masked and vaxxed to the hilt) are crazy and deluded. To them, I am the crazy and inconsiderate one who had the audacity to attend the first post-Covid social, held in a public park, unmasked. I was shunned by those I thought were friends. However, I would not term these people as “immoral.” Misguided, deluded, foolish — they are all of these. Immoral? No.
I still get their choir emails. I see it as a way to monitor “the crazy liberals.” I notice that, if anything, their community is more close knit than prior to Covid.
Much of the US populace is as deluded about Israel as are these liberal choir members who sign a pact to keep their Covid vaxes up to date and attend rehearsals and performances masked whenever anyone has a Covid sniffle. Morality can be mis-placed when one has inaccurate information, and we live in an age of deception. Many Trumpers’ morality is misplaced regarding Israel’s purity of intent. Liberals’ morality is misplaced when it sympathizes with Tren de Aragua members, the rights of sexual predators who take advantage of gender-bending, and the beneficence of Dr. Fauci. Both sides need to calm down and open their eyes and ears to each other. Non-violent action can be the catalyst. (It is not the only one. Historically, for example, The Jungle accomplished this in food safety. The author was a Marxist and was frustrated that his text did not create a socialist revolution. To my surprise, there was more acceptance in the media of Trump’s initiative on tariffs making sense than one might have expected.
First, so far no one has attacked the effective tariff rates that Trump’s economic advisers assigned to China, the EU, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, etc. That is of critical importance. Accordingly, we see that the injustice of the prevailing trade practices that have been accepted by a long succession of U.S. presidents is real.

Phoenix, I would’nt be too quick to give these people a pass on their Covid behaviors. As many writers have since pointed out, the Covid psyop was a mighty sifter of souls, even more so than Russiagate.
When you were shunned by those who were once close, did it not cause emotional pain? Bewilderment? Feelings of betrayal? Isolation? Don’t forget that many others lost their jobs, livelihoods, and were cast from their social groups like lepers. Was this all motivated by love? When you refused to submit to the experimental gene therapy, did your close friends gather round you as in an intervention, and lovingly try to help you see the light? No need to answer that, as nobody I know had that experience.
Why did they allow themselves to be gaslit, deluded, marshalled against their loved ones like Stalin’s “useful idiots”? Turning on their neighbors, ferreting out the unvaxxed, the unwoke, the unbelievers? On the attack, rubbing their hands in glee with each new heretic chastened? We were inches away from witch-burnings, stonings, and concentration camps. This is not morality, but something else.
Too me it smacks of moral superiority. Narcissism. Fear. Hatred. Lack of principle and personal sovereignty. A willingness to sacrifice principles, values, family, friends, and neighbors in order to be “safe” or “right”.

The funding, at least, is drying up. That’s a thing that really happened.
Think of how the US took on Serbia. Even though Serbia had older AA systems, it was impossible to rush in.

What if you prosecute someone WITHOUT the massive hundreds of billions in propaganda funding being cut off?

Things are happening. Don’t give up hope quite yet. It’s important to disbelieve this stuff, absolutely, but it’s important to believe in it just a little bit too.
