KeymasterFrom last night’s thread:
I see this as another instance of people massaging the statistics, seeing what they want to see, believing what they want to believe.
I predict a large number of people talking about “some numbers have been exaggerated”, like required beds, ventilators, while temporarily ignoring things like the numbers of cases, deaths, in China etc., that have been hidden for a long time. Maybe it all evens out in the end. But I would ask a few questions about Fauci, Birx, et al (and all their peers around the globe), and their models, upon whom politicians rely (“we follow the scientists”). Is what they do science or, as Taleb calls it, scientism?
April 6, 2020 at 12:30 pm #56722Dr. D
Participant“models “don’t tell you anything. You can’t really rely upon models.”
Says the Doctor. Every day. Denninger is following FL and TN, where numbers are 2,500% off. Every number is under 1/10th of any estimate. Huh. Never let a crisis go to waste. Even if you have to create it with a pack of lies and hysterical media.
However, you CAN kill everybody using the economy, and the now-discussed “Vaccine passports” where you have human rights based on … well who knows since their science isn’t worth a hoot.
“Ellen Andres jumped in her car and raced north on I-55 with a check for $3,469,600.”
If only they got things done every other day of the year for the past 30 years. Maybe we would have a ruined economy, bankrupted states, and empty warehouses with many multiples of 30k killed over the years, including more in Chicago each weekend than have died there from this. Nah.
“The coronavirus emergency is probably temporary. The bailout looks like forever.”
It won’t be forever. It won’t even be very long. It’s going to be reset.
“Dr. Zelenko Has Now Treated 699 Coronavirus Patients with 100% Success (TSU)”
Fauci is fighting this tooth and nail with his Gates handmaiden John Hopkins. He is determined to shut down the U.S. and be the last on earth to use HCQ even as all other nations use it and the evidence is now (in yesterday’s knockdown Cabinet fight) a foot high of science papers. #AntiScience. But naturally, as we already guessed he was #AntiLogos.
But we knew that already that because the media likes him, he would be a brother in their weird religion. I don’t actually have to watch the facts anymore, I just watch them.
Anyway, so why can this be turned off as soon as they’re done playing with free money and the National Guard?
April 6, 2020 at 12:44 pm #56723neoh
ParticipantThe ‘stats’ are useless.
A large number of people, especially healthy people, have already had the virus and recovered. The ‘tests’ do not identify this group (59%-80%) of the population.
Therefore, the mortality and death rate is complete bs.
I never thought I would see TAE and the MSM linking arms like this.To contribute to Dr.D’s anti logos. In Ohio, if you get layed off from your $15.00/hr job, you now qualify for ~$950.00/wk in unemployment benefits. Why work?? Meanwhile, employers are being offered a windfall to not layoff employees.
Sumac Carol is correct. Social distancing, dystopian messaging, fear, isolation, and trusting daddy government will kill many more than the virus.April 6, 2020 at 2:16 pm #56724zerosum
Participant” …. people massaging the statistics, seeing what they want to see, believing what they want to believe.”
Dammm!
I was sitting on the fence. Got buried in numbers.
Now, I’m lost.
There are trillions of numbers changing the past and influencing the future.

In 2018, life expectancy at age 65 for the total population was 19.5 years, an increase of 0.1 year from 2017. For males, life expectancy at age 65 increased 0.1 year from 18.0 in 2017 to 18.1 in 2018. For females, life expectancy at age 65 increased 0.1 year from 20.6 years in 2017 to 20.7 in 2018. The difference in life expectancy at age 65 between females and males was 2.6 years, unchanged from 2017.April 6, 2020 at 6:22 pm #56728Captain Nemo
ParticipantYou might find that article informative; it was published April 4 and addresses a 50 minutes interview, Bill Gates gave an March 24 on TED Connects. There is a link within the article to the video of this interview.

ParticipantModelling:
There are various kinds of modelling.
Some models strutting down a fashion walkway selling an image of beauty are surreal in their thinness.
Engineering models applying known science are limited by the real world.
But scientists modelling unknown science, now there is a model you can’t believe in!

ParticipantPast is prologue and tragedy begets comedy.
You can’t make this COVID-19 crap up.
Covidien…..a company…..makes…..wait…..ah hell just read it.“In May 2012, a larger medical device manufacturer, Covidien, had bought out Newport for $100m. Covidien produced its own line of more expensive ventilators, and did not deem the development of inexpensive portable ventilators (made by Newport as commissioned by GOV) to be a top priority. It soon scrapped the project without a single ventilator being added to the national stockpile. Government boxtops and executives at rival ventilator companies suspected that Covidien had acquired Newport to prevent it from building a cheaper product that would undermine Covidien’s profits from its existing ventilator business. The stalled efforts to create a new class of cheap, easy-to-use ventilators highlight the perils of outsourcing projects with critical public-health implications to private companies; their focus on maximizing profits is not always consistent with the government’s goal of preparing for a future crisis.”

ParticipantMy Father always said, “The only honest politician, is a broke one!”
Speaking of ALMO!
ALMO being broke, is promising the Mexican poor an “unoxthodox” coronavirus plan to help create jobs by maintaning government austerity and not spending more money and increasing government debt levels!
Wow! If he can stick to his guns, not increasing the current debt levels means higher growth rates in the future! What an unselfish socialist thing to do!
Naaaaw, it won’t happen! The rich want to rob Mexicans one more time!

ParticipantZerosum:
Getting the garden ready is real!
Now regarding numbers! Numbers mean whatever you want them to mean!
Example:. Company books. Up until about 1970 or so, my Father said the only way to tell if a company was cash flow positive, was to check and see if the company had actually contributed in full to it’s employees pension plan!
After 1970, due to legal changes over who acutally owned company pension plans, companies all got out of the pension plan business in a hurry! (I remember my Father telling me in real time!)
From that point onwards to this very day, there remains no sure way to determine if a company is actually cash flow positive!
This proves that numbers are whatever you believe they mean!

ParticipantFacts are simple and facts are straight
Facts are lazy and facts are late
Facts all come with points of view
Facts don’t do what I want them to
Facts just twist the truth around
Facts are living turned inside out
Facts are getting the best of them
Facts are nothing on the face of things
Facts don’t stain the furniture
Facts go out and slam the door
Facts are written all over your face
Facts continue to change their shape

ParticipantYou know, guys, not for nothing … but this is Raul’s blog. I find it helpful and (as I’ve mentioned), it’s the first place I visit with my morning coffee. Instead of ragging on about what you believe in the coronavirus “spamdemic” in Raul’s comment section (and thereby dissing him – how very considerate of you, that) how about ya’ll start you OWN blog, put in the work yourselves, so you can espouse your views to your hearts content?
For example, neoh: “I never thought I would see TAE and the MSM linking arms like this.”
Really? Wow. As my grandmother always said, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. wtf

I think the simplified translated version is;
they placed “One Way” signs on the entrances and “Do Not Enter” signs at the exit of each aisle!
So now you can’t get burned in a 2 way aisle! (apologizes to Gordon Lightfoot).

Participantneoh, what is the source of your claim that 59-80% of the population has already had the virus and recovered? Where did you read that? Who made that claim?
Testing in Germany is showing that more than 90% of sick people are testing negative. So if more than 90% of people with symptoms do not have it, I cannot understand how anyone can claim that 80% of healthy people have already been exposed.
The virus has virtually been stopped in Korea, with just a few new cases every day either imported or traced to other known cases. But if it was true that the virus was already widespread, that 59-80% of people have already had it and recovered, then it would be impossible to trace the new cases.
So I am really curious to know the source of your claim.

ParticipantHour long discussion from the physician at Cornell hospital in NYC who is deciding who gets sent home and who gets put on the ventilators. He is optimistic that they have figured out how this is transmitted. He is confident that he will not get sick. An optimistic take worth your time:

ParticipantUpstateNYer, I think you are coming from the right place to have Raul’s back, but disagreement here on this comments page has always seemed really healthy to me. Raul hates nothing more than an echo chamber so unless someone is persistently giving him a hard time it is great for me personally to read alt angles on this. I have come to find it extremely helpful in working out my position on things like numbers and responses. But yeah it is his blog and we should always remember to be respectful.

My apology upstate. Don’t mean to offend. But I do find it odd that this thread, which I have read daily since 2009 seems to be following the party line about this event. Not something I’m used to seeing here. Your complaint is noted. I’ll be nicer. FWIW, Raul is tough enough to defend himself.
“neoh, what is the source of your claim that 59-80% of the population has already had the virus and recovered? Where did you read that? Who made that claim?”

ParticipantI prefer SARS-CoV-2. It summons up better stuff on the googol [com]plex.
Boris looks anemic. Trump could be jaundiced, or he could be taking extra iron. /s
Wild speculation: China- ancient soul that it is- may have a better handle on mass psychology than the West. They may have declared an epidemic, knowing the West would go nuts when it reached them. That’s spy vs spy vs spy…

ParticipantSorry for late entry. The SARS-CoV-2 attack on hemoglobin in the blood, as the cause for low oxygen saturation, before lungs get pneumonia is fascinating.
I have to wonder if chloroquine/zinc acts rapidly in the red blood cells. -
