What this is telling you is that, like here, two factions of oligarchs or Deep States are wrangling for control and direction. TURKEY
I did wonder why Erdogan was so implacable about obtaining an S400 system – now I know why.
In the attempted coup the main opposition came from the airforce. At the the time the US had remotely turned off the anti-aircraft systems! Erdogan came very close to death as a fighter had his aircraft in its’ sites but the pilot did not fire.
One can appreciate why Erdogan wanted a system outside the control of the US!
Obviously the US was involved in the attempt to depose/murder him so it is understandable that their influence in Turkey has waned. Although the US may not want Turkey to occupy a chunk of Syria Erdogan is not likely to bow to US pressure.
I read that Saddam Hussein also found some key systems did not work when being attacked by the West. If you buy weapons from the West then you may find they only work against US approved enemies. Not a good selling point!

China Just Went Nuclear In The Trade War, And There Is No Turning Back Now
The US exited the INF, Intermediate range Nuclear Force agreement with Russia, because China was not bound by it and has massively expanded intermediate range missile assault capabilities.
“Our strategic competitors are China and Russia, principally, in that order,” Esper recently said.
This can be seen in the formal decision by the US to exit the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty with Russia. While on the face of it, it looks as if the US is directly taking action against Russia (and don’t get me wrong, it totally is doing that as well), the fact remains that the US wants out of this treaty because it was concerned it was limiting its ability to combat China in the Asia-Pacific theater…

This is also the current strategy of the Trump administration according to Esper himself, who openly referred to China’s missile arsenal while stating that “80 percent plus of their inventory is intermediate range systems, so that shouldn’t surprise them that we would want to have a like capability.”
