@ Mr. House
I suppose China’s leadership could suffer a massive fit of suicidal insanity, otherwise, no. They would have to destroy each other. And why? They’re at the core of the Belt Road initiative.
China and Russia have had frivolous border disputes now and then. I would guess these were to teat each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

@ teri
Same can be said of the other voting bloc and the creeps they manage to get elected.
None of us are as smart as we think, and that moron over there isn’t as dumb as he looks. I see very little political wisdom or even sanity in any president’s supporters. Obama shit in every promise-hole he could. Dubya was fantastically destructive.
I honestly don’t see why anyone expends energy deploring one group of detestables over another. At the end of the day, they all fall for toxic leeches who always Make Things Worse.
Honestly, who cares? Ph.Ds go just as apeshit when the lights go out as truck drivers. In fact, often moreso. The USSR was founded by very smart fellows with high ideals and an excruciating sense of moral supremacy.
Stupid is as stupid does, and I see stupid actions all around. Smart people very often do dumb things, and dumb people very often do smart things.

You know I’m gonna make a comeback
And like the birds and the bees in the trees
It’s a sure-fire smash
I’ll speak
To the masses throughout the media
And if you got anything to say to me
You can say it with cash
‘Cause I got the trash and you got the cash
So baby we should get along fine
So give me all your money ’cause I know you think I’m funny
Can’t you hear me laughing, can’t you see me smile
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the yo-yo
Kung Fu
That was one of my good ones
Well what’s a few broken bones
When we all know it’s good clean fun
Skateboards
I’ve almost made them respectable
You see I can’t always get through to you
So I go for your son
I had a giant rubber shark and it really made a mark
Didja looka looka look it Alla blood
Give me all your money ’cause I know you think I’m funny
Can’t you hear me laughing, can’t you see me smile
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the yo-yo
Right now
I think I’m gonna plan a new trend
Because the line on the graph’s getting low
And we can’t have that
And you think you’re immune
But I can sell you anything
Anything from a thin safety pin
To a pork pie hat
‘Cause I got the trash and you got the cash
So baby we should get along fine
Why don’t you give me all your money ’cause I know you think I’m funny
Can’t you hear me laughing, can’t you see me smile
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the yo-yo
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the hula-hoop
I’m the man
I’m the man that gave you the yo-yo
I’m the man
I’m the man

I also loved the photo of first day back at school!
Also liked the tilled field – reminds me of the cacaphony of country life. Are the colours and composition too jarring for your preference V.Arnold? It is “edgy” if that’s an appropriate descriptor.I went back and looked at the Miro again and changed my mind; I do like it.
And “edgy” fits nicely, thanks…January 9, 2021 at 1:24 am #67968Farmer McGregorParticipant@Raul et al: This may be too little too late, but thought y’all might be interested.

I decided to re-read your last comment about Trump, except I replace Trump with Obama, 4 years with 8 years, etc!
Any you know what! Your comment fits Obama just fine! Perfect actually!
Obama promised infrastructure too, but congress preferred “pork” instead! Trump got pork instead too!
Obama bailed out his rich banker friends on Wall Street, but not the little people on main Street, in 2008!
Obama rewarded his rich health care friends with Obamacare! Folks are spending more and getting less than ever on health care!
Obama rewarded his liberal education friends by providing unlimited student loans so they could greatly increase tuition costs making education even more unaffordable for poor people! (Obama may go down in the history of education for doing more than anyone else for hastening online education and the demise of school brick and mortar, after covid hit!)(Not necessarily a bad thing!)
Obama let Hillary run amuck in Europe, Middle East, and Africa! “I came, I saw, he died!” Millions of people were displaced from their homes! Just like BLM here destroys black neighborhoods here! Rinse, repeat!
Trump tried to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. Congress quickly pass legislation stopping him! The generals repeatedly disobeyed him. Obama replaced any general who displeased him. Actually nearly all of them!
Obama said the one thing he was really “good” at was droning or “killing people”. Obama dropped over 27,000 bombs on people! Trump took no such personal pleasure, wisely turning droning decisions back to local military commanders! No surprise, the generals stopped droning as many people because suddenly they were afraid to drone anybody in cased they screwed up! Also Trump met every dead serviceman and family at Doover. Obama rarely did so because he disliked doing it.
I could go on and on but what is the point?
Joe Biden is putting all of Obama’s old people back in power! You should expect to see more of Obama!
That is now our “new” normal! Many people are quite excited that this is happening!
I see history repeating and rhyming!

There are time that it is inconvenient to be a grey man, (survivor). For example, being forgotten when needing service at the emergency waiting room.January 9, 2021 at 2:16 am #67973WESParticipantDoc Robinson:

Indeed. That’s why it is important to be grounded in reality/now, as well as versatile…

Your statement about being old rings many bells!
Whomever coined the phrase “The Golden Years” should be shot! Tortured before, though!
I remember vividly taking my dying 76 year old Mother, a retired nurse, to the emergency room at the hospital, that she had worked for so many years.
The admitting nurse just ignored my Mom. The ward wasn’t busy. Finally after hours of waiting, I went up to the admitting nurse sitting their doing nothing, and said to her, “Is this how you treat a retired nurse who worked on the 7th floor (critical care) of your hospital?”
Begrudgingly she got up off her ass.
Being old sucks! Naturally, I shed a few tears writing about this memory.
It probably sucks even more, if you don’t have younger stronger people to plead your case.
We also know why hospital and nursing home administrators and staff, hate any strong advocates for the elderly therewithin.

With no precedence in my lifetime; I have no measure of action or solution to this predicament…January 9, 2021 at 4:47 am #67977sumac.carolParticipantMy mother celebrated her 90th birthday on Tuesday, tested covid positive on Wednesday and today (Friday) is in palliative care (family instructed to say goodbye tonight). Covid whipped thru her retirement home, after having been clean a month ago. Mercifully quick. So hard on the workers. I read tonight that a non-trivial number of personal support workers (who bathe, feed, clothe the frail) live in homeless shelters because they cannot afford rent here. These people then being covid into the shelters. Just one more injustice to the vulnerable populations.

Peace. May your good memories dominate your life.January 9, 2021 at 11:40 am #67990teriParticipant@ Madamski,
You objected to my calling the Trump supporters dumb, so I explained why I thought they were dumb. I did not claim that Trump fans are dumber than Obama (or Bush or Clinton, etc., ad nauseum) fans, just that Trump fans are dumb to support him after four years of proof that he isn’t working for their best interests. Now you correctly point out that blind support for any of these lying politicians is a mistaken effort. I think so, too. So we agree. However, I think you kind of moved the goal post a little bit there. I could have, in my original post, added that Trump supporters who still support him today are as dumb as people who supported Obama’s second election, but I was not talking about Obama. My topic was Trump.
For what it’s worth, I did not vote for Obama either time he ran, nor did I vote for either of his Republican opponents. I did not vote for Trump (blindingly ignorant bullshitter) nor for the war-pig Clinton (shudder) in 2016. I did alter my registration from Independent to Democrat so I could vote for Sanders in the primaries, and then changed my registration back to Independent for the general, in both 2016 and in 2020. Independents don’t get to vote in the primaries in my state. We’ve only had really bad candidates to choose from in the general elections for many years now, in any case. I think Sanders is sincere, but the dude is totally sideswiped by the Democrat machine all the time because the Democrats are no more inclined to his gentle socialism than the Republicans are.

@ Wes,Sigh. I wasn’t talking about Obama. I was talking about Trump. We can do the whole “what about” comparison thing all the way back to George Washington if you want. But I don’t want to. Your response implies that you assume that if I don’t like Trump, I must have liked Obama. So you proceed to list his failings for me. But I never liked Obama, did not vote for him either time, and am well aware of his bullshit and broken promises to the people. I’m not sure why people have been doing this for the past four years, but every time someone says they object to Trump, immediately someone else will bring up Obama as though he were some valid excuse for everything Trump does. Oddly, when Obama was in office, nobody allowed others to make excuses for Obama’s bad decisions by blaming his predecessor, Bush.
My feeling is that each president has to answer for his own personal failures and should be held responsible for them. Obama was a bad president. So is Trump. One is not responsible for the other, however, and their individual morality and policy decisions, and the ramifications of these on the citizenry, are faults of nobody but themselves. The rhetorical device of saying “but Obama did” when I say “Trump” is straw-manning.
And aside from that, if I had wanted to talk about Obama’s performance in office, I could have provided a way more damning list than you did. (Some of your statements are not accurate, actually, but since I would have had much more vitriol to aim at Obama myself – had he been the subject I was commenting on – I won’t quibble over the minor details.)

@ sumac.carol,I am so sorry to hear of this loss in your family. Blessings on all your mother’s children.
January 9, 2021 at 3:13 pm #68001NoiretteParticipantTalk of China invading Russia (> Mr. House, WES, madamski..): adding my two cents, that would be imprudent to say the least on the part of the Chinese. Folly! (As madamski points out the minor border disputes are quickly settled.)
The Russia-China alliance (such as it is, i.e. not set in stone) is very much a matter of we are facing the same enemy – ll et’s see how the collaboration, cooperation, goes. The relationship is enhanced as Vladimir and Xi are quite like-minded, if from very different cultural backgrounds. They are both history and political philosophy buffs, are generally even-tempered and manage to keep an air of ‘above the fray’ and are (ostensibly) ‘for the people’ of their country.
However internal socio-political management is very different in the two countries, as are their foreign policies / exchanges with the ROW (rest of the world) / long-term goals (though these are moot for all.)
