Caitlin Johnstone is a gem. I was thinking next Memorial Day make every American listen to With God On Our Side.

    Great idea.
I’m sick to death with the hero bullshit in the U.S..
But, I guess it does speak to the bankrupt society bereft of genuine heros; actually that’s not quite true.
Edward Snowden, John Kiriakou, Chelsea Manning, and Ray McGovern, to name a few, rank as heros in my book. .
U.S. society is indeed bankrupt; and has also changed the definition of what it is to be a hero in a very manipulative way. “They” have cheapened it to worthless and without genuine meaning.
The U.S. is now full of heros…
    Edward Bernays would love it…

The biggest irony of course is America labels all these people heroes but treats the survivors as second class citizens. It”s a pitch dark culture.

“Central bankers do not, with very few exceptions, understand they are the cause.”

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.” – Upton Sinclair

Or more precisely, power people know they exaggerate and worsen the business cycle, but they do it on command — that’s why they installed this useless level of harm, to CONTROL the hour in which the cycle starts and stops. As insiders, they then have access to inside information and influence for free money, then when to sell as they demand that money is shut off by claiming the economy is “too hot”, then forcing the economy into collapse and “austerity” they avoided by selling at the top, because they MADE the top. And the collapse. Then they need to “boost the economy” by having the Fed loan them unlimited free money at the bottom — but only them, not the dirty people.

Do the bankers know this? Who cares? The real power people put the bankers, the Fed heads in place to execute it, they could care less whether like Bernanke and Yellen, they are are scholastic idiots, IYI Olympians, or whether like Paulson they are complicit, self-serving villains. It’s perhaps better if they’re ignorant and earnest, and we just remove them viciously if they catch on or attempt something helpful like Varoufakis. It doesn’t matter to them, or to us, WHY we are destroyed by theft and manipulation, only that we are, they know it, it’s proven, and we stop it. …Which we still don’t, of course.

We don’t need any new laws to solve problems with plastics — and since this has gone on with unheeded warnings for 50 years, why does it come up now? Someone not pay their extortion money? We already know you can’t make poisons and leave them lying around. I can’t make up strychnine and leave in under the mailbox for the dogs to eat. But Dow Chemical can because they’re a corporation. Maybe as has been proposed, since corporations are people, you should imprison them by having the government take over the board of directors and run the company for 5-10 years while they’re “in jail.” Should there BE any company left after 6 months of the government “taking care” of it, they’re welcome to have it back, because those are the responsibilities and consequences for “people” who poison and litter. Right? What’s wrong with this simple argument? Only that we don’t enforce the law, and laws only apply to little people?

Banning? That’s asking the SAME government who DOESN’T enforce any existing laws to selectively enforce a new law, and centrally-direct the economy as well. Whole new fields of payoffs, “exceptions”, selective enforcement, etc, on the same people we already know are corrupt, allowed Cod to collapse, permit China the strip-mine other nation’s waters, and so on. Why? It’s illegal to poison things and people. It always has been. Sue them under civil and criminal law.

While true and long overdue, I smell a rat on the sudden interest in plastics they couldn’t dump enough of just last year.

    It is indeed…

Anyway, Macron, Merkel and Trudeau all looked very weak. It was Trump’s show again. It doesn’t even matter what it’s about, He steals the limelight and they have no answer to it. It’s an energy thing.

No response has been defined, same as the Democrats in the US. There’s nothing there. Just the notion that he should be doing what they always have, or would if they were in his position. But that’s the very thing he won’t do.

Isn’t it because they’re cowards? Afraid of the hegemon?
They know they’re weak; and have been dependent for decades; on the U.S.?
They’ve done nothing to empower themselves and are now relegated to mere vassels. Impotent.
    Pathetic really…
If the EU can grow a pair; they may have a chance; but only if they regain their sovereignty.
It’s all about sovereignty. And the U.S. is all about destroying/eliminating sovereignty…
The EU will get it or they won’t…

Canada has oil which can be left in the ground.
Canada has iron which can be lefl in the ground.
Canada has allumium which can be lef in the ground.
Canada has trees for lumber which can be left to grow bigger.

Canada can buy enough oranges, from someone else, to feed the elites.
Canada can live without the latest military aircraft.

Canadians have gone on vacations to countries that live with less and survived.

Canadians can survive austerity and tighten their belt.

    “It’s a pitch dark culture.”

It’s a culture made by and composed of human beings. Therein lies the rub. As a favorite professor used to occasionally say, “Individual people are capable of wondrous good or unspeakable evil.” We must align our individual free wills collectively to proactively make a “nice” day. Utopian thinking. Human societies cycle between marginally fair and savage despotism, and will continue to do so unless they commit suicide or evolve into different beings.

Seychelles, whenever I try to come up with solutions to problems, and people ask me this a lot, I often fear that’s the best I can come up with. And I see no reason to presume we have the ability to evolve into different beings. Mind you, there is a huge gap between individual and group -societal- behavior.

Ilargi…I am optimistic enough to think that it could happen, after all one of the great constants of life is continuous change. But I don’t think we have enough time to do so, the old rate of change bugaboo limit rearing its head.

“United States starts unjust wars constantly and spends soldiers’ lives like pennies”
I didn’t go to my nephew’s wedding yesterday because he is in the army. He got married in uniform, I knew if I was there I would just be seething that all in uniforms are war criminals, as everything the US military is involved in is criminal.
Perhaps Trump is the best for the world, no diplomacy, just a kick in the teeth. The whole world is trying to figure out how to marginalize the US.

“The US special operations soldier who was killed in Somalia (one of the “seven countries in five years” famously named in General Wesley Clark’s revelation of the US war machine’s plans for world domination) and the four others who were injured are not heroes.”

Here is some antidote to the Hollywood and MSM crap:

    “Canada has …”

    zerosum,

I was talking to a couple of charming Canadian sisters last night – both from near Waterloo, Ontario. One is at university and the other working as a teacher for disabled children. They told me that a lot of “rich Indians” had “bought” a lot of houses in their area and had pushed up property prices to an extreme level. Neither of them believe that they will ever be able to own a house of their own – like their parents.

I pointed out that the “Indians” were borrowing money to an extreme level and that should house prices drop or interest rates rise, they will just go back to India and leave the banks to sort out their mess. They did that in Dubai a few years ago. It is so easy for Indians to get fake ID’s, qualifications and passports that they can play this game a multiple of times. I suspect that if Inidan “doctors” in the West were given proper exams, a great many would fail. The worst of the lost are the very highly sought-after and paid psychiatrists. They are on a specialist grade and don’t have to do any medical procedures. One could learn to pretend to be a “psychiatrist” after a few weeks of training. Easy.

I would argue that Islam potentially holds the key to the salvation of the world. This philosophy strengthens its followers, as we see from Caitlin Johnstone. The West, particularly Trump, America and Israel, has no philosophy to strengthen it. Just materialistic greed, which cannot sustain anyone over the longhaul.

With increasing numbers of Muslims in Europe, they will eventually gain power. Look how weak the European leaders were against Trump at the G7 meeting.

Imagine he was confronting a bunch of Islamic Mullahs, like the Iranians. They’d make intellectual toast out of him and tell him to piss off.

Islam is closest to the original Vedic philosophy, but it has not atrophied as that has.

And the recent referendum in Switzerland to dismantle the private banking system and replace it with state issued money (got 26% of the vote. not bad for a first run), would all be accomplished under Islamic government, since usury is forbidden in Islam.

Interesting the Iranians are talking with the Russians and the Chinese. They are all very pragmatic, plus they are all from ancient societies that have a wisdom tradition. And they may have the resources and weapons to challenge the US and Israel. Europe should ditch the Atlantic Alliance and join with Russia, China and Iran.

Russia, China, and Iran are key players in the Heartland theory of Mackinder, Spykman, and Mahan.
