Had Obama, the top supporter of Ukrainian Nazis, announced any desire to attend the 70th anniversary parade in Moscow, Putin would have been justified refusing him. Not only did Obama avoid that potential embarrassment, he also helped preserve the shocking ignorance of dumbed-down Americans on the subject of WWII. Shameful, but politically deft. (Or daft if you’re educated or Russian.)
Be warned, Helena Smith, a longtime Athens resident who reports for the Guardian about the Greek crisis is an anti-SYRIZA journalist from PASOK. Her posts are ‘soft’ anti-SYRIZA reporting and always distort the news. Am not sure the Guardian has caught on to this, but since the Guardian has gone so radically downhill since the Snowden affair, it hardly matters. All the Guardian has left is an outdated reputation, and 2-3 decent journalists. Of which Helena Smith is NOT one.
Indeed Diogenes. For all the movies made about the western alliance, in hard war-fighting terms it was the Russians who won the war. Apart from taking appalling casualties, their military killed about 3 million Germans against the entire rest of the world’s 300,000.
While body counts are not everything, in wars such as WW2 they did matter and the Russians did the heavy lifting. We are not taught that, we should be, which is why we are not.
