Just because the Russians are pulling punches to avoid killing civilians and destroying infrastructure key for civilian survival does not mean they are ignoring the threat. For example, Andrei [Maryanov] notes that the Russians waited for the towed howitzers to get into position before blowing them up.
I really am shocked that Scott got this so wrong. First, the US and NATO are not sending the most advanced, most sophisticated equipment to Ukraine. The M-777 howitzer, for example, is a good piece of towed artillery (it came into service in 2005). There is the problem–it requires a vehicle to tow it into position. When it is fired it must be towed to a new location to minimize the risk of counter battery fire. America and NATO have more advanced howitzers that are self-propelled. They are not sending those to Ukraine.
Second, Russia has made and continues to make missile strikes on bases and weapons depots. It is not an occasional strike, it is repeated and regular. Remember Yavoriv?

This was not a one off attack. The Russians have struck all across Ukraine. I noted in my last piece that Desna, a Ukrainian base, was one of the latest targets. The Russians also hit Lviv, Vinnitsa and Sumy. There is no sign the Russians are running out of missiles, rockets and artillery rounds.
Third, who the hell is going to operate the stuff the west is sending? We are not seeing hordes of Ukrainian young men lining up to join the national defense. Instead, Ukrainian authorities are rounding up middle aged guys forcing them into the army. Many of these “new” recruits are on video complaining that they are nothing more than cattle fodder. Then there is the training component. Teaching a soldier how to operate and maintain a new weapon system is not a one day affair. This further complicates Ukraine’s ability to stay in the fight.

Yes, the abortion clip is interesting. Not to bring up Tim Pool regularly, but he talks all the time, and has all the guests he can fit, every day; he’s recently come to the conclusion that the Left simply doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They’re based on emotional sloganeering and tribalism, so if you ask them any specific moral, legal, philosophical, scientific, or practical question, they just don’t know. And they’re not stupid or anything, the downside is they’re smart: like this woman, they’ve just never thought of it, never asked, never been challenged. The Right certainly can be knuckleheads but they have thought of these things through one level at least and although they come to conflicting conclusions (read: “not a cult”) they are willing to debate, resolve, extend, and even alter their thinking. I have said this for years now which is no genius as it becomes more and more obvious each day.
There are people susceptible to emotional capture and sloganeering, and people who aren’t. They aren’t always the ones you expect and it does not have a lot to do with intelligence: if anything, the reverse. If you are susceptible, you are in the same field as battered wives and children of alcoholics, and advertising uses the same narcissistic gaslighting processes on you because it works. They sell toothpaste, and they sell a house you’ll lose along with your life when you live in a box by the river, and a $60,000 car, and 100% high-fructose corn syrup food group sure to kill you, and have you kill your kids as well; all the same thing.
But all that leaves what to DO about it. The frustrating thing from this end is that you, their countrymen, their neighbor, their family or spouse, are exactly ZERO to them. You have literally no meaning, no existence, no merit. Whatever you say is worthless, wrong, if Disney or plagiarizing philanderers like Snopes, or serial murderers and failures like George Bush and Madeline Albright say the opposite. If you say there is a housing collapse, subprime is not contained, they will take a $23 trillion or whatever it takes of tax money to bail out the billionaires and the banks, you’re the world’s biggest jerk, an idiot, and a conspiracy theorist.
When it happens 6 weeks later, no credit is given and they kiss George Bush on the lips, unzip his pants, and give him a packing-box of money, their kid’s college fund. Right now that same thing is done for Joe, and since he spoke, the opposite has occurred in just a few hours for Elon Musk: the S&P just removed the Eco-Hero’s largest, most important Electric Car company from the ESG listing. Yes, thinks to Twitter, Tesla is no longer green and does not make electric cars. This will arouse no comment or mental dissonance whatsoever for the captured, while it drives the rest of us crazy.
So what to do? From a certain perspective, they are unreachable. Literally. They will/are throwing their kids on red-hot hands of the sacrifice god and no one can stop them. Yet so long as they remain +20% of the population, any attempt will grind up an open civil war. Stopping them may save them or other kids, but starting a civil war will kill orders of magnitude more. And don’t think the advertising engineers don’t know it. They are up to trying a civil (race) war again this week. Example? Buffalo had 10-12 dead? Chicago has +60 dead black citizens per week. No one cares and never have for lifetimes. President never visits, it is clearly a thing they very much like and promote. Surely both sides are equally bad? To some extent but remember Cheeto said he’d offer the National Guard or anything Chicago or other cities wanted, as that was not acceptable. Strange behavior for a racist to call out Patton’s Third Army to save the lives of black people from Blue Mayors nationwide.
Back to the quote, and as I’ve seen here too: no one knows anything about law, history, no one has walked through philosophy, or defending their moral position. It’s a nation of 12-year-olds. Whatever is popular is true. We don’t ask questions. We don’t listen. We just get the Dora the Explora’ backpack because that’s what was on TV and that’s what “we” do. Anyone who doesn’t is the sworn enemy, TV-movie-style. Because they’re the baddie bads! They’re Swiper, or Cobra Commander, or Stinky Pete. Pew-Pew! We shoot ‘em up, fall down, play dead. Like adult 12-year-olds they will LITERALLY shoot you with real guns, LITERALLY burn your house down and think nothing of it, and have. Hello Supreme Court Justices?
What is Russia, with enough nukes to level the planet, supposed to do in a Sci-fi world where all the adults were gassed(lighted) and reverted to petulant, ignorant,12-year-olds, like a Star Trek episode? I mean ARE you supposed to nuke them for the safety of the planet, or what?
Now that abortion has come up regularly, the best argument I’ve heard is one of tenant rights. Everyone can understand this. If we have an adult who takes serious, known action to invite in an alien resident, a person, and another adult to take known action to pay 20-years rent for that tenant, then tomorrow you can’t just kick them back out. You can’t because kicking them out at that point is certain, absolute death for them. If you took in a tenant and they annoyed you, so you killed them, that would be murder, along with any boyfriends or people who aided the murder. And the decision, the contract, does not start then, but the previous weekend when you drunkenly promised. That was your choice, back then, you made that choice with your body, the two of you.
What to do then becomes difficult, because you can’t deport them back, but also the man cannot realistically take them on alone, having no house of his own to offer. At the very least we might agree that the tenant can be evicted only as soon as the eviction won’t kill them, if we collectively can come up with a solution to move them to a new home and landlord that wants them. Since the list of landlords wanting young tenants is 10 miles long, that shouldn’t be a problem. Only the early part.
Does that make sense? Tenant Rights. You actively took vigorous action to invite them in. What now?
And this gentleman’s quote, so we’re also evicting nearly 70% black tenants, when they are ~20% of the population. Is that equity, and right? I’m not trying to make anyone lose their minds, but open to explanations. Not to slogans.

Bringing me to this: the West is not going to surrender. The war is not over, if you haven’t noticed. I mean, it is, but it isn’t. We, the West, will fight and cry and wrangle until they can find a position where Russia has to nuke “us”, London, Langley, NY, they will not stop until they ARE stopped. And we can stop them, but that doesn’t look too good as the few people who even know what’s going on are hypnotized by Q, passive, sidelined, and terrified of being called queer-haters while every life of every American and every child is at stake. And I can’t move that dial on my own. The people I am trying to save which includes every straight, gay, black, white, immigrant person will set upon, beat and arrest me if I jump into the water with a bouy.
So as the first paragraph: What do you do? How are you supposed to save them from themselves? Isn’t that violence, even as their violence and poor understanding kills the other 80%?

Her lack of preparation and/or ineptitude does not change the facts of the siuation.I am re-watching Star Trek (TOS) right now. James Kirk, starship captain, bears responsibility for the crew and well-being of his ship. He is tasked with general directives and specific orders. He must make decisions that affect the lives of his crew. Sometimes, his decisions lead to the deaths of crew members. This bothers him…but discharging his duty, and that leading to a crewmember death, is not considered “murder.” James Kirk took on this position willingly, knowingly. He often risks his own life for those who serve under him — but at other times he risks the life of others, as he knows that for the well-being of all he must not wantonly risk his own life.
A woman is the “captain” of her body. Her “crewmember” is a fetus. She may or may not have actively chosen this “command” — it have been a mixture of free-will and coercion. Unlike crewmembers of a ship, a fetus has no ability to care for itself, or even to exist without her during gestation. A fetus cannot judge a situation and determine whether or not to follow commands. A fetus cannot leave at will, cannot survive on its own. The woman, as captain, knows the outside world, how to navigate, whether it is safe, and risks her own life to carry the fetus and go through childbirth.
Yet, many peoplewould like to tell a pregnant woman that once she is pregnant, she is no longer the captain of her ship. She might make the “wrong” decision. They think that they, by default, know better than she what course should be steered. They feel that she is no longer capable of autonomy with a fetus on board.
Trust women. Support mothers and their children. Don’t remove women’s autonomy simply because others think they know better than she does. This lack of trust in women is about control, masquerading as caring for the weak and helpless.

Your argument demonstrates the main issue: pro-choice women think it is all about them and that they should be able to change their minds regarding their child, especially in the case where they had a few too many drinks the night before and did not behave as an adult … or any other excuse that they feel excuses them of the responsibility of their earlier decision.
Others feel that the person inside the woman should be defended as any other human, that it is not all about the indecisive woman. After all, this is obviously not a next-day decision as the morning after pill is very effective, so this is a missed period / pregnancy test decision.
Of course, this just enforces the widely held opinion that women should not be “put in charge” of anything that requires strong single minded leadership, not because of a lack of intelligence but because of emotional influences over their single mindedness. Alternatively, they were too lazy to do something about it the morning after?
There is the old golden excuse that some women never consider what “might happen” before they have unprotected sex, but I just do not buy that: they make an informed decision which they later regret. It is all about them, fuck the small human they decided to create, that will now be dumped in the trash. Sure, it is a difficult decision for a minority, but certainly not for all when you see the numbers: it is a very popular option.
A thought went through my head this morning: When will the people of Zimbabwe, who use the US dollar as currency, get that sense of deja vu about the USD currency and then move on to the next currency? What will that replacement currency be?

aspnaz … You seem to forget that in many cases a woman did not “make an informed decision which they later regret”. There is such a thing as rape, and it is quite common.

The ruling Western ideology is that only money matters. Everyone is own their own but rich individuals benefit unequally at the expense of the worthless. The last US CEO jailed was Jeff Skilling, Enron, who embarrassed the Bush II Administration by turning off the lights in California for a profit.
The proxy World War III in Ukraine is being fought by others to benefit outsiders and oligarchs. There no longer is public education, public health, or public safety in the West. It is only propaganda – information warfare that says there is any community left. No one mentions that Russia Federation Army has been unable to break through the Ukraine trench defenses. The Red Army could have. The question is can Russia breakout of the Black Sea Lowlands and take Odessa and deny a rump Ukraine access to the sea?
The next months will see if peace returns to Europe. It requires a peace treaty/armistice, now, and Russia withdrawal to east of the Dnieper River behind the Line of Contact and a manned DMZ. If the Biden Administration continues to nix the talks and if the Russian Armored Army does finally breakout; only tactical nuclear weapons can stop the invasion of Poland which almost guarantees the use of both side’s strategic nuclear weapons.
