Yes, stocks have been overpriced since 1994 when Clinton ‘sold’ the gold. (To break the Treasury market, see Larry Summers Thesis paper about “Lying”) So that isn’t the question. The question is who you BLAME when the price re-sets. Since the U.S. is definitively the best economy in the world – suck though it is – that means we go down LAST. Sorry. We endured the s—t cycle and now we’re on the UP. Where would you go otherwise? France? Germany? England? Spain? China? There’s no one. That leaves us as the best remaining right now.
I know that sucks, but the winner isn’t who is fastest: there can be 10 cripples in a foot race, and four retards, yet the winner is still whoever is FASTEST. Not in theory, not compared to history, not compared to other players in other places, but right there and then. We’re easily the best right now. So we go down last. And France, England, Germany, etc will take the blame. Then we’ll point and say “See! And we would have gotten away with it too, if not for the nosy Global Financial Collapse!”
Myself, living here, watching and interacting with the U.S. Economy every day, and also talking to everyone else from every other class and stripe, means of course that because I live this all day for 30 years, I know nothing. Because I’m not an “expert.” I pay these bills all day, watch real jobs and businesses, but that only makes me stupid. To be really smart, you have to have an office at Harvard, talk to no one, have your chauffeur fill the tank, read polls and statistics that haven’t been right in 30 years, THEN you’ll accurately know what’s going on.
That is, if you want a sculpture done, OBVIOUSLY you hire an Art Critic and not a Craftsman who’s been swinging a hammer for 40 years. So say Nawfal and Lin. You get the best results from Art Critics, and all the best sculptures are well-known to be created by them. Krugman Agrees! He was totally right about the whole Internet being a fad that would never surpass the fax machine!
