ParticipantFrom zerosum late yesterday (and a similar comment to start off with today):
“Like everyone, I assume that your mind is made up.”
I’m not sure where this is coming from, but it smacks of frustration. Truth be told I’ve always found your posts a bit cryptic, hard to follow and unpack. That’s ok, as I’m sure there are those who find my posts the same. Each of us has our own command of language (or lack thereof), field of expertise, and life experience to draw from when we post. That is the beauty and value of this forum. You never know when someone is going to cough up a piece of the puzzle that snaps right into place.
To answer your question, though, I have learned over the years NOT to “make up my mind.” To paraphrase another seeker: When you get to the top of the mountain and look out across the valley, there is always a taller mountain to climb off in the distance. IOW, there is no “arriving”, only the journey of endless discovery and refinement. When we cast our eyes out from the mountain of Algebra, we see the mountain of Calculus looming off in the distance.
When you are on the right trail, however, I’ve found that each new mountain builds upon the last, with markers along the way to give you consolation and the occasional stone stela of personal experience that acts as an anchor against the winds of doubt or despair. You can also spend your days frolicking in the valleys, as many choose to do. Everyone enjoys a good frolic, but sooner or later it loses its appeal our soul spurs us onward.

ParticipantIt’s not the UK, despite the face of King Charles appearing on all of Australia’s new coins. This week, in its 2026 National Defence Strategy, the Australian Government has announced that the US is their “closest ally” and “principal strategic partner.”
The United States is our closest ally and principal strategic partner.
Intense competition between major powers – principally the United States and China –
will be an enduring feature of our strategic environment.

Participant“Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI.
AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.” – Elon Musk
I agree with D and the others, that this is the stupidest thing I’ve heard from Elon Musk since his Mars colony idea. Who would’ve thought that Ted Kaczynski (aka Unibomber) was more grounded in reality than Musk. Musk could benefit from reading the guy’s manifesto: Industrial Society and Its Future. At least Ted Kaczynski killed a few people consciously because he thought it was necessary to save humanity itself from a terrible fate, whereas Musk seems willing to plow ahead blindly creating his technological robotic AI utopia, unconsciously risking the lives of millions or even billions.
People need purpose and meaning in order to thrive. This doesn’t mean getting a monthly check from the government because they are no longer of any use. That’s quite a hit to the ol’ self-esteem. The Native Americans find this lifestyle so wonderful that their young men celebrate continually with alcohol, drugs, and suicide. Nope, not a great idea.
And somehow magically with AI & robotics humanity will suddenly enter a new golden age of enlightenment wherein every man looks after his neighbor as himself. Where greed is banished and love abounds. The money supply will be free to slosh back and forth from coast to coast unhindered. One just needs to grab a handful of $20’s here and there as needed so that your neighbor is not deprived.
Honest injun, cross my heart, there is NO way that the excess productivity ($) from this new technology is going to be redirected and damned up into enormous reservoirs of wealth for the few, so that only a tiny trickle remains to sustain the life of the poor slobs downstream. Nope, not going to happen. Promise.
Get a grip, Elon!

Participant[scene] air ambulance fly-by – tdk
i did an air ambulance life flight in September.
(most amazing and disciplined crew of paramedics in the known world)
the runway was just large enough for the small jet
when i was out of the plane on the tarmac the pilot asked “How did you like that landing?”
i told him “it was great, we’re both walking away”
When i got to the receiving hospital at 2:00 am
The first question admitting asked was
“Why are you here, they flew you past seven hospitals to get here?”
here’s the mic drop

ParticipantIt is in the trying, that makes the journey, worthwhile.
The problem with trying to find the truth, is the truth keeps changing faster than you can find it!
Michael:
Michael, the problem with following all the gloom and doomers, is it adds nothing to your life but negativity, while preventing you from living your best life, and seeing the real world for what it is.
Some time ago, I stopped lugging around that burdensome and heavy “negativity” suitcase.
I left it at the curb, so another sucker could steal it!
(I hope it wasn’t you!)
I haven’t missed it one bit!You need to realize there is a niche market for this constant “negativity” news.
This negativity can be very addictive to some people, such that it consumes their whole life and outlook. But this isn’t representative of reality.
Reality has good and bad.
This makes life a struggle.
But without struggle, there would be no life, either.
Ying & Yang. But if you focus on the good, and that which you can control, then your outlook becomes more positive, and you become happier, because you are again back in control of your life!
Yes, you need to be more selective in what you let enter your world.
That doesn’t mean not being aware of dangers, just keep it in it’s proper place. So, unburden yourself of that which you can not control, by letting go of that suitcase!
Peace!

ParticipantDid you ask your A.I.: intelligent life as a non‑material self‑preserving pattern.
Tonight I asked, “A possible candidate “Intelligent life as a non‑material self‑preserving pattern”
— dark energy.
(Sweet Dreams)
If intelligent life is defined not by matter but by persistent, self‑maintaining informational structure, then dark energy becomes an intriguing candidate because:It permeates all of spacetime
It maintains a stable equation‑of‑state across cosmic time
It drives the large‑scale evolution of the universe
It resists dilution as the universe expands
It shapes the destiny of all matter and energy
Those are the hallmarks of a pattern that preserves itself across all perturbations.
6. The speculative leap: dark energy as a cosmic‑scale informational entity
This is not saying dark energy is “alive” in a biological sense. It’s saying:
If intelligent life is fundamentally a self‑preserving pattern, then dark energy is the largest, most stable, most persistent pattern in the universe.
It may not be intelligent, but it fits the structural criteria for a non‑material, self‑preserving informational pattern better than anything else we know.

ParticipantWhen I call out people like Musk, Trump, Obama, Clinton, Gates, Bezos, Elison, (etc, etc. etc.) as stupid I am not insulting them. I am describing them, and you might be surprised to see so many “famous geniuses” to be included on the list, like Henry Ford, Eric Schmidt, Henry Kissinger or even Abraham Lincoln. Good liars are not the same as good thinkers.
They actually are quite stupid, in the classical, grade school sense of the word. As in “Duh!”
The three big clues (proof, actually) are:
1) Other people (some of them quite smart) do literally everything for them. They have no personally made, D.I.Y. style, products or tangible skills of their own. They delegate like crazy, but they do not do.
2) The big ideas which they DO modestly hold out as evidence of their superiority are UNIFORMLY just bat-shit crazy, patently absurd or suicidally impossible. Such bright ideas that only the best of people are capable of comprehending include things like: making secrets and criminality legally mandatory, reducing human population, leaving the only place that can support human life, kill the people who are keeping everyone else alive, legalize murder and theft, criminalize truth, help and productivity.
3) They spend most of their time and money on manufacturing and maintaining the public image, largely because it is so hollow of real substance, and tend to be extremely sensitive about being stupid (and for the same reason. The point I’m making here is not that these people are undeserving of praise, and power, and highly deserving of ridicule and punishment (although both of those things are more or less the true).
The point is that these morons are the LAST people that any reasonably intelligent decent person should ever want to admire, emulate, or obey because THAT level of stupid will getcha kilt, or worse.
