The reason that people think that there are or have been great thinkers and writers out there and back into history is that all of us desperately hope that there is, or has been, someone out there who is smarter than we are, so that they can turn to that great person for help or advice. We know for sure that we aren’t even close to being able to cut it on our own.
But the simple truth of the matter is that you would not even recognize those sage advices and true statements of fact if you didn’t already know them in the first place. In other words, on that topic at least you are just as smart and wise as the famous guy who wrote it into book.
The only difference is that the “great” philosopher and writer of noble truths took the time and effort to write it out in long copy.
