tboc, I was 4 in 69. I had two options to go the military route, one out of high school and one out of college. Wasn’t because of a developed consciousness of good and evil that I chose different at the time. One required a stint at an all male university and the other a job that afforded me a car and an apartment that was more appealing than OSC. If I knew then what I know now, it would have been a no brainer to avoid such a choice. We are told so many lies, starting at a young age.

Some crazy bastards — like Hegseth — are right at home in the military. They love the violence. They love the idea of officially sanctioned violence. They are intoxicated by the notion of unleashing “maximum lethality” against America’s perceived enemies. But others, people with a sense of morality and conscience — deep down they know they did evil, often unnecessarily, not in furtherance of any lofty American ideals, and often undermining the the long term interests of the US. For them, knowing what they themselves have done, but being unable to candidly, truthfully and critically talk about what the US miliary actually does, hearing the brainwashed utter the vapid words “thank you for your service” is actually a curse.
