Altman Denies OpenAI Needs A Government Bailout: He Just Wants Massive Government Subsidies“ (Durden):
. . . what [OpenAI CFO] Friar did say – and what promptly spooked the market on Wednesday – is a mangled explanation of where the $1+ trillion in required funding would come from, saying OpenAI is “looking for an ecosystem of banks [and] private equity” to support its ambitious plans. But what triggered the selling is when she explicitly said that the US government would have to “backstop the guarantee that allows the financing to happen.”
In other words, when all the other sources of funds dried up – clearly a scenario the company is considering judging by her response – the company would have to come to the US taxpayer.
She further explained that “Federal loan guarantees would really drop the cost of the financing,” enabling OpenAI and its investors to borrow more money at lower rates to meet the company’s ambitious targets. Right… because there is nothing like a company with $14BN in revenue, $1 trillion in “valuation” and $1.4 trillion in commitments, than loading up to the gills with government-backstopped debt. See, if only Enron and Lehman could do the same, both would still be around…
Her comments from Wednesday afternoon immediately spooked the market and NVDA shares suffered their biggest weekly drop since April.
And the reason for the drop is precisely the fact that OpenAI was clearly considering what it would do when the money to fund the trillions in spending – first cash from operations, then debt, then equity – and circular deals dried up, the capital that had lifted NVDA to a $5 trillion market cap and OpenAI reportedly worth around $1 trillion ahead of its looming IPO (which will come just as the AI bubble truly peaks).
The fact that US taxpayers were basically the source of that money, is a little truth the market wasn’t read to hear just yet…. a truth which we laid out clearly one month ago.
The reaction – both in the market and within the heretofore complacent narrative surrounding the AI bubble – set off fire alarms, and prompted Sam Altman to publish his longest yet post (clocking in at almost 1100 words), in which he meant to “clarify a few thing”, namely that Friar had “misspoken” and that the ChatGPT maker was not seeking a bailout for its infrastructure commitments, and contrary to what his CFO mentioned, he “does not have or want government guarantees.“
Only, he does… but don’t call it a guarantee, or bailout.
You see, Friar’s comment was a carefully planted trial balloon, one meant to not only gauge…

The State of Israel has drafted a law that proclaims it to be LEGAL to rape male prisoners. The mind set is the same for all other sorts other prisoners and certain civilians, of course, but it so happens that the law that got written was the one about raping MALE prisoners. But here’s the thing. Everybody already knew that Israel THOUGHT that way, but as long as it was just “thought” and “opinion” it could be ignored for practical reasons. But now it is in WRITING and it unequivocally states, as publicly known law, that to commit the crime of rape is legally supported by the Government.
How can other countries support such a notion? If they recognize Isarael as a NATION with the sovereign right to create and defend such a law, then they are publicly abandoning their OWN legitimacy of being sovereign nations with the right to create and defend their own law.
You see where this has to go, don’t you?
That hideously bizarre new law that Israel just drafted and argues for (they may have actually signed it into law. I dunno and I don’t care because it doesn’t matter anymore now that it has happened. What matters is that they actually wrote it down as the official position of the sovereign State of Israel on the matter of raping male prisoners.
It will not be accepted because it CANNOT be accepted by any entity which wants to be, and expects to be, truly sovereign. They are ONLY sovereign if the other States let them be sovereign by not violently attempting to conquer them.
Israel is about to lose its LEGAL recognition as a sovereign state among other sovereign nations.

———–It’s notoriously difficult to pinpoint the effectiveness of the human immune system other than by life span. Basically it comes down to this : a person with an immune system lives longer than a person without one. How much longer is hard to say, but this much can be said with certainty: a functioning immune system is essential to long term survival because people who lose 100% of that function will die within days or weeks.
In other words, if a person dies from some full or partial mal function of the immune system (which covers everything except accident and homicide) then it was the malfunction of the immune system that killed. All deaths of such people, are attributable to that cause. Because the person dies BEFORE the would have died if their immune system was working as designed) then that makes it homicide. The person died because the defendant in this moral trial deliberately wrecked that immune system for the express purpose of personal gain (money, authority, power, immunity from the law, etc.).
The mental calculation necessary to resolve this paradox is not rocket surgery. The persons who wrecked humanity’s immune systems (roughly 2/3 of the gen pop of Earth were subjected to the vaxxine) then when each of them individually dies before their time because of an immune system that was wrecked by the vaxxine…. deliberately, for PROFIT. That’s a lot of homicides.
And so far not one single one of the culprits has been stopped, investigated, charged, convicted nor punished in any way whatsoever. They walk free, as rich and as unpunishable as humans have ever managed to be. Killing people young to make enormous profits is what these folks do for a living, and they are VERY effective at it.
Sort of tells you who’s in charge of this pop stand, doesn’t it?

Canadians haven’t heard much about the job since, and nothing at all about how Ukraine can be rebuilt while Russia continues its wide-scale bombing of critical infrastructure.
But experts say Canada has a major opportunity now to help preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and international law — and to turn a profit in multiple sectors.
Here’s what we know.
In a recent piece she wrote for The Financial Times, Freeland argued Ukraine can win against Russia if it’s sufficiently financed by western countries.
She called Ukraine an “innovation nation,” citing its remarkable success with a decentralized approach to building drones.Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada Andrii Plakhotniuk said even with the war going on, his country still manages to export products while building out an arms industry that has been forced to produce rapidly and adapt to new technology on the fly.
Plakhotniuk told the Senate committee that Canada already has preferred trade access in Ukraine through its recently updated trade agreement and the goodwill that comes with being a major financial donor.
“Ukraine is ready to develop joint production of defence matériel with our partners, including Canada,” he testified.
“Certainly, we understand the current risk of doing business in Ukraine. My message to all our friends in Canada here is we should use each and every opportunity to start business in Ukraine,” Plakhotniuk said, adding that this effort could start with projects in neighbouring countries.
“My major message is not to wait (until) we have postwar reconstruction efforts. We need your presence now. We need your good advice, and we need capacity-building and many other things.”
Lévêque testified that a small team of Canadian public servants stationed in Kyiv, and some trade officials in Poland, are working to find economic opportunities for Canadian firms in Ukraine. He conceded they’ve seen limited progress.
“We also send our ministers and trade commissioners, as well as Crown corporations such as Export Development Canada and the Canadian Commercial Corporation, which are there to facilitate this type of trade, especially when it comes to investments in the military sector or between governments,” he testified in French.

BBC Finds Presenter in Violation of Network Standards in Correcting “Pregnant People” Reference on Air
There is a controversy at the BBC over a correction made by presenter Martine Croxall on air when she changed a reference to “pregnant people” to “women.” The network later received 20 complaints and agreed that Croxall had violated network policies. (For full disclosure, I previously worked as the legal analyst for BBC).
In the segment, Croxall began by stating, “London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has released research, which says that nearly 600 heat-related deaths are expected in the U.K.” She then added “Malcolm Mistry, who was involved in the research, says that the aged, pregnant people — women, and those with pre-existing health conditions need to take precautions.”
When she said “women,” she seemed to briefly pause in frustration in making the change.
