Rembrandt van Rijn The artist’s son Titus 1657

Ah! 29 years later, a more mature artist and a more mature painter…
But, there remains something from his earlier work that is interesting; perhaps perception?
    Not being a serious critic…I don’t know…
But his son is a dead ringer, IMO…

    Calvin and Hobbes; relevant always…

    #50640

What I really like about this Calvin is that Bill Watterson in the third frame drew the last bit of Hobbes’s tail. “I’m outta here!”

It’s 350 years ago this year that Rembrandt died. The tragedies of his personal life are hard to sum up. He had four children with his big love Saskia, only Titus survived. But then, he died too at age 26. Saskia had already died years earlier as well at 29. And he of course lost every material thing he had too, more than once. Rembrandt was not spared by the creator. I used to go to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam quite a lot just to look at his self-portraits as an old man, marvelling at how someone can portray himself with so much sadness in his eyes. Not an easy thing to do. Don’t think I know anyone else who has tried.

“Trump Is on His Way to an Easy Win in 2020 – Moody’s (CNBC)”

Ouch. Again, if he’s this bad and this corrupt, it’ll be super-easy to beat him. The economy stinks, it’s all lies, and there’s many a slip with banks imploding before 2020, but you have to pin that against him selling out stadiums every. night. And with a message that we’re trying to get an economy and get things back home again. Warren is trying to win on giving foreign illegal immigrants free sex-change operations: no joke. Not selling, not on-message. SMH. #ComeBack.

The map is generous, as the 95% of counties voted GOP even last time. Also an example of why we must have the electoral college, otherwise, only 6 states would vote, the other 44 would be their slaves, and I thought we outlawed slavery. Bad enough as it is, as even within the six, a single city runs roughshod over the whole state, like Illinois.

“Trump Impeachment Probe Claims ‘Dramatic Progress’ (AFP)”

He’s so guilty, we don’t have an “impeachment probe”, we have a fake headline and no vote. They are so sure of their case they’ve banned the GOP congress and the public from the hearings, and changed from witness interviews to depositions where only one lawyer gives one statement, no questions allowed. And even THAT is in secret Star Council meetings. …From which testimony can be leaked, but unable to read the whole passage, context, or rebuttal. …Pretty standard for a Stalinist State and a party that openly aspires to Stalin’s progressive values.

So I do not find that suspicious at all. Sounds like they have a rock-solid case. …Or so rumor has it: I’m not allowed to see.

Giuliani Says He Won’t Comply with Subpoenas from Democrats (Hill)”

Fake news: he’s not saying that at all. They don’t have subpoena power until Congress inbues the committee with due authority. That requires a vote. And rules of process for the minority party. So he will comply with any and all legal, authorized, constitutional subpoenas, should any ever appear. …And they already went down this road with Tlaib when she said they’d go up, arrest Trump, and hold him in Detroit county jail (Every part of that being illegal under every process, he has to be impeached first, THEN removed, he is not subject to D.C. police, and Detroit has no jurisdiction): which side is the U.S. military on? Unlike Nixon and Kennedy, they are on Trump’s side, leaving the CIA/mercenaries against him and the Air Force flapping in the wind. Funny, when one side discusses military/civil war, it’s normal and okay, and when the other side does, as the Joker says, “everyone loses their minds.” It’s a real thing, a real discussion, so let’s talk through.

The Military, Intel, and the Marines put Cheeto in power. Who is Congress going to get to arrest him for obstruction? Ruth Bader Ginsberg? I think Andrew Jackson said the same thing. Anyway, have a VOTE, you know, with some DEMOCRACY, and you won’t have this problem.

Erdogan Tells Trump Turkey Will ‘Never Declare Ceasefire’ In North Syria (Ind.)”

    Awesome. WWE at its finest.

“The greater the regulatory divergence on either side of a border, the harder that border has to be.”

Excellent insight, however, the opposite: if the UK is undercutting the EU and drawing in great business, hardening the border hurts IRELAND. So the basis of the argument here is that the EU is horrible, hurts their members for spite, and the UK is a lot smarter to get away. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t Ireland push off the EU and tie up with the DUP to keep their largest trading partner? Not to say either, but this man is making the argument for Brexit and Irexit too, when I think he’s trying to Remain. #AntiLogos

Police Ban Extinction Rebellion Protests from Whole of London (G.)”

Hilarious. They love every leftist protest ESPECIALLY environmental ones until they break ONE window at the insiders-of-insiders, the BlackRock Group. Not 24 hours later, they’re a terrorist organization. Ah, living those principles from he-who-shall-be-obeyed.

Without Encryption, We Will Lose All Privacy (Snowden)”

Kind of, but you see my other comment today on using a P E N C I L. Wiretap THIS. I don’t know what’s wrong with people to not do this, not talk to people in person, where they can be your friends and actually help you. Do we love all machines more than life? Put down the phone.

I absolutely LOVE the MSM turning to John Bolton as a key ‘witness’ in their impeachment dream in what CNN now labels “a growing tapestry of evidence”. That’s literally saying there’s no evidence, but if you pile up all their fantasies, it does look like there is.

Meanwhile, the Dems debate last night was turned into just another reality TV show, rivalling all the other scheduled programming in meaninglessness. Are these people really working on bringing on Hillary or Michelle Obama? You know, now that”s it’s all about ratings anyway.

Can any of these doofuses beat Trump? Sure, but only if they impeach him. Not in an election. They have nothing. The DNC should be impeached, not Trump. For pure incompetence.

    Moon of Alabama:
The U.S. had more than 1,000 troops in northeast Syria. There were also several hundred French and British special forces and some 2,000 U.S. contractors. They, and a huge amount of equipment, are now moving out. They have nothing to fear from the Syrian forces. Syria is happy to see them leave. (Reports that the U.S.yesterday bombed Syrian troops are false.)
The strategic plan behind last week’s development must have come from Moscow. Russia has tried for some time to get Turkey into its camp. Russia, Iran and Syria allowed Turkey a limited invasion of Syria to scare the U.S. out. Russia largely supported the Turkish move but it will also set its limits.
Trump has been looking for a chance to move the U.S. troops out of Syria since December 2018. The borg made that politically unfeasible. The Turkish (Russian) move gave him the excuse he needed.
It is possible that the whole arrangement was made for exactly that purpose.

    Global Research:
The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad agreed to guarantee the safety of the Kurds as long as these become part of the National Security Forces. No other conditions were put forward by the Kurds, who have lost momentum with the sudden US withdrawal. Damascus promised there will be no revenge or resentment measures towards the Kurds who have, for years, acted as human shields to protect the US occupation forces which remained in Syria notwithstanding the defeat of ISIS.
The Russian-Kurdish deal consists of the deployment of the Syrian army on all borders with Turkey and the return of all sources of energy (gas and oil) to the Syrian government-controlled forces. These sources of energy are vital to the Syrian government, which has been suffering under heavy US-EU sanctions. Any delivery of oil was blocked, except the crude oil from Iran, whose supertanker managed to breach the siege.
The initial agreement between the Kurds and Damascus (via Russia) consists in the ending of the self-administration of NES, the integration of the Syrian Kurds under the command of the Syrian Army, and the pursuit and destruction of all ISIS forces.

“The slaughter of the Kurds being done by Turkey is yet another negative consequence of the regime-change war that we’ve been waging in Syria. Donald Trump has the blood of the Kurds on his hand — but so do many of the politicians in our country from both parties who have supported this ongoing regime-change war in Syria that started in 2011, along with many in the mainstream media, who have been championing and cheerleading this regime-change war,” she said.

The CIA has had a heart-attack gun since the 1960s…
Bernie Sanders released a proposal today that would gradually shift 20 percent of corporate equity into funds owned and controlled by the workers in each company. The plan, which would apply to all publicly-traded companies and large closely-held companies, would move 2 percent of corporate stock into worker funds each year for a decade. Once the shares are transferred into the funds, workers would begin receiving dividends and have the ability to exercise the voting rights of the shares, including the right to vote on corporate board elections and on shareholder resolutions.
Sanders’s plan is by far the most radical worker ownership proposal put forward by a presidential candidate in recent memory.

The only thing keeping Bernie alive is having been robbed by the DNC…
Billionaires could be slapped with an effective tax rate of 97.5% if Bernie Sanders wins the 2020 presidential elections, reported Bloomberg, who spoke with two economists advising both the Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren Presidential Campaigns.
Sanders’ effective tax rate of 97.5%, includes an income tax, but also a wealth tax that is aimed at breaking up family fortunes over time.
“With the wealth tax, you get directly at the stock instead of hitting the flow of income, making it a much more powerful de-concentration tool than income taxes,” University of California, Berkeley professor Emmanuel Saez wrote in an email.
Saez said Sanders’ wealth tax would slash the number of billionaires in the country by at least half by 2030.

    EXTINCTION

For this century the Red List, which monitors extinctions, is averaging two per year. To cater for the many claims of extinctions then this really needs to increase thousands of times!

The Extinction Rebellion is ‘rebelling’ against something which is not happening.

The climate has been changing for 4.5 billion years, and has always included extreme weather events. There is no evidence that the current climate is much different from the past, and zero evidence that human activity is responsible for any bad weather.

It does seem that some populations are under stress, but this is usually for real reasons, like habitat loss or chemicals sprays. This can be tackled if need be. Evolution keeps on happening so some species die and others are formed.

There have been a couple of interesting sections on the BBC about archeologists exploring early humans in Britain – about 400,000 years ago. At the time Britain was a savannah populated by elephants, rhinos, lions, terrapins, etc. The conclusion was that Britain was much warmer than today!

Scientific reconstruction of global temperatures over several billion years has shown that the Earth was usually a few degrees warmer than today. It was intriguing that there seems to be an upper limit, so I assume there is some feedback to stop ‘runaway global warming’, probably clouds.

Trump said that he is getting oppositions from ALL sides for trying to stop fighting perpetual wars.
If he cannot stop the killing/wars then who can?

The news media that I thought were against war and were for peace have fallen off the wagon. They are shouting, and fraughting at the mouth because Trump is attempting to bring troops home.
