I don’t understand the aircraft. Why use a passenger liner for this purpose?
I’d think an ideal AWAC would be something from roughly a F-14 to an F-111 to a B-1. A swing-wing with a powerful engine and ECM that can loiter with wings out, but go supersonic when it needs to scoot.
Why don’t non fighter airplanes that OUGHT to flee combat have rear facing missiles for intercepting air to air missiles? Why don’t they make rear-facing missile mounts anyway? Wouldn’t you win every dogfight? Wouldn’t there be a host of useful occasions for a rear-facing hardpoint?
Like if Maverick had a weapons pod on one or two of his hardpoints with a rear-facing autocannon on a ball mount run by an automatic targeting computer so all he has to do is turn it on, wouldn’t he win every dogfight?
I always thought the Boulton Paul Defiant was a cool idea whose time had not yet come yet due to technology limitations of the time. It had a turret that could defend your rear just like a Dauntless or JU-87, HOWEVER, you could aim it straight up, you could turn it all the way around and aim it straight forward.
I mean you’ve got a QUAD machine gun mount and if you are in any kind of dogfighting turning engagement – chasing or being chased – the enemy is trying to bring his nose around, he has to aim his entire machine at you to aim his guns at you when your guns can turn on a swivel and engage him. YB-40 failed for 2 reasons, one perhaps solvable at the time.
All those guns created so much drag that they couldn’t keep up with normal B17’s. They should have used the interior of the aircraft for the gun traverse so only the muzzle pointed out. Enlarged the turrets and pulled the machine guns back to be mostly inside the turret.
And targeting just wasn’t that great. They shot down some fighters when sent out, but just weren’t all that effective. (I guess fighters worked better than bombers with 30 guns because you get into a stern chase and shoot from directly behind as opposed to trying to properly lead the target going sideways past you) With modern targeting, I think it would be a different story.
But I think at the very least, why use an airliner even, why not use a heavy lifter of some kind and fill it up with self defense and countermeasures? Why should your airborne radar be so flat-footed?

Any solution that does not destroy the super-rich is not a solution. The super-rich claim that the world cannot work without them, well hold my beer, I am sure it can operate just fine without leeches and I am sure that far fewer people would die.
Of course, the alternative could be that someone of value and leadership with a powerful team of fixers turns up in the USA, but that is very unlikely, actually less than unlikely, impossible given that the USA is already under external control.
We do not need wars, for Death/depopulation, Gaia has as a self-regulating complex system.
