My main interest with these AI language engines is that TPTB will soon be able to use them to provide you with a completely customised version of the web. At the moment we comment on TAE, I assume I am receiving the same listing that others are receiving. What if TPTB use chat bots to customise the comment section so that you only see comments from bots and all others logged into TAE also only see their own customised comment section with comments from a selection of bots. You would never see any information from the other users. TAE would not need to implement this, your government could do it by modifying the page you receive when you connect to TAE. Such a system would enable them to control not only the data sent to you but also the preceived opinions of your fellow man. They try to do this at the moment, as we all know, by getting bots to promote a certain position on comment boards. With these AI machines they will be able to do that much more effectively.
What is more interesting a quesiton is whether people would prefer comment sections generated just for you by a bunch of bots. You would obviously easily discover that your copy of TAE is different to your wife’s copy, but would that be a problem? How would the general population react? Would they lose interest or would the bots make the comment section more enticing, using more of the reader’s time.

I don’t want to “tempt hubris” and declare that I cannot be deceived by a chatbot, but based on my life experiences thus far, especially the Covid media coverage and my reaction to it, I suspect that I would realize that something odd was going on before too long.

Fair enough. I get frustrated and I demonstrate things by hyperbole. Their logical extreme, the Devil’s Advocate. I am much enamoured of people who can accurately understate things in the British fashion, I think it’s a better method, but I am not that person.
If they present custom pages we would find out right away, and get around it right away. Just like Covid. Many people would not believe it and stay on, just like now.
