July 17, 2021 at 11:34 am #79995Dr. DParticipantI like the painting tho less Hopperish, but anything with a naked girl has my approval.
There’s an article on the futility of satire, here: https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2021/07/13/the-news-killed-satire/ that says: ”cuddly elephants are the latest weapon in President Xi Jinping’s propaganda offensive to present a more “lovable” global image of China.
In other words, to distract the West from noticing the millions of Uyghurs shackled together in chain gangs tearing down mosques while being force-fed pork sandwiches, the communist dictators in Beijing have unleashed stories of cute cuddly animals. How could anybody satirize that? “
Where the point is well-taken. However, I’d like to point out that the Uyghers in China are almost certainly being set up like the Kurds in Iraq – that is, the U.S. has now spent 50 years creating Muslim problems for the “soft underbelly of Russia” … and elsewhere, and has whole departments and vast, lucrative subcontracting network “to get rich is glorious” for it. Remember that whack news article going breathless on events in Tajikistan couple years ago? Where/what??? They had set that up for China, who, as China, let them. And when the time was right, this is how they “the Han Chinese” responded to the boring, obvious, predictable, U.S. attempt: total ethnic cleansing and complete annihilation. To make a point? Or just ‘cause that’s the way they – CCP and racist, ethnic Han – work. ‘Cause we can’t read history. Or read at all. The Han are surrounded for 5,000 years by out-groups nearly their size, and put them off in rotation, while also importing 10% Han to hold the region. …And if they don’t, China falls and everyone dies, as many times in history. Put another way, either a) your weak bulls—t tactics don’t work on us or b) maybe you can wake up to a government who does this, after modernizing, unifying all national systems, arming, and mostly mobilizing. I’ll let you draw the parallels to the last nation we sat around and watched do that.
While we’re on contrapoint, there are 9,000 VAERS deaths, x10 or x100, = one million. …I don’t see it. Yes, there are a lot of deaths, far more than any vaccine, possibly any drug ever, and they stopped H1N1 vaccine after like 200 not to totally discredit pharmaceutical companies and vaccines altogether. But a million? Use your head: YES that’s distributed over both time and space, not just in hot spots, BUT systems only are systems, a lot of them would still make the emergency room, and morgues, funeral homes don’t pop up overnight. You’d see them full at least, like at Covid peak. So we’re talking a a chronic low level, 10x maybe. And that could continue, spread over years it could reach 100 or 500x, but not now. Or not any place I’m hearing about.
On another, different, “50 years”, “Boston Pride” is disbanding. And not because homosexuality is near-universally accepted while CIS-heterosexuality is considered the mark of bigots. No, disbanding in pleasant victory would kind of be a good thing. Instead the wide, old-time progressives there got run out by Woke harassment. They weren’t meeting the party quotas for skin color, etc. So they said, “F’ it, fine. We’re done. Get another group to advocate for friends, mobilize social progress, and get out the vote.”
What? After 50 years? I’d say “why do this after all this time, this history, this win?” but I understand. What does that say about the situation on the Left or in America right now? You’re sitting around, with your – 4th of July parade or whatever – and an illiterate 17 year old with pink hair shows up and says, “Yeah, um, I just talked to my three friends, and we decided the number ‘4’ is a racist number of patriarchy and oppression. So you have to stop having a ‘4’ parade and anything and join the Cinquo parade me and Chelsea just made up last Saturday.” …And apparently everyone says “yes”? Don’t hurt us Chelsea! We’re your real friends, honest! And as they visit the Library, the Museum, the power plant, water treatment, with the same message? Everyone says yes? We do whatever Chelsea says now because she was voted most popular in July ‘21?
Yes. Yes we do. And snap to it. But how does that work to run your country as a junior high school mean girls clique? I have the feeling people are storing up and out to get her. …Sort of. They don’t put a horse in her bed, they just all decided they’re tired of adolescent s—t and put her back in line as a normal human being. You can’t go around killing your own allies, which is equal-time to killing imaginary made-up enemies, the other bane of junior high school dramas.
Or as Taibbi says: “The Myth Of The Winnable Culture War” You won! Congratulations! Now you also have no food and no drinking water. No cars that you’re carbon-free, no medicines and no movies that aren’t boring, flat, approved-Party Material.

…Cases mean nothing, only health outcomes. But I agree it’s disturbing.
“But you just said half of the current virus carriers are vaccinated! And they can still go to weddings?”
Why would anyone care or isolate if vaccines work? Why did we invent them? If it’s going like this should we un-invent and stop talking about them? What’s the point?
“60% of the patients in serious conditions were vaccinated.”

Not sure. If the DOCTORS are un-curious, un-scientific boobs, you can only IMAGINE the level of science and medicine their illiterate patients would exhibit. But maybe I can’t save people from themselves, and the transition back to the reality of consequences will be messy. But if the patient says they want morphine, or a ivermectin they’re allergic to, should he have to prescribe? The impulse is sound, but being draconian is just as ill on the other side.

Then they can’t ‘seize’ it because it was always waiting for them to stop sucking donuts and do their jobs. Which they still haven’t done, by the way. “It is impossible for someone to lie unless he thinks he knows the truth. Producing bullshit requires no such conviction. A person who lies is thereby responding to the truth, and he is to that extent respectful of it. When an honest man speaks, he says only what he believes to be true; and for the liar, it is correspondingly indispensable that he considers his statements to be false.
For the bullshitter, however, all these bets are off: he is neither on the side of the true nor on the side of the false. His eye is not on the facts at all, as the eyes of the honest man and of the liar are, except insofar as they may be pertinent to his interest in getting away with what he says. He does not care whether the things he says describe reality correctly. He just picks them out, or makes them up, to suit his purpose.

July 17, 2021 at 2:06 pm #80006SmokeyRocksParticipantYesterday YouTube threw up this video of Brian Williams of MSNBC quoting Carl Sagan which I found interesting:
Part of the quote reads
“I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time — when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.”This starts at ~2:25. “… when the people have lost the ability to … knowledgeably question those in authority…” I wonder if Brian realizes how ironic this is coming from MSNBC. I also wonder why this hasn’t been censored yet.

July 17, 2021 at 4:08 pm #80016NoiretteParticipantMaxwell Q. posted (prev. thread):
As I drove home, I wondering how this could be: that a highly intelligent, well-travelled, ex bank president, independent, strong-willed woman could suck up the entire mainstream Covid narrative like a Hoover Deluxe? Then I saw Reid’s post of the Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn quote and it struck me: She hasn’t even peeled the first layer of the truth onion. She doesn’t know that “they are lying”. There is a blind trust of what she sees on TV and reads in the newspaper. This always seems to be the case until one of those lies reaches out and bites you in the ass.
What makes this incident relevant to the quote above is that the woman, who has been attempting to raise her awareness, grew up in communist Romania. Like Solzhenitsyn, she knew that governments lie to their people… brazenly, to the full extent of “we know they know we know they are lying”.
In the US at present, the well-placed, the professiona, managerial, classes, those with social capital, the rich … Say, the 20%, who own property, own ‘shares’, have comfortable salaries, sit on nodes that confer decisionary powers, play consequent roles in ‘running things’, etc., the 20% includes the hopeful hangers on who are subservient to that class and/or hope to join it with full accreditation! …are *de facto* obliged to adhere to Gvmt. decisions, mantras, propaganda.
Why? Because the whole kaboodle, the system, has been set up, created, to favor them, keep them on board, protect their privileges, and ensure their complicity. (Some of them know this but won’t admit it.)
An ex bank-president (in the US) can’t possibly become a class traitor, to put it in old-fashioned terms. She ‘believes’ the TV (propaganda), as she must, even if she judges it is shaky or off-key, because the ppl around her, her mates, her buddies, her family, her colleagues (? ?..) all of them, adhere to it, or pretend to. She can’t leave her tribe, become an outcast, and be subject to rejection, Like oh my god did you hear.. she is a conspiracy theorist, a right-winger, maybe even a ‘deplorable.’
The picture in the ex-USSR (I went to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, before the fall of the wall) was completely different.
The ‘Gvmt’ powers were decried and dismissed by everyone except for a tight, small, ‘cadre’ at the top. Who kept out of public view.
Docs, U Profs, engineers, Gvmt. employees e.g. responsible for Public Works, aspiring capitalists aka entrepreneurs, ‘traders’ perhaps dubious but!, young ppl hankering for ‘western’ clobber, others, were all super pissed off. That is one of the main reasons why the USSR collapsed.
Even the ‘cadres’ some I met were only compliant to pocket the pay, to feed the kiddies. Particularly in Poland, some of these cadres ran illegal (not nefarious) bizness on the side. They sold washing machines, cement, un-registered photocopy machines, high quality cloth, and shoes from Italy, for ex. via complicated circuits.

July 17, 2021 at 4:19 pm #80018madamski cafoneParticipantAs is so often the case, Noirette, you identify a core issue.
That so many Americans still trust, even if only grudgingly, the mainstream news that sold them on WMDs in Iraq, tells us that they simply don’t want to know the truth. They’ve been conditioned not to seek or accept truth since kindergarten if not sooner. It’s in the air we breathe.
Nonetheless, our complicity is ours. Pink Floyd’s The Wall was HUGE in the 70s. Peace/love/civil rights/end war was HUGE in the 60s. Punk was HUGE in the 80s. etc. But then the kids of those decades grow up and have to make money or live as a homeless exile (as I did for so many years), there being virtually no place to live outside the money envelope any more.
Once one submits to Mammon, the “enemy” has won. Almost everyone submits to Mammon.

He assumes that we ever abandoned superstition and darkness. Get serious, Carl. Learning a few magic cosmic laws so you can channel fire and electrons into complicated mineral artifices in no way removes superstition or the darkness that grows around us despite the streets drowning in neon at night.
With or without running water and on/off light switches, we’re still existential orphans with no clue how or why we came to be. Who detonated the Big Bang? Who pulled God’s finger? That Gaugin painting:

Not sure why anyone would question Dr Martin because “he wears a bow tie” or for any reason, really. He cites specific patent numbers, details what the patents were for, ties that patent information and the patent filers in with what has taken place over the past 18 months. Until someone offers a well-documented, rational argument against what Dr Martin is presenting, I see no reason not to consider his information credible.

July 17, 2021 at 8:07 pm #80027cloudhiddenParticipantOn another subject: Just spoke with friends in the area of the Lytton Canada fire that destroyed the village and burned out some of the surrounding areas: All communications in the area were lost within 8 minutes of the onset of the emergency. They are off-grid with an independent water supply and a significant stock of fuel and emergency supplies. People showed up asking for help, fuel, food. All freely given. My friends were astonished at how quickly their stock of supplies were depleted. That’s in a small community where everybody pretty much knows each other. Only a few had made any emergency preps and most of those had no opportunity to do anything other than escape with their lives. A city full of strangers would not have fared so well.

* Green triangle – convicts and criminals (often working as kapos).
* Blue triangle – foreign forced laborers and emigrants. This category included apatrides, Spanish refugees from Francoist Spain, whose citizenship was revoked and emigrants to countries which were occupied by Nazi Germany or were under German sphere of influence.[2]
Purple triangle – primarily Jehovah’s Witnesses (over 99%) as well as members of other small pacifist religious groups.[notes 1]
* Pink triangle – primarily homosexual men and those identified as such (e.g., bisexual men, trans women)[3][4][5] and sexual offenders as well as pedophiles and zoophiles.[6]
* Black triangle – people who were deemed asocial elements (asozial) and work-shy (arbeitsscheu), including the following:
– Roma and Sinti. They wore the black triangle with a Z notation (for Zigeuner, meaning Gypsy) to the right of the triangle’s point.
– Mentally ill and mentally disabled. Their triangles were inscribed with the word Blöd, meaning stupid.

July 17, 2021 at 10:22 pm #80030absolute galoreParticipantFrom the “Free” pandemic coverage by our friends at The Atlantic. You remember, the ones who proudly proclaim after each of these articles, The Atlantic’s COVID-19 coverage is supported by grants from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
“The hospital is now busier than at any previous point during the pandemic. In just five weeks, it took in as many COVID-19 patients as it did over five months last year. Ten minutes away, another big hospital, Cox Medical Center South, has been inundated just as quickly. “We only get beds available when someone dies, which happens several times a day,” Terrence Coulter, the critical-care medical director at CoxHealth, told me….
…Those ICUs are also filling with younger patients, in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, including many with no underlying health problems. In part, that’s because elderly people have been more likely to get vaccinated, leaving Delta with a younger pool of vulnerable hosts. While experts are still uncertain if Delta is deadlier than the original coronavirus, every physician and nurse in Missouri whom I spoke with told me that the 30- and 40-something COVID-19 patients they’re now seeing are much sicker than those they saw last year. “That age group did get COVID before, but they didn’t usually end up in the ICU like they are now,” Jonathan Brown, a respiratory therapist at Mercy, told me. Nurses are watching families navigate end-of-life decisions for young people who have no advance directives or other legal documents in place.”
Wow. Scary stuff. Here’s the current chart for Missouri from the NYT:
