    Regarding Lynyrd Skynyrd:

    “Simply Man” is my favourite.

    [Verse 1]
Mama told me when I was young
“Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this, it’ll help you some sunny day, ah yeah”

    [Break]
    (Be a simple man)

    [Verse 2]
Oh, take your time, don’t live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You’ll find a woman, yeah, and you’ll find love
And don’t forget, son, there is someone up above

    [Chorus]
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can?

    [Verse 3]
Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh, baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied

    [Chorus]
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can?
    Oh, yes, I will

    [Guitar Solo]

    [Verse 4]
Boy, don’t you worry, you’ll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh, baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied

    [Chorus]
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can?

    [Outro]
Baby, be a simple, be a simple man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man

Planted a 250 foot row of potatoes
    by hand
    with my Dad
    over the last 2 days
    including the crowbar
    to remove some big stone

And the current quasi-Marxist Critical Theory Gnostic Hermetic Deconstructionist Postmodernist whackoness,….

Without the urge to elaborate line of adjectives, I have to say this:
Per my best understanding and observations, great majority of non religious folks had always had an opinion that if someone thinks that the guy who cut the hole in the bed-sheet and wears it is his or hers conduit to the higher being which prevents them to “go postal” they go: “By all means please do it!” (just leave me alone).
However in the case of latter, almost majority would love, albeit quietly and covert, to enact the law where the former would be led in chains to the dungeon or even executed for not being the follower. That’s how red-eyed level of insanity goes.
    One more thing:
In sports, trade associations, clubs…etc, there is always an assumption that one has to meet stringent qualifications to join it. There is a certain pride of being in the group where competence of members is verified. However in religion, that is a core pillar for many in, one simply “joins” and is accepted with meekly smiles of the congregation???
On the other hand and it may sound odd, I have a certain level of respect for people who dedicated their lives to monasteries for uncompromising spiritual journey. Which i to say that my observation of the church crowd during the attendance, out the respect for some family event, is of a mixed feeling.

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

@Oroboros re: “All of the ‘data scraping’ for the past couple decades is for the purpose of feeding the bottomless pit and appetite of AI programs.”

At the dawn of the InnerTubes, my then boss turned me on to an important thing that could be done with the new toy, Seti@Home, which was a scheme to farm out analysis of the radio telescope data. It was super-cool, an excellent use of the resources, and was a great model for other projects.

BOINC was devised as a modular ‘project bay’ for this kind of activity. It absorbed Seti@Home and gained a few other interesting projects, and you could apportion your compute resources the way you wanted, ‘weighting’ each project in which you participated.

An early rider of the BOINC system was Folding@Home, a ‘protein folding modeler’ purportedly for medical research that you, John Q Public, could help perform and be a part of the magic! Well, now don’t I feel like a heel for having participated in this f#(<ing scary black box project? In hindsight, I feel like I was asked to take repeated tries at cracking a safe that someone else needed to access.

    Scraping, cajoling, gaslighting…ugh!

If existence IS god, and the admonishment is “Love The Lord with all your heart and all your soul” one must ask – DO I embrace existence, give it full, total acceptance? Or do I cringe away from it? If I fully embrace existence as Ayn Rand urges us to do and God is existence the verb – literally IS “exist-ING”, then do I not “Love the Lord with all my heart and all my mind”? And isn’t existence scary? Am I not therefore…. god-fearing even?”

In a word, yes. In many words (and, of course, “in my opinion”) , it seems to me that although you frame it quite a bit differently than I would, what you are saying is right on the mark.

The US takeover of Ukraine is being duplicated in Taiwan. The Taiwanese press is totally one sided, encouraging the 23 million Taiwanese that they should fight China. Of course, all sane people know that will be the end of Taiwan forever and the end of all young males in Taiwan. The older generation that wanted peace with China are being sidelined, the younger generation that has been brainwashed in school, believe everything USA is great and that they should fight.

The people who really make me sick are those, and we know a few of them, who have moved the majority of their wealth offshore so that they can escape with their families if China attacks, these people still support independence, but they are not prepared to fight for it and lose their children for it, they will leave others to do that: how contemptible.

I am visiting Taiwan and you can see the media brainwashing process in action. Anyone who recommends talks with China is labelled a coward and a traitor by the journalists. The USA has its usual meddling influence here, with a huge proportion of the local GDP going towards buying US weapons, the US MIC is not going to let Taiwan go until it has done a Ukraine to Taiwan.

Taiwan could negotiate an agreement with China, that happened twenty years ago and worked well, was making progress, but then the US got involved. The USA – as seen by Pelosi’s visit and other political figures – is trying to foment war. They will be happy to destroy Taiwan – by brainwashing and bribery – and they want it to happen soon, so they taunt China, trying to show China as weak, very similar to the Ukraine Nazi thugs killing civilians in Donbas, trying to taunt Putin into responding.

Eventually China will have no choice, the USA will have pushed them so far that they need to fight to defend themselves. At that point, whatever cards Taiwan currently holds will be worthless and the Taiwanese people will become the lowest class of the China world, given the worst jobs, hated by the mainland Chinese, bullied and left to live in poverty while the rich people who worked with the USA will be living elsewhere. It will take a lifetime, 100 years, for them to recover.

However, the US, at that time the greatest creditor nation in history, stepped off the economic cliff.

And yet, that occurred almost fifty years ago. In the past, fiat currency collapse has generally been far swifter. Why has the dollar been in suspended animation for so long?

Holy Shit – do not move to Africa to be a politician – your chances of dying from Covid rise far above the poor population.
