AN INTRODUCTIONIn response to the previous article, it was suggested that it would be helpful if we had a comprehensive statement, a sort of Surplus Energy Economics 101, for new readers. This makes a great deal of sense, particularly given how many people have joined the SEE readership since the last time the thesis was set out in this way. The plan is that the article which follows will be made available as a downloadable PDF in the near future.
The aim here is to encompass two themes in a single article. The first is the basic logic informing the Surplus Energy Economics approach. This builds on the long-established principle that the economy should be understood as an energy system, not a financial one.
The second is an evaluation of where we are today on the evolution of the economy as energy interpretation explains it. This makes extensive use of the Surplus Energy Economics Data System (SEEDS), which models the economy as an energy system.
PART ONE: PRINCIPLE
The best way to start is with the “trilogy of the blindingly obvious”. No-one new to the subject can go far wrong if they bear in mind these three principles.
1.1. The economy is energy
The first principle is that all forms of economic output – literally all of the goods and services which comprise the ‘real’ economy – are products of energy.
Nothing of any economic value or utility can be supplied without using energy. Energy can be defined as ‘a capacity for work’ and, historically, everything that we wanted or needed was produced using the labour (work) of humans and animals, plus some early application of the power of wind and water. That changed from the late 1700s, when we learned how to deploy the vast reserves of energy contained in fossil fuel (FF) deposits of coal, oil and natural gas.
There is an abundantly clear correlation between escalating use of energy and the massive increases in population numbers, and their economic means of support, since the late eighteenth century (see fig. 1).
It should be noted that other natural resources (such as foods and minerals) are energy products, too, since we can’t grow wheat, for example, or extract and process copper, without using energy to do so.

But it will be too late to do anything about it.If the “Americans” didn’t figure this out on November 4th, 2020 they’ll never “find out”, nor be willing “to do anything about it”.

This I find interesting in that the following are two statements one statement apart. Keeping in mind that all they ever give are predictions over last years totals, which is also somewhat suspect in the way the measures are conducted in some countries. Anyhow the following statements:
“Linked partly to reduced shipments from the war-torn Black Sea region, total grains exports are forecast to decline by 2% in 2021-22 to 417 million tonnes. The IGC projects trade to decline even further in 2022-23 to 405 million tonnes.”
Then:
“The IGC said the monthly upward revision was mainly tied to “a revised maize projection for Ukraine, where acreage exceeded expectations.”
I thought Ukraine was in that “war zone”. I must have missed something?

The variety of ways different countries and agencies come up with these numbers is in and of itself a study in contradictions. At the start of planting most averages are a compo of acres planted and yields expected based on the last few years average. One big missing cost is hectares planted versus those harvested. If the farmer plants 1000 hectares that is tallied in the opening average expected harvest. However if the same farmer can only harvest 750 hectares those are what is counted and averaged at bushels per hectare produced. The time, effort and any expenses incurred on the unharvested 250 is no longer on the radar, just in the expense account of said farmer. The economists would say no problem, due to those losses the price will rise to compensate the farmer. Ha! ask any farmer if that’s how it looks in the farm ledger.
Homo sapiens have survived cataclysms, tyranny, genocide & true pandemics throughout millennia, but with the advent of high tech, nuclear weapons, breaking the genetic code et al., it is within the realm of reason to postulate that “humanity” is facing a genuine existential crisis entirely due to it’s failure to maintain the barest of global ethics/morals, with which to reign in pathologically dishonest, rapacious thinking & behavior.
It is my studied opinion & experience, that the required evolutionary jump to a world where the Natural Rights of ALL living things be honored & protected (as a matter of course) is only possible when “spirituality” is valued & taught, not scoffed at or dismissed due to random examples religious charlatanism…
History is replete with examples of “spirituality” providing a sane compass heading in a human sea of chaos & suffering.

This would continue the same system, with some adjustments and house-cleaning, so all the “stakeholders” could be assured of renewed faith while theings stayed similar for their ownership interests.I have thought that such a ruse would not possibly work to create a real bottom, but the temptation to try it must be high.
The temptation to double-down again is bound to be higher, as the federal-vote-rigging story points out. It federal vote rigging fails, then maybe a false-capitulation and handover of the reins to the Republicant party could get “laigs” as we call them here. That seems like a stretch.
It seems more likely that there will be fractionation. the Texas Republicant party also voted a Succession-referendum into their platform. Big-Talk as usual, but a flash-point may be reached.
I’m actually seeing a lot of signs that Texas breaking away could work. Who would join Texas? The whole Gulf-Coast, including Florida? Oklahoma? New Mexico? Colorado?

I just read a clip over on Zero Hedge which in all earnestness and no sense of irony, reported that more and more American consumers are becoming genuinely worried about how all this galloping inflation might hurt the future purchasing power of their “savings.”

I may have grossly overestimated basal intelligence and underestimated the stupidity of “American Savers”.
Maybe the place to start is to inform (if that is even possible) those “Savers” that having temporary access privileges to a less-than-flimsy electronic receipt confirming one’s balance of electronically credited “money” in a government controlled financial institution is not money. It’s about as far from being “money” as “money” is from the being the actual tangible things that money tries to symbolically represent.
Luckily for these “savers” they are unlikely to experience any rude awakening. . . . . because once somebody is THAT unconscious awakening is practically impossible. Divine intervention from a benevolent God is pretty much their only hope.
