So they’re so arrogant and ignorant not only will they kill themselves but the rest of us too. They just can’t bother to ask. Now I’m glad I wrote that farming article. Unfortunately it’s not going to come in handy since working backwards to those practices will take decades, and sustainability will cause generation-long yield drops. Not that we shouldn’t do that, but things need to be adjusted.

Having done the small animal husbandry thing for a number of decades I can say that manure is like gold if you’re a gardener. I no longer keep any animals but maintain a large enough garden that we are still eating from last years produce. Finding manure for the garden is now a trip of about one hour one way so I don’t have as steady a supply as I once had. We compost everything except bones, they draw bib animals such as bears. I fortunately live near the ocean and can haul seaweed by the truck load to the gardens and, in my experience it is as good as manure, maybe better. Prices have jumped by 4 to 6 cents in many urban centres across the country. In Vancouver, the price of regular gasoline reached $2.17. Prices on the Prairies have remained unchanged over the last day, because they jumped up 9 cents three days ago!
Lowest price in Canada is in Edmonton: … C$1.619 , Vancouver: C$2.169 highest. Me, in Calgary pays C$1.639 per litre of regular.

Question: Has anyone noticed differences in gas prices? When i was growing up gas was always, always more expensive in the city. Nothing huge but it was always five to ten cents cheaper in the rural areas but in the last few years i’ve noticed the opposite. Anybody have any ideas as to why the change?

Without artillery support in good quantity the Ukrainian military has no chance to hold the line and to stop Russian moves. Any unit which attempts is hold the line will simply be mauled by Russian artillery until it is no longer able to fight. That is happening now. As the Ukrainians have orders not to leave or move their defense lines they either have to give up or die defending them.
By giving ‘hold the line’ orders the Ukrainian leadership is contributing to the Russian demilitarization of the Ukraine.
Why is it doing that? The situation for the Ukraine is hopeless and has been for some time. Why has its President Zelensky not given up? Why does he not agree to Russia’s peace conditions? …
..It is the ‘west’ that is preventing Zelensky from suing for peace.

All of the seasoned soldiers are already being chewed up by war. These new weapons take time to learn and much more time to learn to use effectively in battle.
Many are not applicable to battle, like anti-tank missiles with range a little over a mile, when enemy tanks are behind the artillery batteries, which are pounding you from 20 miles away. The West has some time to prepare other troops for the meat-grinder, if the Ukrainians can appear to hold out until September.
Poles and Romanians seem to be next in that line-up.

Hungary has announced they will not stop purchasing oil and gas from Russia and join a blockade of energy products by the 27 member EU alliance.

@Mr. House: different local taxation-entities levy different rates of tax upon gasoline, I believe.
Some places may have different contracts than others. Prices vary markedly over a period of days along my frequent 100 mile drive. Our local Valero, our local Costco, and 2 grocery stores of the same chain, in different rural communities are what I largely monitor. Any one of them might win on one day and (except Costco) be most expensive a couple of days later.
The stations that are always cheapest in their neighborhoods appear to have it as a business model. People go in and buy other things, too.@johnday
I didn’t know countys or localities taxed fuel, i only thought the feds and the state .gov did.
My state doesn’t have local fuel taxes, just state and fed .gov. So why the difference? I’ve observed that since 2008 just about all the subsidies and investment money has gone into the cities (healthcare, higher ed, ect) Just more punishment for rural people?

When I look at Texas fuel taxes specifically, I find that I was mistaken.
I know there are always some places just out of some towns, on the interstate, that are always cheaper.Sorry, I was wrong.
