Assange’s situation is like that of the Nuremberg Code: both were dead on arrival at the USA docket beginning with the eponymous shit-show trials. He held up a mirror that at first judged the insolently mighty and their associates but with each year, and now probably only days, that mirror reflects on us, the weak powerless well–behaved members of an orderly society, unable to stop one person’s death despite countless millions of us knowing it is fundamentally wrong across the board.
The mirror asks: Where Were You? and points to where many of us will soon be: feeling powerless, pointless, futile, without so much as the grace of a cage to shield us from the truth.
Having not yet received the order to stop obeying orders, we continue obeying the orders we receive.

What the Assange sorry story, and the blown out of all proportions Covid debacle, make me think is that we live in a turning point of history. The information age has grown up faster than we have, than we ever could.
And it’s leaving us behind. The only defense mechanism we have left is a deep notion of what it means to be human, and how that divides us from other living species, or even from machines. And we are failing.

Prisoners in the cells on each side of Murray became ill with COVID, though the cells themselves are not “hermetically sealed” and the window, which is separated by bars, cannot open to let in fresh air.
Murray said staff discouraged prisoners, even the symptomatic ones, from asking to be tested in an environment Murray described as “filthy” with rats scurrying around cells.

A bit like CS Lewis’s story about the Great Divorce. The folks in “hell” have a hard time letting go, so too are the NPCs who are afraid of becoming who the are, human.
I have to admit that this whole Covid thing has forced me to closely exam what it means to be human, spirituality, and appreciating what our ancestors did in the founding of western civilization.

The Ugly Truth is that they pretty much did what earned them money. The Money Power, following their perceived Biblical prophecies, that financed what exists — and nothing is more important than financing. Yes, there was some rebellion here and there, but it was short lived.
The well crafted Beautiful Lie is what most people believe.
The one caveat is the Money Power is mad at Tesla. They did NOT intend for ordinary humanity to benefit from A/C electricity. They wanted DC in order to centralize energy, the essence they value above all else (and why they biochemically deplete it from the unwitting). Think Hunger Games-ish. Even then, they respected “natural law” and allowed it flow… according to their belief system.
We have been UzBanksterstan for a very, very, very long time — well beyond your entire lifespan.

Thank you for presenting a bold “call to action” by asking us to examine what it means to be human. I believe this is the key to understanding what we have lost – and more importantly, what we need to be fighting for – as we move forward TOGETHER.
Yes, “The essence of a human being is courage, and empathy, and love, and independent thought, independent living”. Add respect, devotion/commitment, and co-operation.
We have sacrificed and surrendered our AUTHENTIC selves in the quest to achieve a dream. When you speak of loss of independent thought, living and action, you are referring to our AUTOMATIC selves taking control in response to an unrealistic, unfit pursuit. Over the years we keep “investing” even though the “returns” never measure up. We stay the course. Eventually we wear out (rust out) and give up.
There is only ONE WAY forward. We have to RECLAIM our Humanity. How? It starts with each of us, right here right now, in our own circles (family/friends/work/school/church/community) – being our best AUTHENTIC selves in LIFE/LIVING in thought, word, and deed.
A shared PURPOSE is essential – and RECLAIMING OUR HUMANITY is a worthy VISION.
It would also be helpful to have a practical, tangible, actionable Roadmap. My long-time friend Charles Hugh Smith continues to lay the groundwork for such a plan. His new book will offer insight. In a personal note I received yesterday:
“…the better solution in my view would be for the people to take back their country. We both know it might already be too late for that, but I still hold out hope for a secular Great Transformation that is social rather than political, a refusal to go along with the status quo and an embrace of a positive degrowth future”.
A secular GREAT TRANSFORMATION that is social not political – reclaiming our humanity becomes a rallying point. The REFUSAL – clear lines drawn, taking a stand. The EMBRACE of a positive degrowth future which could include all kinds of exciting realignments.
Being Human means LIVING life: you have to put yourself out there in alignment with a meaningful VISION and PURPOSE. I believe we can do better. Some of us will RECLAIM our HUMANITY (our better selves) for the good of All. Every effort done with GREAT LOVE will bring GREAT LOVE in return. LOVE TRANSFORMS and TRANSCENDS.
