I honestly believe this is the beginning.I have been watching things …since the days of “the oil drum”commentaries” ,and even before,in the lead up to the y2k non-event.[Note;I know for a fact we would have already been in a “reset”era had a whole lot of money not been spent,,and lots of work been done…].

I spent a large amount of time, and my personal treasure trying to raise public awareness of Peak Oil…beating my head against the incomprehension, and the desperate desire for ignorance so many showed….until I realized a cold, hard fact.TPTB [the folks the politicians REALLY listen to for their marching orders] Know.THEY KNOW…everything.and they don’t really want you to know,as it might make it[you] quite a bit harder to deal with.

The public,a aware,a prepared, smart careful public…will eat “leaders” whom they have lost faith in.I can remember some debriefing material I found on Y2k response that chilled me.One of their premises was the worst citizen to “deal with” would be those whom had prepared for such a event.

[Note to self…never never use the term “prep”or id self as being aware of the next step down….its going to be a long one,”the one eyed man is not King”]

…..Seeing/Reading about the inability of our rulers to see the lessons of history, and of nature, due to their preoccupation with outmoded ,idiotic ideologies is becoming more difficult.[depressing]…the idea of being inundated with political ads for the next year makes me ill.

There are many whom believe the collapse of this system would lead to a better one,a freer, more democratic, pluralistic society. It could, but the powers that “are”,would do their best to strangle that child in its crib. There are many many whom any serious crack in the existing system [those will medical issues, for example]who will not long live in a serious depression/economic collapse.

This period Nicole has written about in the past.First ,we get a pretty good crash, followed by deflationary forces that destroy anything remaining. The excess production, and stockpiles in the chinese system ensure that cash will become king…for, awhile. At some point in the future, whomever is at the controls will become so desperate that radical measures will be taken, including actions that could so change the way of things …we may as well be in a different country/world.

That BIS,[the bankers bank]would make such a profound condemnation of the policies of the FED is way,way past startling to me …[it is a class 5 WTF]I don’t know why,but this action/basic statement from BIS spooks me more than the volatility..,and gives a true report on how grimly serious those in power disagree on the course the worlds financial ship should sail.

With 400 point swings in the markets daily,…china’s markets ready to dissolve into a pile of goo,and rampant deflation taking a firm grip on the throat of the economy,I would say another one “out of the park”,Nicole.

I need to say a quiet,”thank you” to you,Nicole Ilargi, and the folks I have met thru TAE.This site does a lot to keep me focused on things I need to be aware of.[I am much more inclined to lurk, rather than rant these days] .
I know that the evaluations, and “long game” scenarios Nicole has discussed over the years are spot on,and as far as I am concerned, being played out as we watch.I have used your advice in financial affairs, and in the way I have been building the liferaft

.Your ideas and understanding of the way of things…and the most probable ways the system will dissolve,is erudite, logical, and concise .My hope is the worst is 2-3 years out..All these years timeframe has been your bane, but only,I believe from your lack of understanding in how far TPTB will go to keep their grip on the reins of power.

Long rant…got “real stuff” to do

Merry Christmas from the pacific northwest,…[the land of wind and rain these days]…I thought to close the year, and start a new one… on the right foot with a update on the real state of the world…..

I have kept a low profile as of late. The world,as it is,is too prone to “hammer the nail that sticks up”as the japanese proverb goes.I spend my time adding logs to the liferaft, planting new perennial food plants, and trying to figure out a cost-efficient deep shelter I got a premonition that some time during my life, me and mine will need it.[will, not might].

There are times I am annoyed at the financial difficulties I encounter…Then I get a reality check from Ilargi…who shows me where WE will be.Soon.The Greek are a terrible visible reminder that those whom govern will ensure they and theirs will eat,and get the best medical care available…but really,Really don’t care about yours.

Case in point,to ensure we have decent insurance…Mrs snuffy is forgoing retirement another 16 months because she was outraged at the cost of my insurance. My wife is frugal to the max,and the thought of paying $1200 a month, just for me,with the 5 grand deductible, sent her into a small hot rage…

Our plan ,and timing is simple.Pay the place off, grow what we eat,and medicinal herbs, and ..whatever for cashflow…and continue to make our 3 acres the well-tended garden one needs to live well….

    Hi Ilargi..
I am still hoping for a few more years of relative calm before we start into the “interesting” part of the Phase-change/Power-down.The question seems to be whether the temporary periods of stability can lull the population into thinking “it will be alright IF”
Then the next downturn..things get worse..things sorta stabilize…Things are BAD now.The ones I know with money, most have their ass hanging way out on deals they would not have touched 5 years ago..The old skit of a clown with plates twirling on a stick comes to mind when I think of our “economy”now..
Nicole once said something about the reason she studied law was to understand how the few controlled the many[my paraphrasing].I think about that control structure now.How can you have a better life for those whom you care, when you are told by “the powers” that be”that this can never happen”..WHY? This incredible programing machine that is american”culture” has become an empty ideology ready for the scrapheap of history..best example I can see currently is the front runner of the business party …..Trump….(?)…VS…Bernie..(?)Proof positive BOTH the political machines are broken
It seems silly now.in the midst of the worst drought in MY memory,as native oregon,to say climate change is a myth…I have noticed a shift to saying the causality is not human induced…who knows?…my spring is getting temperamental, and I do not have the 2500 gal .”safety” tank installed yet.
This is the first year I have lost most of my early “desert” pears and I am grimly figuring the cost of upgrading my water supply to include agriculture…Loss of a crop of fruit is bad…but I worry about loss of trees now…This type of “ag-impact” has to go into the “Figure a Fix” file, regardless of how much of a pain in entails..I have some fixes…but lots of digging….lots and lots of digging…
I am immobile today due to some kind of food bug..[I made the mistake of eating what the grandkids ate on a excursion]

    Hi Nicole,
Its been awhile since I have posted…I have been working my tail off to get the liferaft as well-built as I can, with circumstance.

I have seen up-close and personal… deflation hitting.A Neighbor passed recently,[True WW2 war hero,..fighter pilot].He was also a incredible packrat, raised by depression -era family with no trust in any bank…He bought”stuff”…
I have just watch 25-30 trucks ,cars,boats,cranes,trailers…ect..turned into scrap metal…at a deep discount..because NO ONE wanted to mess with a older rig. This was ALL SOLD FOR SCRAP.I found several small treasures…a backhoe,on a small tractor,[needs repairs]…$1500..a hammer mill, old style …$200.a vast quantity of hardware, shackles, cables tools, high end good quality farm gear….for the price of scrap steel[$80/ton]..besides spare engines, garden carts, that were pretty much “Here, take it GET IT AWAY” …
    A lifetime accumulation of “Stuff”….torn up by a track-hoe&thumb….80$ a ton
I will see the same thing happen.. next door.. to his Best Friend..also WW2 vet.[He rode the shot-up ammo ship… out of Pearl Harbor] The man is 92,and sharp as a tack, and old-school tough…his relatives are trying to drag him away and loot his estate.[Their treatment of him makes me sorry to be of the same species]

I have kept to myself, and try not to let the little voice in the back of my head worry about the “when”…though I am praying for a few more good years before the darkness falls. The chinese situation has me very concerned as those whom think they are “masters of the universe”..or the members of the various elites…the parallel “Black budget” folks ect. don’t really know what a dragon will do when aroused…or frightened. They think ,with their intelligence pipelines, and real time monitoring, and predictive software..they do..Such Hubris…

I have too much work to do..got to head back to “my slave pit”….I have found,on my small orchard, nursery, apiary, farm,if I don’t do it,It dont get done.I hope life is good for you now,Nicole….I have to spend most of my time making things work…not posting/reading/thinking…I miss my discussions with you & ilargi

…This picture hits real close to home…
Note:one of the only truly terribly sad recollections my grandmother told me of her early teen years of marriage [@16 to a 28 year old] during the depression ,was that of her first child dying of starvation in a ‘soddy’ in oklahoma, where my grandfather had went to find work on a railroad job..no job… no money…no food.
When I first moved out on my own,I had a extra closet …which she promptly filled with food…telling me “Always have 6 months of food in your house..Always!”.
I have tried to follow that advise. It has proven wise….snuffy

It gets harder to post here now…I am so very busy trying to hammer out a viable liferaft that to take any time off to do something as mundane as a post …to even take the time to log in and post is hard…I have signed up for the second year of “queen-rearing”,seminar with one of the worlds top bee people, and all my beekeeping efforts are aimed at developing a local bee… that loves oregon.”Sideliner”bee guy, organic farming, living cheap and below the radar….
This morning was spent dropping 3 LARGE fir trees that had been a threat to the house since one had died three years back.I had some help from neighbors…but dropping trees 4′ across at the base,250 ft high is scary any way you cut it.The up side, lots and lots of dead-dry firewood, needles for the blueberry mulch, and once the ground gets a little harder, some nice logs to sell…and I and my wife will not worry about a monster tree coming down on the house the next wind storm.Downside…oh my god ..I am so tired of the sound of a chainsaw, and I am feeling every injury.my body ever had…and I have 3 more days worth of this hard-ass work ahead…ouch… Long hot shower, and sleeeep. Then git to it again….

    Hi Nicole,

Excellent explanation of what really happened in “the frozen land”…it is a true shame the new constitution was killed by special interests/apathy.
I imagine the next time it all blows up, the people will get more involved, that might include hanging the bankers instead of putting them in a nice civilized prison..giving a new meaning to a …”suspended sentence”….

Its funny,in a slightly frightening way,the more grim,hard-nosed, “rough talk” I have seen and heard on the various forums, news groups, and comment sections where I get my mental picture of “the state of things”.[Regardless of the fact, everyones comments, thoughts, and mental state is posted/recorded online for the whole worlds examination and evaluation].

Folks are broke, hungry, and pissed-off beyond words,at the political theater that passes for governing here in the USA.A good example is of their throwing 1.5 MILLION citizens under the bus so the congress could get home for THEIR Christmas holiday, without the knockdown-dragout they will have over extension of emergency unemployment benefits.
    No money for you…Merry Christmas.

For the most part,In the past,I really did not see that much talk that included serious discussion about that R word[revolt].That is changing
More ,and more,in the damnedest places,I see posts from normal, everyday folks who have come to the conclusion we no longer live in a country that has the best interest of the majority of the citizens at heart. TPTB own the rulemakers, and you don’t count,at all.Its like they have been listening, and taking to heart, everything old George Carlin had to say about “the way of things” and getting more and more angry about it.
Its not something you can see in a poll.
Its not something you can measure,
but it is something that exists, sure as you are seeing folks lose their pensions, and all hope of living the kind of life the propaganda [ they have seen all their lives]says they are due.TPTB seem oblivious to this groundswell of pure rage that is forming from the ones whom are the most solid,conservative..and “just folk” who have been hurt the worst by the games played by “the elite”. Every life that has been directly smashed,by these games, has been ‘observed’BY MANY OTHERS.The children, the friends…all those who watch and see what happens to those who have “Played by the Rules”They learn lessons that will take generations to unlearn…dont trust the .gov…dont trust the banks…dont trust your employer..This destruction of trust destroys a country from within.

Some one mentioned recently Frank Zappas comment about “one day they take down the curtain and you see the brick wall” . We are all seeing the brick wall now…many for the first time, and the reaction, the shock and disbelief is setting in.I expect to see anger and rage…soon… as people figure out just how badly they have been lied to.

I expect the loudest howls to come from the those who think ,incorrectly, they will be looked out after…the ones 3 steps down on the food chain whose political support has kept this machine going.Boy will they be in for a [unpleasant] surprise.

Keep you family close..as well as your wealth, and your friends.Things are coming that will test all those bonds.

    Hi Ilargi,

Its 18 degrees outside, and perfect weather to speak of the future….I do not see a lot of sunshine in our future, unless its the kind you see on a brilliantly crystal clear day that is so cold your spit freezes before it hits the ground. The kind of days that wise folks cut their work out of doors to ensuring the animals are safe, and plenty of wood is close at hand for the woodstove.

Your words remind me of another time and place where the future was a complete coin-toss….I mean the y2k non-event.The reason it was a non-event,[outside of spawning a number of profitable small, and not so small businesses] was that those in a position to affect the needed changes in the physical structure of our civilization…did so…pulled out the old white-haired geeks of a bygone era and fixed the code our banking structure and other systems needed to stay functional.

In my Heart-of-Hearts,I honestly doubt what we are facing now can be “fixed”as easily as that old code. The elite in this country very carefully built the political and judicial structure,we here in the USA live under, into a conservatives [plutocratic] dream. They spent 40 years and a lot of treasure making things the way they are,and will spend whatever it takes to keep things just as they are, with the countries wealth going to their “strong”hands..
This system has such a massive, intrusive politically set-in-concrete rigidity, true change is impossible.[Those who look at Obama and see a liberal are blind, the decisions his administration has made could have been made by Bush 2] .
What has been created has one intrinsic flaw, one characteristic that all such systems of control have,Its rigidity. The one ray of hope I see in this orwellian nightmare that has been oh-so-carefully built,is that strong/hard systems of any kind are “brittle”and subject to catastrophic failure when stressed.
We see the stresses building daily,…you see them,…the comment from a housewife at a store about the inability to feed a family…Another 1.5 million {!!!} thrown under the economic bus, unable to find work, and now unemployment money cut off.[There will be some seriously hurt people by that one].
I do not know what will come.I know there is a rage in the hearts of my fellow americans that was not there 20 years ago.People start to pay attention when things hurt, and they have hurt for a good long while now. They know who is hurting them, and i am expecting some ugly things to start sooner than later.

    Nice brain food…
The early Christian ethos made a stronger, more stable primary unit IE family/society…which replaced the Roman..by nurture, rather than nature..which was the base of Greek and Roman…
Who knows were we are headed?…It has occurred to me the smallest units in some ways can be the strongest….but now,we have seen the essential “atom-ization” of family structure here in the USA.[How many even know where extended family even lives?]

What has also come about, is one of society’s more interesting evolution’s that still has a way to go..I mean of course the self structuring, self evolving creatures of the web, such as TAE.

The web allows the self-strucure of ANY sort of community. One can think in terms of societies that are formed and reformed until the original members do not recognize why they are members[and leave,in droves]
Back in 1996-7 I was involved in a y2k discussion group on usenet …CSy2k…which evolved into a greenspun discussion board, which was [I thought]hijacked by someone who saw a money machine into its “present” form.

[never mind who, they are politically to the right of ghengis khan with a hard right christian bend.

I look at that whole time of my life as a real educational experience. It first set me to thinking just what the hell would I do in the event of a really serious emergency. That is when I chose to live out in the sticks,as far as employment would let me,and started planting fruit trees.I am still out in the sticks, planting fruit trees 20 years later…and keeping bees…and living what I have always thought, how one should live.

In most cases I have seen,self-organised communities failed the longevity test when the things that caused their formation changed…or the person[‘s] with the “charismatic factor”died,or were otherwise unable to hold the myriad strings of a community together.
It is my belief that the strongest communities we will see develop in our future,may/will be the ones that form under duress, with the personal schisms of unhappy relationships sublimated by the very real threats that will exist from surrounding environments.
This will be the real “society-building”

    Depopulation…

Yes,there was a reason I did not “pee in the gene pool”,I have always figured there would always be children who needed schooling by a elder in my life…and there always has been.My stepdaughter was bright enough to jettison a dead-weight husband…but not before 2 kids made a appearance…and I have been ask to fill in as male role model ect..Now,their future is a concern of mine.I cannot change whats coming, but I can start to teach, what I know to two, who,Hopefully won’t get the scar tissue I gained with lessons learned.

My guess would be biological agents of some kind, with a twisty way to ensure “their control”…but I could be wrong.

It may turn out just someone who wants to send us back to the stone age…or let another species have a shot at use of this plant.

It takes less than 200k cash, and a smart graduate student to make effective biological agents. How they are spread, the vectors, the lethality….this has been my darkest fear for a long time….as there is no “safe”place in a plague.

I think the way we may see the depopulation is a variation of whats going on now…..collapse the system, slowly,[a controlled demolition],and the death toll starts to rise…collapse it into a economic nightmare for the masses…with tight military control of essential infrastructure, and let the plebs kill each other over a crust of bread…while those at the top stay in heavily fortified safe zones, while the “excess” population starves. A war cutting oil supplies to the rest of the world would fit the bill nicely….[Did I mention Iran?]

Your account reminds me of a “Explanation of the way of things.”by a “for real” spook I ran into on-line a bunch of years ago.[I only made the connection that he was for real after the events of the outing of Valori Plame…He had mentioned almost in passing,of her cover company being a front for Langley…funny, what you used to run into online 15-20 years ago…[!].

Anyway, the gist of the discussion was how each society”resets” itself in such a way to allow for the advancement of the human animal as a whole, how does the cream rise in a static, conservative,class-oriented/dominated society?…[He said that a major topic that had confounded many of the elite who had studied the matter]How can you maintain control of resource base for “the right sort”,when, the very bright, motivated and most able of the society are from there other side?.Backing a revolution was one way…

War,as a method, was discussed as simply a way of shaking up the status quo,so to speak…a shaking of the dice by those who wield true power…to see how the new methods and ideas can shape the reality [we,the great un-washed masses] all live in…a game,by those who can cause such events.Read carefully the accounts of the second world war and you can guess the unseen players by their shadows.

The most telling thing I remember of that discussion, was the realization that …TOTAL WAR…Like WW2,was never going to happen again….because the elites realized That nuclear weapons,if used widely, would most likely smoke them too,and end the game for everyone…..Low level brushfire wars over resource control are “acceptable”.

The last few years have seen a upsurge of “Diplomacy by other means”…resulting in side effects that we all are noticing.Things like the militarization of the police. The human wreckage…the horrible cost to the occupier and the occupied…is”acceptable”.

I cannot help but wonder ,as the drones begin to fill our own skies, how much collateral damage will become “acceptable”.

If you look at the “Modern” history of the world, you see war and famine, revolution, anarchy and chaos, hitting just about everywhere, when the elite’s children lose touch with their poor cousins, and forget hunger…Then maybe someone, a ways up the food chain, sees there is no chance for their own advancement, unless a whole bunch of the top dogs lose their share.Revolutions are rarely started by the desperately poor[they are busy trying to stay alive],but someone who thinks that they know where a lever is that can move the mountain that is a society.

They might have stamped out the hot little spark that was “Occupies”but even so,the huge,fire-suppressed pile of tinder is still there, still waiting patiently, for the next hot little spark.[I recall it took 4-5 years before the ‘nam demonstrations really got legs]

I watch the jockeying, and moment, statements, and such,of the politicians…the deadening reality that “is” for those still seeking some kind of life for themselves, after the disintegrating economy grinds them up and disposes of their job,and their life…and wonder.

    How long have we got?…

I have the gut-feeling that we are close to some kind of inflection point,a place we can say”It.Changed.Here”.

Couple of things on the horizon, coming closer, I think.

I have noticed,War,as a method of determining the outcome of American overseas policy,is a slow to start…then terrifyingly fast, once the orders are given.No-one is paying much attention to Iran right now,as the most bellicose mouths have been silenced, more or less..but the quiet preparations for a major confrontation with the USA have been made..”legal” declarations by their parliament of the intent to close the Straits of Hormuz, due to outside influences,as well as other “players”in the area, moving in to position,”Assets”.Some in public…and I imagine some very quietly.

Very little would be needed to set the whole area aflame, with Israels focused on turning Iran’s society back 200 years technology-wise,and removing the most creditable threat to their total military control, and our desire to nip off the bottom 1/10th of the their territory next to Iraq [Where the oil is].

I am hoping it stays quiet till after the elections,as I don’t think O-man wants to try and defend himself from the charge of provoking a war to ensure his re-election…Which I am sure The repugs would make….

But I am sure that would be a great cover for the huge “Reset””The system” is getting redey for

As far as the bank fraudsters…

All those who say that its too difficult to get your [substantial]assets in a “safe”place…

Take heart. You wont have to worry much longer about them as they will disappear in a cloud of electrons…soon

Buy “things” of true value. A farm w/water& gear.Gold, silver,Cash…seedbanks…BIG propane tanks topped off w/cars& generators, and tools-equipt designed for off-grid.What would 2000 ,340watt solar panels be worth after a collapse?Your life?Your families life?If you have the power, guess what?you ARE the power in your community. And that is the real focus you must aim for…how can you provide for your community, because its those folks who look out after their own ,in a community, that will prosper in the future

Yes,its a pain to do the paperwork.Be careful, but if you want to keep you stash, you had better get your ass[ets] under your direct control Now,boys and girls. The system still works now..you can get on a phone and order whatever you think will do you and your tribe “Good” now.Next month?who knows…your starting to see lots of big names[Knight ring a bell?] getting taken out back and shot now…

I think its time to head back outside and start watering the gardens, there is always things I should be doing in sweet summer weather.

    One more for the books…

I have been in my own little world, fishing, working on trying teaching a 12 year old,all the manly things a absent father should…when this weird one comes out of school and goes sideways…

I have heard all the anti-firearm ones start to chant for more gun control…..

I have heard all the firearm folk spewing the anti-Obama rhetoric about taking away firearms

…..[Really,they so soon forget what happened the last time, when the Assault-Weapon Bancost the dems power for 20 years, and changed not a single thing]….

Politicians remember those sort of things.O-man will do some kind of control but not until after the election, and not unless he sweeps both houses.

This will sound a little cold and hard, but this young man was very, very, bright [you are not a student where he was w/o some serious mental horsepower] …he chose firearms as a way to self-destruct.

We should be happy he did,and not use some easily obtainable things, like nerve chemicals or explosive gases,or[god-forbid]Re-combined DNA tinker-toys to take out a city,or a half a state.

Wait to see the copy-cat nutcakes who will follow.

We live in a psychotic society who rewards, and glorifies, the very worst type of behaviors. The competitive bloodlust, used and magnified,is what drives large portions of american society business, entertainment ect… [think high level business of all type]When you hit a certain level…that’s the way the game is played…everyone else is prey.If you don’t want to cut your competitors heart out and eat it raw,[with a little salt for flavor]your not serious about the game.It permeates our society…the lone wolf, who comes into town and cleans house…

I worry more about when the limited self-imposed restraints we use to live together in this society are seriously weakened,or gone, just how far south will the majority go…and how many will ” Hoist the Jolly Rodger and start slitting throats”…as the saying goes.More than many dream, I fear….wanting to be the hero in their own apocalyptic film.

I have no answers..So much of it is all sick and twisted now. I am bright enough to know the less I interact with society, the less chance I have of meeting one of the sick puppies that seem to be filling the screens we view society by…

    Mrawlings,

I can think of a number of things that will ‘get the attention’of those who are living a “Normality Bias”…but most of them occur at the same time their world is crashing down around their ears…starvation, lawless thugs[besides the police],fuel shortages…all of these “experiences”will educate anyone with 2 brain cells working in tandem, regardless of religious conviction, that all is not well with their happy world.

But it takes a hellava shock to wake some folks…

I have heard/reviewed the arguments about gold for a good while, and I had a large investment at one time…but I have also heard many many stories of trades made during times of duress that caused me to lean to seed, beans and tools…and a quiet place to live.I do not believe gold would be the best way to make your way through hazardous times,as there is always encounters with thieves, official, and otherwise, and loss by other means.Best,to me,is a mix of possibilities. The more options you have, the better chance to succeed

Its interesting to listen to one who has been in a collapse,or two…and lived to tell the tale. This post reminds me of ferfal from Argentina, but his take is much more security-oriented. Building community is the key,as far as I can see,but that take time we all might not have.Things appear to be cracking around the edges as we speak .

    skipbreakfast,

What you said about the mortgage really rings a bell w/me.Mrs snuffy and I have had a month-long conversation about a job I need to have done and do NOT want to do…involving 1 very large a half dead maple, and one way way way big maple that threatens my neighbors shop, and my “new” orchard. 2 very large trees that need to come down.

My big saw died a while back and I only have a 14 inch bar sthil, that, while it is a nice saw,is not what you want for this project.I have a nice bid from a logger that will include cutting to firewood size….but Mama snuffy and I REALLY had to think about weather it is worth getting it done now…which will mean credit use.

We decided to sell a 85 tercel 4wd wagon and its part car to repay THE FUNDS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.but to do this as it means 20+ cords of maple… stacked… and that is one form of treasure.

I recognize the tie that our highly-processed food has with corn & derivatives,A couple 3 of films out..King corn,Food Inc, and Forks over Knives have clued me in..as well as some of the discussions were have had here at TAE.
What I think will smooth out the kinks your referring to will be the price of meat skyrocketing[as well as feed]and the importation of a lot of stuff from overseas….folks are always shocked silly at how much food we import from China ,Mexico, and points south.

There will be more empty bellies somewhere…but I very much doubt here.

    That is the best response I have seen to this labor discussion,Noel.I follow the same practice when working in my garden here in Oregon{the sun finally came out last week,its been working overtime in the rest of the nation but here….not so much.}

I am sorry to here about your neighbor,Greenpa.Farming is tough, and I have seen my own work take a serious hit with the bees when I ran into the effects of systemic poison from almond growers who wanted that last 2-3%of the crop…and didn’t give a jolly god-damn about the bee-keepers,whose bees were destroyed by their efforts.

Monbiot’s flip on nukes is telling…as was pointed out, little mention of risk, ect., seemed to enter his mind when he called to muzzle Friends of the Earths objections to expansion of that industry.Interesting…will he be willing to live next to one?

Nicole,as always,I find your analysis concise, relevant, and directly to the point. Were all the imputs into our civilization not so mind-disturbingly complex and intertwined, were we actually rational animals, rather than rationalizing animals, after the first few collapses we would have figured out how to quit the boom and bust cycle. As our collective behavior seems to be closer to yeast in a pertri dish,I see a rocky conclusion to this financial/energy-dense party we have been on.

The costs of this last bit of “the party” seems all out of proportion to the benefit.A trashed political system, Obscene amounts of wealth for a very few…and a generation promised the world..and given ashes.

I see a lot of truth in this post…but then after awhile,we all get somewhat “ho-hum”about the increase in danger to the world financial system. The brinkmanship of all parties involved has made me understand that there will be no really radical change until something so massive happens that it cannot be talked away…and HURTS J.Q.Public,here in the USA bad, bad, bad.
The mortgage crisis has been played to keep it a “individual”bad luck story, instead of massive Fraud by the banksters…which would require action by the administration and TPTB.
    It has occurred to me that the actions against the attorney general might be the first shots,and start of some real fireworks by the administrations who have quietly built some airtight cases against the”lower” “powers that be” for political benefit this election year.{yes,is my conspiracy theory heart beating overtime,….but I can dream;) }

It is also a fact that any one who spends substantial time paying attention to…what we see coming…will get “collapse fatigue”eventually,as we see the society we each live in take blow-after-blow from the economic shocks that have/are occurring.
Its like watching a fighter, bleeding and weary take kicks and punches that should drop him..but training and will keep him on his feet.In our case however, the fighters “will”is the same as a heavy drug dose[Injections of funny money]that keep him moving despite damage that could/can/will kill him. When he goes down, the damage done may/will be terminal.

    And everyone,deep-down,[in power], knows this.

This is why we have many, many people doing their dead-level best to stitch, glue, bailing wire,duct-tape this weird “economy”together….at least past the elections.I think that whatever is going to happen here will be postpone past Nov.unless events in Europe basically cause the fall/destruction of the trading houses here in such a way that precludes papering over their losses [at least from the public]…for a while.Who know what happens then.I have a very sharp brother who thinks/is of the opinion, that while we will have some bad shocks, the system as a whole should/will rattle along for the next few years, for this same reason
    ………………………………………………………………………….

A big article in the local paper…a soon-to-be decommissioned aircraft carrier is now going to be parked here in Oregon,in the middle of no-where[Why put a aircraft carrier in Troutdale Ore?]…were I wearing my conspiratorial obligatory tinfoil….I would wonder why is a mountain of firepower…still fully functional…is here…forever.I guess I will file that under things that make you go Hmmmm.

I wonder if Romney “job”,is what he did at Bain capital…cutting up the USA “productive assets”..SSN,the military industrial complex,National Park land ,federal land, ,ect.and selling them to the highest bidder buddies of his…Just a thought.

I saw,a long while back, the result of “being right”.Nicole had warned of the last down-turn in the economy…the one where most folks lost most of their “401k”gambling money…which I had broadcast loud and long.

I had switched to bonds & treasury’s..and lost not a dime.

No,I was not a hero at that company…

I stopped talking to most folks about the coming chaos…as its pointless, and downright dangerous. All those who matter to me know how I feel.I have little to gain by being “one who saw it coming”as the next thought is how did you prepare..and can I have some?.

I have figured out what I consider to be moral way of dealing with whats coming.I am,out of my own pocket..[which trust me is not deep at all] to try and put together a seed bank that might help to feed my neighbors when it gets strange.
Just a freezer with seed, and a sincere hope never to have to use it.

I cant change the world,or whats coming, but if I improve my corner a bit I can know in my heart I have done what I could to help those around me.
