Since you’re covering Sodom and Gomorrah, here’s the official reason for it:

“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, fat and full of bread, unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things…”Ezekiel 16:49-50

    Sound familiar?

And for kicks, what is the grave sin of the Whore of Babylon?
10″Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:”
17 For in one hour such great riches is come to nought…
23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; … for your merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations (ethnos) were deceived by your sorcery (pharmakeia).”
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.”
    Revelation 10-24:23

So what have we here? International trade, to the point of unfeeling greed and decadence, along with killing the whistleblowers, those who would warn you, tell you what you are doing is wrong, there are rules and limits, while they are killing the Godly and good people who help others, killing immigrants and foreigners. And “Sorcery,” “pharmakeia,” which means huge lies and public illusions? Or does it mean “pharmacy”, the international drug running with volumes so large, as reported by the U.N., that they have supported the entire western banking system for over a decade killing millions in Leeds, Sonora, and Ohio? And with that hundred-billion drug running supporting international arms trafficking and the subsequent multi-million death toll, the “death of all”? Maybe supporting that, in Afghanistan, in Syria, in Sudan and Libya was the crime of New Babylon?

And what happens to nations who behave like that? Well, similar to Sodom, “a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.” That is, they ultimately are nuked from space and destroyed in a single hour if that’s what it takes.

But hey, that’s all academic, just some old paintings and stories that has nothing to do with us, right?

Bonus question: is it an actual angel? Or like Nebuchadnezzar, can it be a person or nation simply doing the will of God to stop a madness that has gone too far?

Our present reality (we in the west) is upside down, in the most genuine sense. It’s Orwell’s 1984 in our face.
I think we’ve arrived here: “WAR IS PEACE,” “FREEDOM IS SLAVERY,” “IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.” George Orwell’s vision of the future? The future is a boot smashing a human face forever.
In real time Rex Tillerson reported a planned attack on Syria for using “gas” in an attack; then finishes by saying he has seen no proof of said “gas” attack. WTF???
The U.S. is left with a corporate media spewing out the same garbage hand fed to them by government agencies; you’re not getting “news”; you’re getting ministry of information propaganda.
Ilargi runs the numbers and graphs of a manipulated, rigged, fake, not free, market.

    You beat me to it!
    Here is my longer explanation

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodom_and_Gomorrah
The story of the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah is told in Genesis 18–19

    also
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lot%27s_wife

Another view in the Jewish exegesis of Genesis 19:26, is that when Lot’s wife looked back, she turned to a pillar of salt upon the sight of God who was descending down to rain destruction upon Sodom and Gomorrah.

There are other stories that are told.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleansing_of_the_Temple

The narrative occurs near the end of the Synoptic Gospels (at Matthew 21:12–17, Mark 11:15–19, and Luke 19:45–48) and near the start in the Gospel of John (at John 2:13–16). Some scholars believe that these refer to two separate incidents, given that the Gospel of John also includes more than one Passover.[4]

No matter how many societies have benn recorded as being destroyed, we do not listen and keep repeating the same mistakes.

Will future generations change their way when they hear the stories of the destructions of our existing social/economic systems?

    Naw!
    We are slow learners.

    Bullies and victimes cannot change.

    or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scorpion_and_the_Frog

A scorpion asks a frog to carry it across a river. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung, but the scorpion argues that if it did so, they would both drown. Considering this, the frog agrees, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When the frog asks the scorpion why, the scorpion replies that it was in its nature to do so.

“Very sad to see Turkey going down the road to becoming yet another Islamic Tyranny and to think that, after the collapse of their empire they were determined to become and remain secular. This business with Greece is not entirely new from them but, carrying with it the additional stench of religious supremacy, is now a far bigger concern given the bloody history of Islam. They’ve already destroyed any chance of greater integration with Europe, with the vile attacks on the long suffering Kurds, their membership of NATO must be under question”

This is an interesting perspective. I am pretty sure the Huffington Post was not quite so heated up when Turkey – under the auspices of the USA / NATO / Saudi Arabia / Qatar / UAE etc trained, equipped and sent over the border terrorist organisations – ISIS, al-Nusra etc. – to invade neighbouring Syria and Iraq.

Let’s not forget that with the help of the USA, ISIS occupied Mosul in one day. That could only have been achieved without the connivance of the USAF and US intelligence which confused the defenders with fake orders and fake reports. I mean, that is child’s play when you control all the telecommunications of the defending Iraqis.

“Isis insurgents seize control of Iraqi city of Mosul”

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/10/iraq-sunni-insurgents-islamic-militants-seize-control-mosul

In contrast it took the US, Iraqi army and Iraqi militia 8 months to get ISIS out of the place – and the place was flattened. Of course, the US did its best to delay this process and granted safe passage of ISIS into Syria so as to try and prevent the Syrian army from relieving their encircled troops at Deir az-Zour. These troops were trapped for 3 years and the USAF did bombard them on one occasion – an attack synchronised with a simultaneous attack by ISIS.

The only people being fooled by the lies of the media of the West is its target audience. No one outside this Zionist-controlled media bubble is fooled by it. The perfidy of the USA is even more amazing than the naivety of you dear David George

Nice bit of whataboutism but hardly relevant to the post yesterday re Turkish sabre rattling towards Greece, Nassim. Of course the whole things a “Zionist” conspiracy. Right!

No George. Israel is a nice peaceful place that never tries to get the USA to attack and demolish its neighbours. 🙂

US foreign policy is totally independent and not at all subject to influence by the Israel lobby. It is designed solely to further the interests of US citizens.

“Benjamin Netanyahu Speech to Congress 2015”

Just watch the congressmen clapping like crazy – each of them afraid to stop before the others. Does it not remind you of Stalin when he was on top. They should install a bell so that the congressmen know when to stop.

    “Stalin receives a standing ovation”

I suggest that the USA gets its troops out of Syria. They are sitting ducks and all their plans have failed dismally. Plenty of Kurds were in ISIS – and now they call themselves YPG or whatever. It is all BS.

This article suggests that since the Israelis and Americans have been thoroughly humiliated in Syria, they are trying to “kill Russians”

It is a bit pathetic since the US has a string of indefensible bases in Syria that need be supplied by air. Sooner or later, they are going to be squeezed out. The real question is whether the Russians and Iranians are going to retaliate or not. I suspect that if a few thousand Americans were killed overnight, the public back home might decide that Israel should not be in control of US foreign policy. It is a very dangerous game and might get out of control. The Europeans have been moving away from the USA’s position regarding Iran for some time now. The US seems to have fewer allies each year.

So that’s what this is about, a reasonable discussion about Turkish aggression is just an excuse for you to hijack the discussion to vent your idiotic antisemitic ravings.
I don’t believe the Jewish people will ever back down, surrounded as they are by people that have vowed to kill them for who they are. They only have to look at the terrified remnants of every other minority group in the Middle East to know what fate awaits them if they do.

Wow this is kind of insulting to AE readers; sounds like a post by an AIPAC troll. Nobody with any smarts who has lived an observant long life in the US does not resent the censorship imposed upon truthful US policy discourse by the highly conspiratorial Israel lobby and its minions in the media, financial system and Federal administrative bureaucracy. I thought we were well past the stage when any legitimate criticism of anything remotely Jewish could be branded as “anti-Semitism”. Such notions are key elements of Zioglobalist suprematist mind control and need to be exposed for the damage they have inflicted upon the USA and other parts of the world. Believe it or not, DG, most Americans, including good assimilated Jews, are not supportive of being robbed of blood and wealth to support the apartheid behavior and global power aspirations of the state of Israel.

Thanks, you said it better than I would have.
For the most part, we here at TAE have a pretty good handle on the real world; not the idealogical nightmare created by idealogues…
