[See the full post at: Debt Rattle July 20 2018]Dark days indeed. My heart goes out to Assange, but, what most don’t understand; it’s the end of their last remaining freedoms as well. Assange is a powerful symbol of the death of truth in the west.
I live in a land ruled by a military junta; and I’m far more free than living in the U.S., and you can bank that!
The Nation newspaper’s cartoonist Steph runs some dagger-to-the-heart cartoons about the junta and its leaders. He was warned; stopped for one day; and then resumed. That was more than 6 months ago; The junts’a limits were understood.
Politically, Thais are a volatile lot and will only take so much; and then it’s to the streets (which was duly covered by Int’l news).
Some stark differences; rarely see police. When dealing with them, they are smiles and not hostile.
I almost never hear sirens and when I do, it’s probably an ambulance.
Day to day life is virtually stress free…As the worm turns; Russia dumped all $100 billion in U.S. Treasuries in the last 2 months.
Their holdings are now zero.
I had said 85% yesterday; happily, I was wrong…As it dumps Treasury’s, Russia is going for gold.Which happens to be at its lowest vs the USD in a year. It’s not that strange for Trump to say he has doubts about rate hikes and a stronger dollar (innocent comments despite more manufactured hysteria). But that doesn’t mean either he nor Powell can do much about it. Want a strong economy? You’ll get a strong currency. Just the best looking horsey in the glue factory, but still.

I can’t say I understand the full ramifications of Russia’s dumping; but independence must surely be one aspect.
Sovereignty is utmost for Russia.
Russia has made no secret of its aquisition of gold; China likewise. Many times many tons each, per month.
The plethora of articles stating flat out that Russia’s economy is flagging and in major trouble are just ludicrous examples of western propagandistic bullshit; ignorance gone very low…
Russia probably has one of the healthiest economies on the planet.
On another note; 15,000 white South African’s are looking to relocate to Russia.
And Russia appears to be saying okay. That’s a pretty big population boost in one shot.
Makes up for a lot of grown-up babies… 😉It would turn leaks and whistleblowing into treason.
Something very close to this has on the verge of taking place in benighted Australia. Proposed National Security legislation creates many new crimes punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment. ‘National security’ is defined so broadly that practically any criticism of Australia’s foreign policy could be deemed an espionage offense.
It’s really all about insulating the elites from the consequences of their own actions and ensuring their wealth skimming continues unhindered. Even the “Opposition” supports it. Told to do so, I guess.
