It’s not often that I agree with, or even bother with, anything mainstream. But this, apart from the glorification of Churchill, is noteworthy:

We are entering a period of consequences’

Where on the spectrum from tragedy to farce are we when we see the same images of upturned cars floating in floodwaters, of desperate people awaiting rescue on rooftops, in so many cities around the world?

Comment: In 1936, as Hitler’s Germany geared up for war, Winston Churchill railed against the comparatively poor state of the British military.

“The era of procrastination, of half measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to its close. In its place, we are entering a period of consequences,” he said in a fiery speech in Parliament.

Of course, at this time, Europe was not yet on the eve of war. Still, Churchill had the foresight to warn against what was to come.

James Shaw invoked that same phrase in Parliament on Tuesday, describing the devastating Cyclone Gabrielle as “an even more significant challenge” than the Auckland floods, which were themselves at the time “our worst climate-related disaster in this country”.

He’s not the first person to call up Churchill’s prescient warning and apply it to this century’s “gathering storm” either.

In An Inconvenient Truth in 2006, former US Vice President Al Gore quoted Churchill’s foreboding prediction of “a period of consequences”.

How are we still reaching for the same metaphors to describe the same problem? Why does it feel like so little has changed?

In the documentary, Gore turns to Churchill after describing the ways in which climate change will make hurricanes – the Atlantic version of cyclones – more intense. He points to Hurricane Katrina, which killed more than 1000 people and turned into the costliest-ever tropical storm.

“There had been warnings that hurricanes would get stronger. There were warnings that this hurricane, days before it hit, would breach the levies and cause the kind of damage that it ultimately did cause. And one question that we, as a people, need to decide is how we react when we hear warnings from the leading scientists in the world,” Gore said.

Cyclone Gabrielle wasn’t a surprise either. And while we were as prepared as we could be for its landfall, we are not prepared for the progression of ever more intense and ever more frequent tropical storms which will come in its wake over the coming years and decades.

Karl Marx wrote, paraphrasing Hegel, that history repeats itself, “the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce”. But what about the third time? The fourth or fifth? Where on the spectrum from tragedy to farce are we when we see the same images of upturned cars floating in floodwaters, of desperate people awaiting rescue on rooftops, in so many cities all around the world?

We are in a period of consequences precisely because we have ignored decades of warnings about the impact of burning fossil fuels and the need to prepare our societies for a changing climate.

More than 30 years ago, the world committed to act on climate change. In the intervening time, annual global emissions have risen 60 percent.

New Zealand isn’t exempt from this problem. Our emissions are a third higher than they were in 1990.

At the same time, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reported last year “gaps exist between current levels of adaptation and levels needed to respond to impacts and reduce climate risks”.

We have done nothing to get at the root cause of climate change and done far too little to protect against its effects.

People on Twitter have a shorter, more vulgar summary of Churchill’s quote: F**k around and find out.

Right now, we’re in the “find out” stage.

This isn’t to say that every individual bears responsibility for the devastation of the cyclone, or the litany of climate catastrophes that have played out both here and abroad in recent years.

The climate crisis is a systemic problem, not an individual one. The “procrastination, the half measures, the soothing and baffling expedients, the delays” are the fault of those with the power to stop the pollution: Fossil fuel companies, their corporate clients and the politicians who have failed to rein them in.

These companies are continuing to make record profits by knowingly selling us the very thing that makes events like Gabrielle so much more likely and so much more extreme. They knew their products were poisoning the atmosphere as early as 1959 and they lied about it. Now, they pretend to support green solutions but leap at the chance to increase production of fossil fuels when the opportunity arises.

When we look at the ruin left in Gabrielle’s wake, we should know it isn’t simply the result of a capricious and arbitrary weather system. That’s part of it, but an added edge of intensity is the result of conscious choices by people who have the power to act but choose not to.

The question is, did the people consciously choose not to act to protect communities, or were they told not to act to protect communities by higher ‘authority’ of the cabal of international bankers and corporations and those who control those institutions?

One thing is certain, everything will continue to be made worse by the managers of the various Airstrips that comprise Oceania, on the instructions of Big Brother.

Russia will never have any security as long as Oceania is run by totalitarian fascists. And nor will the Proles of Oceania have any security as long as Oceania is run by totalitarian fascists.

We are witnessing the final battle between good and evil. And evil -which in complete control of the so-called governments of Oceania- has a lot of cards to play before it is defeated. There won’t be much left at the end of it all.

Lies, censorship, fabrications. Fabrications, lies, censorship. Mind control, servitude, tyranny. Tyranny, servitude, mind control.

I know I am guilty of Thoughtcrime because I see through the Doublespeak of Big Brother and The Party.

When Do The Giant Ants Show Up On Fremont Street In Las Vegas? (Kunstler)

At this point everyone, not just the Chinese, should be Trolling the Empire of Lies with balloons of all shapes and sizes.

Start out with polyhedrons, different colors at first, then different colors for different facets.

    .

Once you’ve exhausted the polyhedrons, go in for the trolling killshot with Macy’s Parade Balloons.

I’m absolutely convinced the Empire of Lies Sheeple will buy those balloons entering our air space as proof positive of an Alien Invasion Force

I’m not kidding, a very large portion of the public will run in panic mode into the corners and smother each other like domesticate turkeys do at the sound of a truck back firing.

    BoogaBoogaBoogaBoogaBoogaBooga!

    The Chinese will die laughing!

kultsommer – the Kunstler post is in today’s Automatic Earth roundup. I quoted it and responded to it. I think it’s rather direct, what I am saying and consistent with what I’ve said here in the past.

Why would you take a very clear quote, a clear statement paired with a very clear statement in a video and accuse me of being oblique? I’m saying exactly what I am saying.

Well, then, how about some dioxin?

I guess they got tired of blowing up food distributors. I wonder how much farmland Gates owns in this area? Checked it (well, goggled it), and he owns about 9000 acres in Ohio.

Turbo turbo cancers on the way.

My response to this from yesterday.

‘The EPA, regulators, etc exist to protect the COMPANIES, so they can be MORE destructive of the people and environment than would otherwise be legally possible.’

The Empire of Lies uses fake laws and fake institutions to prevent ordinary folk looting and polluting the environment whilst facilitating the looting and polluting of the environment by corporations and exclusive members of the Looters and Polluters Club.

It’s all an Orwellian rigged game. That’s why it’s called ‘freedom and democracy’, ‘environmental protection’, clean and green’, ‘sustainable development’ etc.

Geochemistry trumps ideology and rigged games every time. So do the laws of mathematics, the laws of physics and the laws of ecology.

The controllers of Oceania have a toolbox that contains only rigged games, propaganda, censorship, blatant lies and brute force.

@MPSK – turbo cancers are a feature not a bug, right? Seems like this could be used to explain the cancer spike from Vaxx, plus disrupt the supply chain again (will they outlaw all chemicals being moved by rail?) and it disrupts the food chain as all livestock and crops will be deemed unfit for human consumption.

    My apology first. .
Your post came after mine and “sounded” what it may be reply to my question (based on your previous stances on the subject). I also made a disclaimer of possibility that it may not be such.
Yet my very simple question(s) still lingers on unanswered. I enjoy posting on sites related to design, architecture and art, staff that truly maters to me since when it comes to anything visual I know the shit. Believe me, I visit this site and some other, with occasional comment here and there just to discover what is behind the insane thinking that US is overrun by the communists. My decade long quest is still unanswered for the reasons that I’ve already stated.

Kultsummer, I’m not sure what you’re saying with jb-hb, I think it’s that all the people who say they are Socialists and all the nations widely considered “Socialist” in history aren’t “Real” Socialists; today’s version of “We never really tried Communism.” If so, please make the argument and I look forward to it. There’s something about it that I don’t understand and is not yet settled or complete.

“In the documentary, Gore turns to Churchill after describing the ways in which climate change will make hurricanes – the Atlantic version of cyclones – more intense.”

Just before we had no hurricanes in the U.S. for 10 years in a row. And they have in general been milder, although that’s hard to quantify. Like “Life years” left for a population, you might have to count maybe wind mph x # incidence.

Absolutely the lack of seriousness and preparedness gets worse every waking hour. Which is ridiculous to begin with, more with ever-higher taxes and intervention, but especially and exclusively if anyone believes in Global Warming. It tells me the don’t believe a word they’re saying.

did the people consciously choose not to act to protect communities,”

They were told that being a “community” is an unmitigated act of oppression and hate, therefore all communities must be destroyed, and all people who believe in them, ridiculed and abused as close-minded backward rubes. “Community” now means being the community of Nike wearers, Twitter followers, and Bezos suck-ups. Never, ever, ever family, locality, interest, ethnicity, or belief.

Therefore there are no communities to speak of anymore. Because being a “Community” by definition means there is somebody IN them, and therefore somebody outside them. But we are “inclusive”, no one can ever be “outside” of any community, ever, you hateful bigot.

Since things that are everybody’s job are nobody’s job. Things that are owned by everyone are owned by no one.

Now why would you protect a thing that doesn’t exist? They’ll be happy to let you on your own dime, steal all your input and effort, laugh, call you and idiot and kick you in the pants. It took 40 years, but “The Community”, that is, “The People” finally got the message. Mission Accomplished. Now with no trust, no consequences, why WOULD I protect “The Community” that exists to extract and abuse me, its members?

So there you are. It’s not complicated. Everybody takes, nobody gives, no rules and no consequences, golly it’s like Socialism all over again.

You want it back, there are rules and punishments. Hard work and no slackers. No free ride. No robbing the till for your little programs.

For Ohio, I totally forgot! Not only are there zero environmentalists who care, zero protests, zero AOC, but this is all a UNION issue. The Rail Union was just on strike, remember? Like zero workers exist, can’t get a raise, no company will hire even up to SAFE levels, to say nothing of getting work done. NOT ONLY THAT, but when that story hit the public, nobody cared. Left, now not pro-worker, pro-Union, demonstrated they are firmly ANTI-Union and ANTI-worker. Couldn’t get traction, even though their situation was AMAZING, like Rail Barons of 1901 abusive. Like “You work 24h, get 30 minutes sleep, we put the engineer in the bus and make him work another 24h while he has Covid” I-cannot-think-of-a-way-to-make-this-unsafer type bad.

WHEN that came out and the Left didn’t care, BIDEN HIMSELF outlawed the strike. As the rail workers have an exclusive carve-out in the law – totally illegal – that applies only to them. They are Legally not allowed to quit. He doubled up on that. Essential, human slavery, to rounding cheers.

And THEN a trail derails. Golly, gee gee willikers, could that have something to do with the total and complete lack of workers as everyone quit and nobody’s doing a lick of rail maintenance? Thanks to general policies, but also the whole DNC and Biden personally?

There’s yet more, but let’s stop there.

What can we do? Do our own best to create our own future. For us, our Community, whoever that may need to be, and the planet. Not “somebody else”, not “the corporations’ – they only exist to sell stuff to YOU, not “the powerful people”, YOU. Which I do, as a small thing, but a number of small things end up being as endless beaches of sand, whole continents of people and purpose. Us.

They say that won’t work, while we’re doing it, while what they’re saying will work, giving power and attention to others, hasn’t succeeded once in 50 years.

Leave the socialist countries alone. It’s over. THAT SYSTEM IS DONE, decades ago.

The socialist governments showed us that we will always eventually suffer if we trust government, trust an organisation that has too much authority and power among the population being ruled. They also taught us how the manipulative government will persuade and control the population. For example, the government tightly controls the medical industry, doctors most of all, ensuring that the population puts their trust in doctors while the doctors provide the people with the prescriptions written by the government. Another example is that government will regulate foods, drugs etc so that you don’t have to worry about liars and cheats trying to sell you bad stuff or fraudulent products. Look how that one turned out, the conspiracy theorists were right, even AIDS was a fabricated disaster used to sell drugs and enrich the government workers at the cost of many lives. Bill Gates was, until recently, allowed by the Indian government to inject people in India with his test vaccines, resulting in the deaths, paralysation etc of enough people that the Indian government eventually decided that it could not cover up selling its own people as test subjects so started to blame Gates, pretending to start some legal case against him.

Socialist governments are eventually a disaster because they convince people to let down their guards, then they sneak in for the kill. Now Red is wondering why all the people still trust the government: probably because they need an authority figure and are not willing to take that role within the context of their own lives, so they cling to government as the authority.

The one form of government that appears to be working is the Swiss form of democracy, direct democracy. That government has caved to the USA to some degree but the people seem to retain more control over their country than any other developed nation. Of course, there is always corruption in every system, including the Swiss system, it is a matter of degree.

    Situation normal -all fucked up.

Here’s the latest SNUFU reported on Airstrip Five:

‘They’re absolutely massive’: Ice chunks the size of skyscrapers break off NZ’s Tasman Glacier

The Tasman Glacier in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park experiences large ‘ice calving’ events every few years, but not usually at the scale it has recently.

The glacier has been shrinking for decades, but in the last 13 years, that’s been happening at a rate of one-and-a-half rugby fields per year

Socialism turning children into babbling idiots: one of the worst crimes is to fail to educate your children. The parents of these children trusted the government instead of teaching their own children to read and count. Trusting government eventually destroys the people, it destroyed these parents’ ability to bring up their children.

That’s because the totalitarian fascists and warmongers of Airstrip Two keep Switzerland supplied with oil, grains, fake money etc. while Airstrip One facilitates much of the money-laundering that Switzerland engages in.

The latest business opportunity centres on the construction of underground bunkers for international refugees with vast fortunes, that are constructed locations that are almost inaccessible and cannot be seen from normal hiking routes.

    Drones can spot them though.

    1. Print money and lower interest rates, or

    3. Only raise interest rates to half the inflation rate and only half tighten money supply.

@Red: “Viewing ” authorities as legitimate naturally arises from their legitimacy in seeking out the best compromise solutions within a society. The detached voice of research assumes “objectivity”, but it is a false “objectivity”, since somebody is a customer for the work and pays for it.

PR only goes so far. You can’t fake-sincerity adequately to fool everybody, and even a lot of people will catch on in time if you keep working against their interests and giving excuses.

The thing is, I watched the same thing as 30’s USSR play out in the 50 largest cities in my country just recently.

Also, I was required by my corporate employer to attend multiple talks in which for 2-3 hours straight, nothing but current year marxism was spewing out of the speakers. With not too much inconvenience, I was able to research and see what 70’s/80’s90’s marxist academics, Frankfurt School people specifically said what that was being quoted or whose ideas it was based on.

I checked out the BLM website before 2020 and they did specifically pledge to end capitalism and the american family, which was a little weird. Then I watched practically every main corporation with the black banners donating millions to them. I noticed the Antifa folks using the same exact symbol as 30’s marxists

everything that WORKS or worked with the current system is getting degraded – morally and actually – by people with marxist messaging. Don’t think about Marxists, think about the system now? I’m really working on not cultivating more cognitive dissonance than I can help.
