Two years ago I bought a brand new bike for $258. This week I saw the same model in the same store; price $401. That’s an increase of 55% in two years. Similar increases are seen with respect to groceries: a particular ‘cheap’ brand of concentrated fruit syrup was $3.90 two years ago went to $5.90 several months ago. Cans of ‘cheap’ baked beans that were 80 cents two years ago are now $1.40; that’s a 75% increase!!
Needless to say, there are numerous items/products that I used to buy that I no longer buy. But I do wonder how people who foolishly ignored advice to get planting -repeated a thousand times over the past 20 years and studiously ignored- are managing.
This surge in the price of food and general living costs is occurring at a time when house values are plummeting in most regions and notional savings, such as KiwiSaver, accounts are plummeting in value.
Added to the financial and economic misery imposed on the Proles of Airstrip Five by the management of the corporation are the effects of severely overheated oceans, which are manifesting as unprecedented torrential rain events and wild swings in temperature that are playing havoc with much agricultural production. My friend, who until the recently used kumara as a staple told me he has switched to rice now that kumara is unaffordable. Most of the rice eaten on Airstrip Five is imported from Airstrip Four. And the supply could cease almost overnighht As could the supply of most consumer goods and many ‘essentials’ if Airstrips Two proceeds with its planned strategy of attacking China.
I take solace in the fact that the predicament of the masses is far worse in many other regions of the world, even if their governments are not as thoroughly rotten as that of Airstrip Five and the other Airstrips.

Then there is an intangible tipping point when the market – the aggregate people – realize they’re never going to get paid back and need to cash out. A small motion like SVB causes others to join in. In a few months from then, the currency is worthless and the government discredited and out of power. “Prices” go to the trillions which is really nobody wanting the currency. Cooperation breaks down and everybody dies. Some then, but many more when Napoleon or Hitler re-establishes order. “Our Guy”

The whole POINT was to destroy US, the U.S. military. We were too strong and needed to be ground up. The plan to destroy all of us and take over the world. McCain’s 100 year war is still going briskly 22 years later and looks to continue for some time, so that’s a win as well. Most of the Constitution is a dead letter and the people love it and want more. Another win.
See you have to know what they WANTED to know if they’re winning or losing. Their goals are not our goals. Our goals are peace, prosperity, order, life, freedom, and so on, while theirs are the #Opposite, like to the god they worship and the weirdo religion they follow.

Doesn’t that make the straights one of your own?
It’s the limits of the Sistine Chapel that Michelangelo filled. It’s the limits of the marble that made David. It’s the limits of the field that made Patton’s victory so grand. It’s the limits of money that give it value. And it’s the limits of death that makes life precious.

In the 90’s I recall a scifi book called Why Do Birds. It wasn’t fantastic, but wasn’t bad. A bit Vonnegut-esque.
Humans receive an alien signal, which says hello and advises that they build a structure, all needed instructions included.
Humans are told there is a catastrophe coming to Earth. Therefore we need to build this giant cube, load as many people onto it as we can (in suspended animation) for rescue from the catastrophe.
The Earth goes ahead and BUILDS it. Catastrophe ensues, apparently emanating FROM the cube they built.
Where was their skepticism? Like in The Golden Compass. The lady is told,, via her computer, that she’s talking to a Demon, therefore, having been informed, she leaps up to rush off and follow its commands where before, she was skeptical. WHAT? Like Son of Sam killing all those people because his dog told him to. What do you do when your dog tells you to kill people? Firmly say “Bad dog” and give him a rap on the snout with a rolled up newspaper. Duh.
If a big booming voice woke me in the middle of the night telling me to sacrifice my firstborn son at the top of a mountain, my reaction would be “Your channel’s content does not correspond to my values. Unsubcribe.” and drift off back to sleep if possible. I certainly wouldn’t be in any rush to obey. I don’t get it. Is reality really like a video game with a bunch of NPC’s inhabiting it? Am I being lied to about the degree of compliance?
Anyway, I’ve been on a little project to try to determine my own values more concretely instead of just wandering around saying “I know it when I see it.” Having noticed that every single touchstone from my childhood has been shat upon, I figured that was a decent area to review.

I barely remembered A Wrinkle In Time. It was read to me before I could read, and I was reading things like The Hobbit around 6 or 7. So it must have been very early. Naming turns out to be recognizing a particular unique nature of a thing or person (including its/their imperfections) and giving it a unique name. And implicitly, love for that thing or person not only in spite of but because of their imperfections. Making distinctions, with words meaning particular things.
Un-naming eradicates the entity, from tiny to gigantic, and the bad guys work at all levels to do so.
I suppose un-naming efforts are recognizable as starting in earnest in the US in the late 60’s, but it was taken up a huge notch around 2016. Interesting to see it in a book written in 1962.
the bad guys are also determined to eradicate, specifically, mitochondria. Weird, considering the injection which does not vaccinate appears to go after, amongst other things, mitochondria in a big way.

Madeline L’Engle doesn’t appear to have a specific manifesto. At times I can feel her reaching, intuitively getting a grasp on what matters as she is writing almost, it seems. I haven’t made an exhaustive report here on everything of value in her Time Quintet, but it’s a quick read. I’m through the first 2 books in about a day and a half.
Interestingly, it is, in many ways, the same story as a book I think is the best scifi book in the past decade or so. Maybe the past 2 decades. There Is No Anti-Memetic Division. Published 3/26/21. I’ve had some creative endeavors in which I was absolutely stuck, alternately unable to produce anything or producing total garbage until I chose to be bounded by specific limitations. It is difficult (maybe impossible) to make a statement of truth that is both simple enough to be unambiguous and broadly understood, and yet at the same time informative enough to the listener that they gain at least one small thing new from it. The tendency is to dismiss statements that tell us what we think we already know as being overly obvious, of little use, or even as pedantically insulting.
That’s a damn shame, because the simple fact of the matter is that serious avoidable failures (aside from random events of nature) are always and only caused by violation of simple truths and rules of conduct that either we were born knowing, or which we learned by the time we could drive a car. Some things are totally out of our control. We can’t prevent asteroid strikes. But some things are very much within our control, for example you CAN avoid deliberately stepping into the path of an asteroid that you see coming.
That’s the case we have now. Our individual lives are being kicked around seriously because the “Western” Empire is catastrophically and injuriously falling, and it’s falling in such a way that it threatens to drag the entire world down with it. The Empire is not falling due to random events of nature. It’s falling apart at the seams because it is willfully doing things WRONG. I’m not saying wrong in the moral sense (although that is true, also, and extremely so). I am restrictively using the word, “wrong”, in the sense of “that which does not work”.
Example: if an Empire wants to control when to start and stop a war at the time and place of its own choosing then it must possess enough money, bombs, bullets and canon fodder to CONTROL that war. It must maintain the capability of doing so (of controlling the war) for as long as is necessary in order to accomplish whatever objective it had for having a war in the first place. Involuntarily losing a war at the time and place of your enemy’s choosing is the ESSENCE of not being in control. This Empire is losing in Ukraine, Dollar Supremacy, Secrecy, Respect and several other “Theaters” of the unlimited warfare it is waging against anyone and everyone who does not just kiss its ass upon demand.
The Empire is demonstrably NOT in control. The Empire is critically short of bullets, bombs, canon fodder and even budget to control its many wars, especially the conventional (military) ones like the one in Ukraine, but there are social and economic and political wars as well, and it’s losing those too. There is about to be almost no money in the coffers for any of it, and ALL of it requires vast flows of unlimited counterfeit money.
If the Empire was adequately in control then there would not be any serious challenges to its plans. That’s what the Pax Romana is supposed to mean. It means that the Big dog keeps the little dogs in line, usually by dishing out pain and making them take it. Look around. Are all of those nice little doggies still quietly taking shit from the West and following orders?
Our Empire is doing a lot of things wrong, and is observably incapable of making itself stop doing those wrong things in a wrong way. I won’t bore you with the oft repeated list, but it has to be said that there some items on the list that are existentially important. If an Empire cannot control THOSE crucial items then that particular Empire exists no more.
One of the things that it MUST do, to exist as a hegemonic power, is to actually BE and DO proper hegemony. It calls the shots. Not anyone else. It dishes out shit and makes its subordinates take it. That’s it, no exceptions.
That’s why every hegemonic empire MUST come to an ignominious end, because to remain an Empire it MUST do the very things that guarantee its failure. It must do wrong things the wrong way, which can only (and always does) end in collapse.
So all of the above leads inexorably to the unavoidable punchline of Rule #1 for hegemonic empires: NEVER seek to become a hegemonic empire, because it can only and will always, deliberately destroy itself. It will continue to seek to be the Big Dog even when it is not, because ignorance of Rule #1 is what got it into trouble in the first place.
That status of preeminent supremacy comes to an end one human being at a time, as each person individually comes to their personal realization and understanding, by their own free will, that the current so-called “Powers That Be” are wronger and thus weaker, by the hour, and thereby losing more and more control as we watch in literally stunned amazement. Each day brings a fresh debacle to remind us that the previous Big Dog is as mad as a hatter and NOT the big dog any longer.
And that makes this a whole new dog fight.
To the degree that a person has depended on the Big Dog (for their money, status, authority, for national and local security, for health, information or justice . . . they will NOT be able to successfully depend on it any longer for those things. A lot of people have already discovered this and are energetically taking whatever remedial steps they can. Others have not yet awakened, but they will when the chaos impacts them directly enough. For most people this is when their money is predictably threatened or actually destroyed. There are other types of wake-up events, but money tends to be the biggest one, oddly enough.
I think that an increased understanding of why collapse is occurring helps in predicting each phase of collapse as it proceeds.

Some views of history may be more useful these days than others. It seems that history is going through a rapid decline of a dominant empire, as with the decline of the British Empire. Much of the functionality of the British colonial system transferred to the $US based neo-colonial system of finance, through the IMF, World Bank, western banking, and increasing military enforcement of the regime after the dissolution of the USSR. There was a unipolar-world moment where the western military-financial regime sought to solidify global power and control, in the “Global War on Terror” after 9/11/01. The world was paying for this by using $US, printed in Washington, and based on Saudi oil, and the establishment of global trade in $US, “Super Imperialism”, as Michael Hudson called it in 1972. Nixon and Kissinger ran to Saudi Arabia with that football.
The actions of the western empire are more chaotic in recent years, certainly since the debacle in Afghanistan, now followed by the loss-of-face in Ukraine. The rest of the world is becoming less fearful, seeing how Syria survived with Russian help. What is the American imperial game plan?

Oil and gas are limited in a finite world, so control it all, and put choke points in place where tribute must be paid. The countries that pump the oil and gas will grow their economies, gobble it up, and stop exporting, if we let them, so we need to suppress/destroy their economies, to protect our access-to and control-of “their” resources.
The inefficiencies of that for most people, especially the people in the oil/gas countries, put most-people at odds with the “hegemon”. The hegemon does not serve the interests of Americans, Brits, Canadians, Germans or Japanese any more than is necessary to maintain their compliance.
The cost of maintaining hegemony cannot be maintained, AND the project is already failing, so it makes “sense” to cut that cost quickly.
Africa, Cuba, South and Central America, much of Asia and the “Mideast” can receive a peace-dividend for a few years, instead.
This new cooperative, non-colonial arrangement mightl be much more efficient in meeting more human needs, especially the needs of the humans who have been getting bombed and starved for food, water and fuel.
