Let’s see if I got this right.
Almost $2B is due for the gas bill.
    The E.U. is offering $15B.
The Ukraines said they need $30B.
The people of Kiev have been on strike for +3 months.
The runaway president has taken untold Billions with him.
Future productions will not be able to pay back the bankers what they are owed.
Assets will be seized and divided up among the wealthy and the powerful.
Those people who are not well connected will have to grin and bare it.
At the end of the IMF deal, prices will go up and the economy will become more efficient.

Here is something to make you realize that the messages are getting out.

The following link is from an online newsletter for expats in Costa Rica that give the same advise as TAE to their reader who want to prepare for the changing future.

In case that link does not work, its page 22-25 of the may/june 2013 issue of El Residente at

    Thanks.
    I’m in.

I believe that the structures of a stable system exist. It will need improvement.

The powerful and wealthy people will spend “their” money on what they want.
If they want a good road that’s where they will spend their money.
If they want a windmill then they will get it.
If they don’t want to see starving people then they will need to do something about it.

We Can Be Certain of This   (February 15, 2014)
Our job is to describe and discuss another arrangement, a sustainable, non-addictive one that isn’t doomed to collapse from the start, so all those currently clinging to the path of self-destruction will have an alternative when the Status Quo comes apart and the smack they “need” to continue living is no longer available, or no longer available in sufficient quantity or quality.
    ===

For thousands of years, there existed an imperfect system.
It would distribute surpluses from those that produce more than what they needed to those that could not produce enough for their needs.

Here is my definition of wealthy.

The wealthiest and most powerful person is the one that does not need to use any energy to replace his/her energy expenditure.

Black swans actually exist. Do a picture search. I saw them.

I have returned from a 15 day cruise into the “TWILIGHT ZONE”. There were aprox. 1,800 people. 95% were retired seniors. On this trip, I thought that “the guests” could afford and actually did paid for the 15 day excursion from their savings.

At times, I thought that I was on a post operation cruise. I mean, medical post operation.
Other times, it felt that it was like “THE LAST CHANCE CRUISE” before meeting with the grim reaper.
Then, for many, the workers were giving “care giver” service.
Zombies … the living dead …
    Weird …
Grandmas in bikinis working on their suntans who couldn’t give a damn about getting cancer.

Grandmas with bikini wax jobs and painted toe nails.

Everyone on the cruise was getting service that they do not receive in their every day life. It was service and treatment beyond their pay scales. It was their last chance to try to experience what they believe to be the lifestyle of those with more money than them.

Every one has some understanding of the financial meltdown and the causes. Every one is trying to avoid the truth.
The present operating system is on its dying leg. Its over. The changes are coming.

    I like the following reports.

    The Mafia State of Mind
    February 6, 2014
    https://www.oftwominds.com/blogfeb14/mafia-mind2-14.html

The mafia state of mind is all about extracting wealth that could not be extracted without state enforcement, monopoly and covert systems of control and extortion.
When there is no other choice but submission, when voting for either party yields the same results, the mafia state of mind reigns supreme.
Once the mafia state of mind has seeped into every nook and cranny of the society and economy, it’s not even recognized as corruption: it’s simply the way the system works.

Top Ten Examples of Welfare for the Rich

If you want to look at the welfare for the rich and corporations start with the federal Internal Revenue Code.  That is the King James Bible of welfare for the rich and corporations.  Special breaks in tax code is the reason there are thousands of lobbyists in the halls of Congress, hundreds of lobbyists around each state legislature and tens of thousands of tax lawyers all over the country.

THERE ARE MAJOR QUESTIONS ABOUT WORDS THAT ATTEMPT TO ENCAPSULATE REALITY.
A word is suppose to convey/communicate/summarize the body of knowledge that has been acquired by the participants.

To get an insight, reflect upon the experiences you have had in attempting to teach a new word to a 4 year old or to an adult learning your language or to someone who has not acquired the same body of knowledge as you. (experiences, education)
If you do not wish to be misled, scammed, etc. you will need to question your understanding/comprehension/effects/causes of the words of your language.

… Everyone seems more than happy to take the money,(QE), run, and persist in labeling the system “capitalism”. Which I would think is a curious label for a system that depends to such an extent on government hand-outs
… If a financial system is as dependent on public money injections as today’s one, there is a very real risk that this market has in fact stopped functioning,
… The reality, as far as we can get a grip on it, is that the mortgage related assets would not have ended up at the Fed if they were all that solid,

… the debts hidden in the banks‘ vaults had grown to such heights that they needed immediate and large scale access to public money just to save themselves and their owners in the background from outright bankruptcy.”

“ … and they are the most highly leveraged bank in Europe (at 60:1 in the last tests – not a misprint), …”

Wellll! Let see what that means.
    Let’s look at some numbers.
$100,000 deposit means that they are lending 60 times that number.
This means that they have $6,000,000 in loans.
At 5% interest, that means that they are generating, ( if all the loans are performing), $300,000 income per year. They could pay off their $100,000 deposit 3 times. Another way to look at it means that if 2/3 of their loans were non performing they would still be able to avoid a bank run and pay off the depositor.
Isn’t great to be able to print money. They would go to the central bank to be able to cover their operating expenses.
Trying to keep things in prospective.
There many areas around the world that are functioning without the bankers. If the world that need the bankers were to disappear, many areas would still continue to function.
I wonder how the Spanish people, with their high unemployment, are managing to survive without the bankers? Maybe they found a way to get food into all the needy mouths.

I want to make an observation about “THE PIE”.

ref. living standards, a return to growth, multiple claims for the same piece of pie.

    1. The pie makers are increasing and getting less for their contribution to the pie.
    2. The system of capitalism/socialism has evolved so that only a few can extort bigger and better pieces of the pie from all gov. agencies.
    3. There is useable lifetime of a piece of pie, (infrastructures).
    4. Replacing a piece of pie that has deteriorated does not raise standards of living.

Everyone who has bought a Lotto Max ticket has dreamed of how they would spend it. The odds of winning are 1 in 86 million.
70% of the winners are broke within a few years.

If you can avoid the scammers, by hiring good advisors, $10 millions could generate 7% per year or double in 10 years. That would mean that you would be getting richer by $1 million per year or over $100,000 per month. Avoiding scammers would be an every day problem and growing every day. Doing investments would need to be your full time job, even with a good investment advisor.
Since all the readers here are smart, and knowledgeable they would be among the 30% that would not go broke in a few years.

ilargi, check the links that you provide, (more good reads), on the left of the front page. Some don’t take you where you want us to go.

I just wanted to do a little calculation on the effects of leverage. (for newbies)

$100.00 deposit with a gov./regulator recommendation not a law, of 10 times leverage with a 5% interest on those 10 loans would generate $50.00 of interest per year.
At 20 times leverage the interest would generate $100.00 of cash flow.
At 50 times the original $100.00 deposit the generated cash flow at 5% would be $250.00 per year.

As can be seen, the original deposit could be returned to the depositor and the bank could continue raking in the cash flow and could end up being the owner of all the collateral of all the loans that default.

( note to the accountants: don’t nit-pick accuracy of the calculations. Its only an example)

    Avantars won’t load.

I think that this report, ( amount of leverage), demonstrate that we are living under new rules.
Leverage is irrelevant if central banks are going to be there with the printing press.

    “Deflation is already here.”

    Not for me.
I think that it is for those with money buying distressed assets with free money from the central banks.

“People are not spending, i.e. the velocity of money has fallen.”

I would agree that people are not spending. People who have savings are spending their saving. Since the majority of people don’t have saving, and their costs of what they need are going up then its becomes a simple exercise of cutting in one place to spend in another place.
Even borrowing/credit has dried up, except, for student loans and car loans.
On the other hand, the velocity of money has increased among the “big players” getting “free money.”

If we did not have the internet, very few people would be aware of what is happening.

“Because either those who keep claiming that Bernanke and the rest of the Fed board have made nothing but honest mistakes for years are right, and I am profoundly stupid – which I don’t think I am -, or I am right and the Fed is loaded with really stupid people. And I don’t believe that either.

There is a third option, however and of course: that the Fed has not at all been doing what they say they have, and it wasn’t a long line of mistakes, but something else altogether.”

“That this entire group of more than average intelligent people make all these mistakes, and misinterpret all of these signals, despite having more and better access to data than anyone else, and you still don’t wonder if perhaps they’re not trying to do what they say they are? How can you claim to be an analyst if you don’t even question your most basic assumptions? How is that analysis and not apologism?”

“At some point you need to ask: stock market crash? What stock market? How is it still really a stock market if it hinges to such a large extent on the Fed pumping money into Wall Street banks? At the very least, you might question if the S&P still reflects an actual market at all, if that market is supposed to reflect what goes on in the economy, and obviously doesn’t. You might want to ask what purpose such a largely illusionary stock market has, what its use is within the larger economy. And while you’re at it, you might also want to answer what use the financial system as a whole is to the real economy, if all it does is squeeze money out of it.”

“Let’s redefine all this talk, and call a spade a spade: The Federal Reserve defines and executes policies aimed at aiding the banking system, not the overall US economy…. The Fed, more than anyone else, has access to the data that prove this. It knows how badly off the banks are.”

Since this is not Zero Hedge comment section, I will only say that I’m reminded of an old discussion, by the teen boys of yester-years which I’m sure most of you are familiar, if you are too young to know then ask your grad parents.

droit du seigneur, (French: “right of the lord”), a feudal right said to have existed in medieval Europe giving the lord to whom it belonged the right to sleep the first night with the bride of any one of his vassals. The custom is paralleled in various primitive societies, but the evidence of its existence in Europe is all indirect, involving records of redemption dues paid by the vassal to avoid enforcement of some lordly rights. Many intellectual investigations have been devoted to the problem. A considerable number of feudal rights were related to the vassal’s marriage, particularly the lord’s right to select a bride for his vassal, but these were almost invariably redeemed by a money payment, or “avail”; and it seems likely that the droit du seigneur amounted, in effect, only to another tax of this sort.

UBS AG (UBSN), Switzerland’s largest bank, agreed to pay $885 million to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to settle claims that it improperly sold them mortgage-backed securities during the housing bubble, a U.S. regulator said.

UBS disclosed earlier this week that it had reached an agreement in principle to settle the suit. The FHFA sued UBS in 2011 over $4.5 billion in residential mortgage-backed securities that UBS sponsored and $1.8 billion of third-party RMBS sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The suits alleged losses of at least $1.2 billion plus interest. Fifteen other banks still need to resolve such lawsuits.
