First, an update on my situation personally, it has been awhile. I live in the nation’s capital, and reside about 1km from the parliament buildings in Ottawa. I monitor TAE regularly but post infrequently. My wife is a registered nurse at a long term care home, out on leave since October 12th. Her Employment Insurance claim was denied after 109 days of review (as expected), on the basis that her refusal to receive a vaccine, with a complete lack of long term safety data, under coercive threats of loss of employment, constituted misconduct.

I work for a Crown corporation and therefore fall under the federal mandate. On Monday, February1st I was informed that I would be placed on leave without pay unless I receive a first dose by March 1st. Needless to say I will be walking into the red zone and spending some time with the fringe minority this weekend. And btw I am a racist, misogynistic extremist.

Respect to you John Day for remaining unbowed. My wife (registered nurse in Ontario) and myself (federal government employee) are on the same path. Her slightly ahead of you, and myself about a month behind I expect.

That being said, I do see some reason for optimism. Firstly, in conversations I have had with colleagues at work where I see pushback which will result in a loss of perhaps 10-20% of employees, but those 10-20% are responsible for 50% plus of the “work”. I had a one-on-one workload meeting today with my supervisor where I disclosed my “unvaccinated” status voluntarily for the first time, declared my intention to remain so, and there was a clear sense of nervousness.

Secondly, in conversations with other parents of children in the 5-12 age bracket who are next up in short order when Health Canada says good to go with the Pfizer mRNA shot. The majority indicate a hard no. We shall see the firmness of their resolve a few months from now when a mandate comes down…get the jab or no school.

An update on the situation my wife and I now face in the lovely province of Ontario. Perhaps letting people know how we are approaching the situation, which also now directly impacts myself as an employee of a crown corporation, might be helpful in some way.

I had previously posted regarding my wife’s circumstances. She works as a registered nurse at a privately operated LTC home. As of today we understand she has been placed on an unpaid Leave of Absence, We filed for religious and freedom of conscience exemptions, heard nothing from her employer, with a grievance hearing (she is unionized) scheduled for this coming Friday. I anticipate she will be denied, after which arbitration will follow at some point in time.

I am now facing an imminent indefinite suspension, perhaps a month out. I will file for a freedom of conscience exemption, and will pursue the same process as I am unionized.

I am fervently and deeply against the coercion being deployed to start with, as much as I am concerned about the risks associated with all four vaccine options approved by Health Canada at the moment (two mRNA and two viral vector types) given the new untested technology involved. We have drawn a line in the sand now, as if not it will be our four year old son next.

There are three other vaccine candidates under review in Canada, two of which appear to be more traditional inactivated vaccines and one a protein subunit vaccine. These seem more aligned with ones I have taken in the past and I would possibly have less concern about these going forward, though I am only considering using this as an argument to buy time at this point.

In the meantime, good news in that I have secured seasonal employment from mid-November onward which will keep us comfortably afloat to allow more time for the chaos that I fear may unfold in the coming months.

Here we go. For me this post is in a sense a call to battle stations, as you will understand from the personal nature of what follows.

Long, long time reader, first time poster, lots of good info here so kudos to Raul and posters. As with many here my sense of foreboding is intermingled with frustration with respect to the current state of affairs. Please allow me to introduce myself and join the community.

My family and I live in Canada. I am an engineer. My wife is a registered nurse who works in a long term care home, has done so in the same facility for over 15 years. Having done our due diligence and finding the official narrative equal parts disturbing, unscientific and single minded, neither of us has received what is presently offered as a vaccine for this particular virus. A part of our concern is in what lies ahead for our 4 year old, and stiffens our resolve.

This despite the coercive attempts by my wife’s employer, mostly successful unfortunately, to push a jab on staff. The current situation is this…the provincial authorities have decided not to try to mandate vaccines for healthcare workers, and those unvaccinated have been told they must take compulsory “training”, continue to wear PPE, continue to be tested daily, change clothes onsite, basically making life as inconvenient as possible. In contrast the vaxxed need only wear minimal PPE. I suggested she wear a yellow star whilst at work but I wouldn’t expect anyone to understand the gesture nor do I think it would be respectful.

She has worked extra shifts the last 18 months, being moved onto the ‘covid floor’ during outbreaks because others were on stress leave or fearful, and volunteering to come in unpaid to help hydrate and feed the vulnerable who had fallen sick. And yet she is being vilified while many of those same staff members who took leave or asked to be moved out of the ‘covid floor’ are considered heroes for simply taking the path of least resistance and accepting a vaccine that really is a complete unknown with regard to long term effects, let alone the known dangerous short term effects? That being said, I am (very) cautiously optimistic that the silent majority, like our friends and family have proven, are at least tolerant if not indifferent to our position.

We are fully prepared for her to step down from her position should it come to that, which would be unfortunate. It seems the best we can hope for is this virus fades as they tend to and we manage to lie low.

In an alternate scenario as time passes and it is clear that the vaccines are useless, or worse yet, outright dangerous, my expectation is that any number of narratives will be spun blaming the dirty unvaxxed. Neither is a really hopeful scenario.
