I’ve respectfully read and listened to and understood a lot of the works of Chris Hedges and Noam Chomsky , and quite a few other folks both left and right of the center line who have remarkably high IQ’s (and some even higher than mine !!) Mao Zedong was clearly a military and political genius, judging from his successful rising from powerless peasant farmer to virtual Emperor of China. He climbed from powerlessness using Communist strategy , and he kept his power by being a ruthless authoritarian dictator. One of the swiftest and longest shifts from Left to Right in recorded history, although Hitler, Stalin and a couple others might give him a good run for the money .
Have you noticed that the furthest extremes of the Left/Right spectrum . . . the polar opposites . . . are virtually the same thing ? That isn’t a coincidence.

Mebbe. Sure wouldn’t put it past them, and if true then it would certainly have been a very cagey play to make. Or , on the other hand, maybe stories to that effect are just more smoke and mirrors. The Finance Funhouse that we call markets is so full of shifty mirrors and billowing smoke that it’s a wonder anybody in there can even breath.
This particular virgin is staying out of that den of sin. Smart enough to know I know nothing (as @Maxwell Quest was smart enough to observe the other day) . . . but it sure as hell is fun to watch !

I’m not saying that the power strategies preferred by the Left are good strategies in an all encompassing moral sense of the word “good” . I’m saying that the powerless ( or shall we say “power deficient”) tend to use certain strategies because the strategies are effective for powerless people to use. For example, the little kids in a playground can gang up on an individually powerful bully and drive him from their playground.
It’s to be expected that (as strategists) the Lefties tend to be a few bricks short of a load. That is a major factor in how they got to be powerless in the first place. But it’s certainly not the only factor, and it is also true that not all of their complaints about oppression, exploitation and filthy rich people are wrong. Far from it.
If the Chinese Communists , for example) were to take over and strip you of everything you own (because you are a Doctor and an outspoken Conservative) and reduce you to powerlessness by means of force, theft, censorship and targeted laws . . . well you would be forced by reality itself to adopt strategies for recovery that were VERY “Leftist” in nature (such as ganging up in secret with similar thinking victims and conspiring with them to find ways and means of stealing your stuff back from those who had stolen it from all of you in the first place.)
What I’m saying, in general, is that as people gain capability (for whatever reason) their thinking and action shifts to what we call the “Right” , and when they lose capability (for any reason at all) their thinking shifts “Leftward”.
That’s all.
You will, of course and as expected, find a bit more stupidity on the “Left” because below average IQ is a fairly big contributing factor to powerlessness.

It’s just fascinating ain’t it ? We know that the Big Guys absolutely must stop the populist rebellion that has clearly breached the gates of the counterfeit empire. Failure to staunch the hemorrhage ends in certain death for the empire. And yet the bleedout continues unabated… so far ! What weapon will the empire finally use to kill these peasants ? At first I was sure the weapons would be exclusion, censorship and ban. Now I’m thinking it might be a little more “High Tech” .
I’m going to go out on a limb here and make a straight up prediction. I predict that the empire will use its near total ownership-control of the Internet (wires, servers, mainframes ,software, networks and everything) to route ALL buying and selling of stock (etc) through a new and proprietary FIREWALL, which allows approved traffic to go through and non-approved traffic to NOT go through. Only government approved trades (buys and sells) would be able to enter or leave the actual market (if you could even call such a monstrosity a “market”).
We are fast approaching the state of affairs in which the worlds entire “official” economy is nothing but an enormous computer simulation of a market. Members get paid. Non members will get bupkis (or less). No more uncertainty or stock market crashes !! No more of a lot of things, actually.

The Republican’s rhetoric (and phony public image) is “Rightish” and the Democrat’s’ rhetoric (and phony public image) tries to be as “Leftish” as they can manage. In the end it is only their actions that really matter or reveal side of the so-called center they’re really on. In other words, it’s not unusual for them to speak with forked tongue. Watch what they do, instead. Labels can be a little bit helpful, but only a little. It all looks confusing because we’re overloaded with rhetoric, propaganda , phony images and labels . . . being originated from their higher ups .
To see which side of the divide an individual is really one just watch their feet, hands and money management. The powerless who want more will tend to adopt Leftish strategies as the most effective means competing with a more powerful adversary. The powerful will tend towards Rightish strategies (Rightish) to put down the challengers and retain what they feel is rightfully theirs.
Who’s got the power and who don’t ? What strategies are their preferred strategies. Chairman Xi , for example spouts Communist propaganda (words and theater) like a Renaissance fountain . . . but he’s a straight up Nazi in his thoughts , deeds and financial affairs.
The ones to really look out for are the ones who play both ends against the middle. They don’t discriminate much, they’re happy to eliminate or anyone , by getting a Lefty or Righty to do it for them. What can ya say ? They’re psychopaths.
While you’re burning the hapless Dr D at the stake let me throw another torch onto the pyre. (my apologies Doc) . Doc has a good mind and an honorable heart but he also has an ideological disability : he’s ideological . He’s conservative (i.e. good) and his opponents are liberals (i.e. not so good. Bad, even) Controlling his behaviors is as easy as threatening his ideological position. If I own all of the mass media and most of the Internet that’s awfully easy to do. Just cram the comm waves with stories about millions of un-vetted illegal non-English speaking socialist Democrat voters are streaming across the Southern border to lower wages, drain the social welfare system, screw things up in general and and pave the roads to full blown communism. Bam ! He’s up in arms spoiling for a fight.
I can do the same thing to the other side, the Liberals. All it takes is 24/7 saturation bullshitting about those scary fuckin’ MAGA rednecks. I can say anything I want to. No lie too big no truth too small. Scaring the pants off Liberals is ( literally !) child’s play. I bet there’s more than one soft-hearted semi-commie who is wracked by the guilt of sleeping with a hand gun on the nightstand because they actually are terrified that tattooed right wing hillbilly’s are about to violently overthrow the government.
See where I’m going with this ? There is NOT just the Left and the Right. They’re just the slave labor. It’s the THIRD category that runs the show, and they control the action by playing those two sides against each other. Slick, really, when ya think about it. I haven’t come up with a really catch label for them just yet. Taibbi’s “vampire squid ” ain’t bad . . . just takes too long to say.
Anyway, getting back to the topic, There is logic and there is ideologic. Logic is better because it can flex to accommodate reality. Ideology, on the other hand, and even in the hands of a genius, is like brittle iron. Strong only to its limit . . . and then shatters in useless bits.

Incidentally, and what I did not get around to saying in my previous post, the Bad Guys ( Team Squid, if you will) are the amoral operators ( just another category of human being) who have mastered the dark arts of controlling both “Left” AND ” “Right” (at once and in tandem) for their own benefit. It’s easier than pie . It’s easier by far than you think. Only moderately normal intelligence is required, BUT there is one very big catch. To do it well the operator must be legally insane ( i.e. unable to tell the difference between right and wrong). In a word : psychopath.

Yeah. As you said, that old “Left” and “Right” thing rears its shaggy head at the strangest times, doesn’t it ? Wonder why that is.
Left and Right are not simply fuzzily ill-defined political labels. They are the broad sweeping terms we use to categorize life’s strategy preferences. “Left” describes strategies which favor the powerless, and “Right” designates those which help those with some power to hang on to it.
Of course, as the powerless gain strength they start doing stuff to keep what they have attained. In other words, they start acting like the Right-wingers they originally accused of doing the same damned thing.
Same goes for the other side, the so-called “Right”. As the once powerful fall from omnipotence they are forced by reality itself to adopt “Lefty” strategies, such as ganging up , grabbing free money and hyper-organizing to enable them taking down a more powerful foe.
That’s why the Chinese proverb advised , ” Choose your enemies carefully, for you shall become them.”
And so it goes. Flip. Flop. Flip. Flop . Back and forth. The revolving cycle used to take centuries. Now it takes merely years (Thanks for the help, Internet ). Incidentally , it was the Internet that upset the delicate balance this time around. It’s swift, cheap and ubiquitous enablement of communications between common folk suddenly gave populists a very disproportionate advantage. The powerful saw the threat coming, and their solution was to take even more power away from the already powerless, who became genuinely alarmed, etc. etc. etc. You get the picture.
In its most visibly active phase we call this oscillation a Revolution ! . . . but in actual fact it has always been a perpetually ongoing thing. Lot’s of metaphors. Very few solutions. Only ONE solution, actually.
That only solution is for you to understand it . Force yourself to become aware of what IS , and what the hell is going on around you. You cannot end the swinging of the pendulum between power and powerlessness . . . but with massive quantities of awareness and wisdom you can , eventually, restore an almost acceptable balance. . . and not get cut in half by the pendulum as it sweeps past us there in the pit we’re all trapped in.
Okay, so not everyone was sound asleep. Some just needed stronger or faster acting espresso.
Jubilation over the GAMESTOP skirmish is understandable (it’s been a long time since we hit the bastards at or near the waterline) , but brothers and sisters outright celebration is very premature. Please do not let it be fatally so.

But do you think for an instant that the squids are going to just let that stand ? You KNOW they will counter attack with everything they’ve got. , so what you all should be doing NOW is launching strikes that are pre-emptive to the predictable moves that they are going to make. (That they have already started making, actually)
Side Note: vampire squid are virtually devoid of innovation and creativity ( to use old Hippy Speak, it’s just “not where they’re at”). First they will de-voice, de-platform and censor. Then they will put heads on pikes as warnings to others. Then they will pass bat-shit-crazily-unjust-laws. And finally they will neutralize and/or murder Ring Leaders. Expect suicide rates to uptick for a while.It’s a war. Bad guys fight back with the power and weaponry at their disposal. Shoot them THERE.

I reckon less than one tenth of 1 percent of the general population has INSTANTLY twigged to the implications of the Game Stop kerfuffle . . . but they soon will . And those who see how it must play out will spread the word . . . too little, too late, as usual.
Trump/MAGA was round 1 , the Chinese Bio Warfare attack was round 2 , the fraudulent election takedown of the American Empire (bloodless coup) was round 3 , global Internet censorship (Twitter, Google, et al ) was round 4 , and we are now looking at the first really big punch thrown in round 5 (collapse of the global money system).
Round 5 will end in expulsions, amputations and restrictions that will prevent future attempts to pull off “Game Stop Style” attacks.

Good Conspiracy Theory Wanted
I could really use one right now. Hell, I’d settle for a half-baked hypothesis or lame explanation. Whatever it takes to make any kind of sense out of the events of the past few years , and especially the past couple of months.
I’m not going to itemize some fucking list . You know ’em by heart. But I will mention that the whole damned thing is made up of events that no one from around these parts had ever seen happen before, and so did not really believe would ever happen. And then they happened. One after another, sometimes stacking up two or three deep. A lot of folks are stunned. I sure am.
Unbelievable ! But when something happens, and becomes part of reality, then you sort of have to believe it, right ?
Makes ya want to reach out for your nearest copy of “The 5 Stages of Grief” to see if maybe there was another stage tucked in there somewhere . Something between Denial and Anger , maybe , called “Totally Fucking Bewildered.”
Are all of us just getting ourselves too worked up by scaring each other with tough talk, scary clothes and drama? Or is this joint actually going to tear itself in two?
Are things going to get way better, way worse, or fumblefuck down the wobbly middle like they usually did? Damned if I know. It feels like I have flipped three coins into the air as a last resort to resolve the dilemmas , and all three coins came down balanced on their edges.

Accepting the unacceptable is intolerable, but if you don’t accept it, then WTF ?
American political activity for the past 4 years has been a psycho screaming chaos of enormously important questions for which all possible answers are just totally fucking off the wall horrible, no matter what is your preferred political tribe, nor how deep you care to dig (or not). Did I say America ? I meant to say the world.
Neither WW2 nor the American Civil War compare usefully to the current level of confusion and anxiety. At least back then the issues were fairly clear-cut : For the Civil War the issues were States’ Rights , Secession and Slavery. For WW2 the issues were : Quasi-Semi-Democracy vs Officially Legal Tyranny , and the issue of inalienability of human rights vs humans as rulers’ chattel.
Oh, to have our problems be so simple once again. But wait ! They are still that simple . In fact the issues are not just as simple, they are literally the same issues as they were back then : human rights, sovereignty, self defense, slavery, and the rights of rulers vs the rights of the ruled.
So what changed ? Why do our modern problems feel so much more complicated now as compared to then ?
That’s easy : Sheer fucking numbers of people, and the unexpected emergence of totally unforeseen technology.
In 1860 the world’s population hovered around a billion and today it’s SEVEN TIMES that many. Back then espionage was sketchy , slow, very hard to staff, and constrained by the sheer laboriousness of the tasks. Today people carry cell phone spies in their pockets by the billions, and digest the information with super-computers and psychology driven AI software. A billion dollars can be sent half way around the world in less time than it would take an old time banker to start loading it onto a horse drawn wagon.
We have no systems provenly tested to deal with that, and you gotta know that humans have tried them all. So it’s not the issues that are new. It is the parameters and logistics and capabilities that are new.
For example, governments have always spied on their people and always will. And people try to evade that spying, as they always have. Neither of those things are new, nor will either of them ever go away (because human beings shall compete. Period !) What has changed is ultra high technology that enables a far smaller number of spies to dig far far more deeply into far far far more people’s business.
The reason Assange and Snowden are prisoners (thankfully they avoided execution or assassinations) is that they enabled the populace to counteract . . . to some small degree . . . the exorbitant advantage that technology was providing to government. The reason that government is working so ferociously to censor and control the Internet is that the Net has been giving a pretty darned big advantage to the populace. Rulers use the word “populist” as a bad word. Rulers view Freedom of Speech and Communication as a clear and present danger. As well they should, because it is. So there ya are. Plain and simple. Just not easy.
It’s pretty obvious that the way to fight back is to use the technology itself to circumvent the obstacles and vulnerabilities which government is now using technology to depower us. In other words : use tech to not be spied on (like Snowden did). Use tech to bypass their attempt to censor free speech (like Assange did). Use tech to let everybody else know about it (like both of them did.)
Ironically , but not at all surprisingly, it’s the bad guys themselves who ensure that the bad guys will be defeated. They accelerated a fight which had previously been fairly stably balanced. That was dumb, because the fight can never go away nor be excessively won nor excessively lost. The fight is baked into the structure of the frigging Universe itself for crying out loud ! Individuals (and groups of individuals, too) must compete in order to survive. Period . Thinking that they could tip the scales enough to significantly change the balance for very long was just plain stupid.
If you build a machine that can rule the world then the individuals (and groups) of the world will compete to see who gets to run the machine. Duh !
By taking away our freedom of speech , assembly , self defense and free movement the bad guys are inadvertently creating increased demand for those very same things. And in that manner the bad guy’s are being the proactive agents of their own undoing. Had they not threatened to take the things that I cherish, then I would not now be demanding more of those very things. Nor would I be calling for the thieves to be rolled up and stored somewhere unpleasant for a while.
So glad to see that the United States has shifted onto the firm and dependable policy of governance by Calvinball Rules. Much easier to work with, day to day, than that complicated ol’ Consitution.
I don’t think that all this chaos swirling around is World War 3 at all. I’ve broadened my perspective. I think it is Global Civil War 1. We’ve been de facto Globalist for decades.
The world has been steaming in the direction for quite awhile but invention of the Internet built a REAL fire under the boiler. We have been been predominantly Globalist ever since the net got a firm grip on the communication of ideas, money, espionage and machine control.
Now Earth is arguing , heatedly, over who gets to be boss. The current chaotic and scary conflict is not a war ‘between nations’ over resources . (Hell, if you need or want any resources in any quantity, just buy them online and pay with digitized money using more internet gizmos. )
This shifty dodgy dirty dog fight of truth, lies and betrayals isn’t nations fighting over the globe, it is a Civil war on the Global Scale, over who gets to be Chairman of the Board . It’s being fought by the same power coalitions who already own everything , to see who gets the inordinately generous perks of being the boss. Brothers and sisters, y’all are in this thing whether you like it or not. And if you don’t want to choose side don’t worry, someone will choose which side you’re on for you.
It is a straight up raw power struggle, back alley rules ( i.e. no rules). Forget about law except in the Public Relations sense, the players will do what they can do. They know the risks, make their plays, and take their chances.
I am extremely confidant that it’s going to get much much wilder and crazier, as in “You ain’t seen nothing yet.”
On most mornings you will awaken to news of some fresh outrage which far exceeds what you imagined possible. For examples : Beijing Biden won the Presidency. The Office of President of the United States is summarily banned from communicating to America’s citizenry. The Supreme Court declines to hear evidence about election fraud which has driven the Nation to the brink of open warfare. 25,000 combat ready troops have securely cordoned off a “Green Zone” around the capital in Washington to “celebrate” a “virtual” inauguration. The Congress “impeaches” a President who is gone. No doubt tomorrow’s news will have a newer, bigger wackier something.This the first instance that we know of in human history in which a single conflict simultaneously engaged every person every where in such an ‘immediate personal consequences’ sort of way.
What I don’t know about the detailed mechanics of the struggle would fill volumes, but it sure is interesting to watch. And watching the action very very closely indeed is good advice if you want to keep your body and soul connected and under your own personal control over the next few weeks, months and years.@Kerry Wilson

Not only is the language of the First Amendment crystal clear and unambiguous, it closes the door on criminals, authoritarians or tyrants trying to fiddle some way around it. It bars that door by beginning with the words, “Congress shall make no law . . .etc.” America’s Constitution guarantees absolute freedom of speech, and forbids writing new laws to get around the blockade. It is a cornerstone of human rights .
In other words, you have the right to yell any damned thing you want in a crowded theater. If people are killed as a consequence, then it is you causing their deaths that is the crime . . . not the yelling. It’s the same reason that in a shooting the law accuses the shooter, not the bullets.
If there was a law against yelling FIRE in crowded theaters, then people might die because you saw a fire but were forbidden by law to yell out a warning. Just like believing that Trump should not have freedom of speech to publicly accuse the criminals who stole the election. Rigging the National Election was a crime, so the people who did it are criminals. What if you witnessed Trump committing election fraud, but, you were forbidden by law from saying anything about it to others?
Should Trump NOT tell the 75 million people who voted for him that their victory had been stolen , because it might upset them ? They should let an election thief be their President instead of the one they voted for? . On January 6th , 2021, 100,000 people or so peacefully assembled to petition their government for a redress of their grievance that the election had been stolen . They were obeying both the spirit and the letter of the Constitution, the most fundamental law of the nation. They did their duty, broke no law , and neither did Trump. He honored his duty to his citizens, and they did their duty.
How can any of that that be construed as bad in anyone’s mind ?
If Trump was inciting then why didn’t they incite? If he was “fomenting” an insurrection then why didn’t they foam ? Where, exactly is this insurrection, anyway, under my porch? What I see in Washington is 40,000 armed National Guard standing around with each other inside a barbed wire fence. No flames, smoke or gunfire. Pretty boring insurrection if you ask me.
And in closing let me you remind everyone dropping in that Infringing Freedom of Speech is not only unjust, it is also very illegal.

What do those crazy intentions all have in common ? They are all evolved from the works of Karl Marx, and they also constitute the openly admitted and publicly promoted agenda of the Chinese Communist Party.
The solution is so extremely simple as to sound overly simplistic, but in fact it really is this simple : individuals who espouse that Communist agenda are to be financially, legally and politically removed from their positions of authority and made to play the persuasion game by the same rules as the rest of us. It is no longer even necessary to communicate one’s opinion that fraud may have taken place and should be investigated. Merely wondering if it might be true is now , literally, a criminal act. Law abiding citizens are being arrested and charged at this very moment .
In openly coordinated action the Main Stream media and Big Tech companies (Google, Twitter, Facebook and Amazon) conspired to immediately and simultaneously deprive the President and his tens of millions of supporters of access to the public communications platforms they controlled , in unambiguously intentional violation of their Constitutional right to free speech. I suggest that it’s a pretty good time to be thinking about that instead of Twitter and Bitcoin. Laws are about to be swiftly imposed and enforced which will restrict your movement and participation in such fundamental aspects of your daily life as leaving your house, buying groceries or emailing a friend. You are about to be forced by law ( and the need to eat, shelter and move around) to accept an mRNA vaccine that will change the entire human genome, forever, despite the complete and utter absence of knowledge about possible undesirable consequences. Your knowledge, opinion and vote have just been proved to mean absolutely nothing . mRNA has never been used on humans, and there are ZERO long term studies of effects in either the short or long term . Allowing an average of 7 days between human cell divisions, and just thumb-nail the arithmetic for how long it takes for the recipient to be a whole new and improved version of themselves, the version with permanently modified DNA throughout their organism..
No matter how great the odds are for only mostly good results , the odds for getting a bad result damned well better be absolute zero, or else you are toast. No one knows the upper limit of just how far (or for how much longer) this ridiculous ripoff can continue before the true victims (i.e. the rest of the world) reach the end of their rope and declare “No mas ! ” But there is one thing they all know and agree upon : The world is teetering on the brink of that “system” breaking under the load of too much real money is being demanded from real producers (i.e. the rest of the world) to pay back too much fake money to counterfeiters (i.e. the USA).
In other words, no way will the powers that be hasten ‘The End Of The World As We Know’ It by giving freebies to ungrateful poor people. Those same poor people, however, might soon hit the end of their rope, and put an end to the world of the rich anyway. In other words, revolt.

There may be trouble. Hell, I’ll even stipulate that there IS going to be trouble. And in the end we will absorb it and them and anyone else who chooses to play. In the end we will be America, and just as crazy and mixed up as we have always been. New World Order implies some sort of “orderliness”, and no one has every been able to do that. Try herding cats.

Think of Lord Brown as a quieter , modernized, version of Oswald Mosely. Same royalist aristocratic class , and deeply personal attraction to (real) German Nazis. Far less flamboyant. No Black Shirt thugs at his rallies or anything like that. But he sure do cleave closely to the sincere love of top down authority. Eloquent speaker, impeccably polite, and a total fucking narcissistic mad man . . . just like Mosely.
Brown worked many years for Bolivian President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada , who more or less openly helped displaced Nazi’s assimilate, disappear and prosper in South America after WW2. Not very clear who was paying Brown’s salary, which strongly suggests MI6 or CIA or both. He sure wasn’t working for shits and giggles.@JohnDay
Thank you for putting in the thought-work and the writing-work to articulate so clearly the big picture composite of what so many of us have been thinking and saying in small pieces. It is a very very good summary of where things presently stand, insofar as we are aware with a reasonable degree of certainty.Obtaining more ( or better) information under current internet circumstances is unlikely because our sources and channels of communication are so compromised. There is so much lyin’, cheatin’ and stealin’ going on that is ( as we all know) very VERY difficult to winnow the wheat from the chaff.
My suggestion, therefore, is to process and reprocess the information that we already have, looking for new patterns, reaffirming (or changing) previous conclusions, and perhaps discovering those important details which we have certainly missed. Perhaps Battle Plans can be improved thereby. That’s what Generals do on the eve of battles. And in my opinion the fight of our lives is about to shake the earth.
For starters, I’m going to re-read your essay three or four times to see if there is more there than immediately meets the eye. I think it was Paul Dirac who said “My formula is smarter than I am.” Well, I can’t shake this feeling that there’s something in your essay that’s even righter than you thought it was.
I read and reread your analysis three times over. It’s insightful, astute and accurate, but what really impressed me was how you said so much with so few words . That’s elegant on top of eloquent. Well done, man.

Re-reading what I wrote to Geppetto , it does come across as a bit dramatically arcane, but that was not the contextual meaning, nor was it it my intent to convey mysterious allure. The truth of the matter is that many of the folks on TAE are long term professionals ( maybe even experts, who knows ?) in fields which are not within the purview or focus of the subjects TAE traditionally addresses ( and very successfully, I might add ). This platform covers a lot of ground, but it doesn’t cover everything. I simply do not want to distract the conversation from what has worked so well for quite a long time.
On top of that, The Automatic Earth is Raul’s intellectual property , not mine. He has curated it very very well, in my opinion, and I am grateful that he lets me have my say without censure. I sometimes include snippets and bits of wise observation or pithy commentary from my area of expertise, but that does give me any sort of right to turn his platform into my megaphone.
Having said all that, I do not mean to imply false modesty on my part. I’m very confident of my accomplishments in my field of endeavor, which, to be bluntly frank, is what most people would call “deep” . So, when knowledge from my working life seems pertinent and relevant to things that come up on TAE I sound off and contribute my two cents worth.. Otherwise not. No one cares (nor should they) about credentials. All that matters is the veracity of what is said.

And you’re right, it’s way deeper. Too deep for a platform like TAE which already has an accepted focal range and exists due to the long and faithful work (for low pay) of it’s co-founder Raul . I would not be willing to lead us down some other garden path of discussion without his express request to do so.
