They dug up my street in Athens, and deep! No way they fill that back in today. Plus the diggers have no clue what all those dozens of cables are for. First victim: internet. In a bar now, but that gets old too: I work minimum 12 hours per day. We’ll play it by ear, shall we?!

The judges rejected six of Assange’s nine grounds of appeal, but said they would grant appeal on three issues: freedom of speech, Assange’s claim that he faces disadvantage because he is not a U.S. citizen, and the risk he could receive the death penalty.

Coverage of the Assange ruling is a bit confusing, but he won’t be on a plane anytime soon. Confusing because RT says: “ASSANGE WINS RIGHT TO FIGHT EXTRADITION TO US”, while the BBC reports UK prosecutors are merely looking for a few extra US guarantees, like no possible death penalty. “Assange faces wait on ruling as judges seek US assurances” “The Wikileaks founder faces a further wait to find out whether he can bring an appeal against his extradition to the US.”

The US Supreme Court has ruled in a unanimous decision that former President Donald Trump will be allowed to remain on primary and general ballots in the 2024 US election, after several states removed the former president under the 14th Amendment.

Only option they had. Imagine a president elected by half the country.

Linking to rt.com is no use, it’s banned in much of the west. I use mirror site swentr.com these days (rt news spelled backwards), that seems to work.

A Christmas card for Lunar New Year! What’s going on?

Is it the climate change we hear so much about?

The main thing I get from reading the reactions to the Tucker/Putin thing -I read many- is how polarized our world has become. We think we know that, but we don’t really, it’s always more the next day. Carlson only spreads lies and conspiracy theories, and Putin is only a blood thirsty war criminal. There is no grey area anywhere in sight. How we are ever going to breach the divide, you tell me.

In the light of how the other side of the divide ignores, and instantly pardons, anything Biden does or says, it is pretty insane how two intelligent men are so lightly pushed aside.

But I gotta tell you, the video up there where someone has taken footage of MLK jr and altered his words to make it appear as if he is endorsing Trump is neither funny nor witty. It is abusive to the memory of MLK, Jr. and perhaps even actionable, should his family want to sue for the defamation of his legacy.

It’s AI/meme team. Prepare for a lot more of it.

    Tucker Carlson just now:

Gonzalo Lira, Sr. says his son has died at 55 in a Ukrainian prison, where he was being held for the crime of criticizing the Zelensky and Biden governments. Gonzalo Lira was an American citizen, but the Biden administration clearly supported his imprisonment and torture. Several weeks ago we spoke to his father, who predicted his son would be killed.

If you are able at age 23-34 to portray a, let’s say, 74-year old man the way Rembrandt did there, you are not only an insanely good painter, you are also an insanely good observer of people. It’s 3D. I can see inside the guy’s head. I can see his emotions.

    Happy New Year everyone!

in reply to: Debt Rattle New Year’s Eve 2023 #149488

There’s no ideal moment for New Year’s wishes. As I write this it’s still 4 hours away here in Athens, and 11 hours in New York, but also already long past Down Under.

And still we’re all together in some way. So there’s no reason not to say Happy New Year right now.

Thank you all for being here, contributing to TAE in your various ways, and do prepare for a much crazier year than the one we just lived through.

    We will have that.

Merry Christmas for everyone here. Thank you so much for your attention, your curiosity, your support and your donations. It is always humbling. And that will not stop as we move into the next year. Neither will I.

I still don’t know what happened with X. Their posts don’t show as they used to. Saw it first when preparing to post the Debt Rattle this morning. And you think: it’s my computer, then it’s my site, server. None of that. Do they want this new thing, or is it an accident? Let’s see. It’s not better here, or for other sites that use X posts.

    Ian Graham,

When will you start posted better sources on climate/overshoot/energy issues? Maybe some more range of perspectives, not just the clickbait for the deniers?

I got tired of the climate “science”, because it feels far too much like the Covid “science”. Clickbait for the deniers, or clickbait for the alarmists, it’s still just clickbait. What are “better sources” depends on opinion.

We need to restart this issue all the way back to the start. Without pretending we “know” anything,

There’s a lot of questions about the Israel videos of the hospital. But scores of Kalashnikovs and ammo in the MRI room? Really, magnetic resonance and metal objects?

If you read 100 articles a day, you’ll miss some things. Risk of the job. But I can’t find back one now that I would like to. Maybe you can help. It said that both Biden and Zelensky will soon be gone, and von der Leyen too. As a way to make talks with Russia possible. Lots of things about “secret” talks with Russia. But I would like that one article.

    I’m a little unsure.

It doesn’t look like Israel will launch the full scale ground offensive. Or they would have already. Bad weather my donkey. But they will do a smaller one; can’t lose all of Bibi’s cred in one go.

But why? Is it the resistance from the west against killing 100,000 civilians? Or is it Iran saying we’ll have no choice but to become involved. And then that bringing in Saudi, Turkey etc?

As I wrote yesterday, Bibi should not be in charge of the country. He thinks what’s going on today actually takes place 30-40 years ago.

    Israel Defense Minister Yoav Gallant:

“I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting animals and we act accordingly.”
