Ilargi seems to think MENA refugees should aspire to our own hideous levels of greed.
    I don’t.
However my country is jointly responsible for making refugee homelands unlivable.
I think they call it Karma.

Well be gentle…you know how fragile and sensitive I am !

Actually I’ll stick my butt out even further and paint a target on it and state that there will be a hold even without any of those triggers, although they are all valid and large market falls are imminent/inevitable

Here’s a prediction Automatic earthers can take to the bank.
    Ready ??
The fed is NOT going to raise rates and surprise everyone by leaving them as they are.
If you follow the dollar index you will note that the dollar dropped massively and dramatically on December 3rd, the decision was probably taken then amongst the prime movers, the Eur/Usd has also double bottomed and will rally briefly despite (or because of) long time dollar upward trajectory – since 2011 in fact.

With my Arse on the line

    Hi mate,
Yeah, I’m also aware that a lot of people on the right who claim to be anti, are in fact landowners or in support of landowners who gobble up the subsidies, they’re just as culpable as the left – only in a different context !
My comment was no criticism of your analysis, on the contrary I applaud you for putting up the article, you are now going to be accused of all sorts by the green fascism that has closed all discussion on fossil fuel enabled renewables

re : how green energy really works.

Although the author is probably the sort of money grubbing capitalist I despise, his article is without doubt 100% accurate, I should know – I have been involved in opposing some of the most gigantic scams masquerading as wind farm developments here in Scotland with the SNP working hand in glove with developers to hand over tax payer largesse to their multi billion buddies SSE and crushing ordinary Scots resistance to these hideous landscape disfiguring nightmares spreading like a cancer all over the country.
He is also right about these issues being an obsession of the left – again, I should know, I used to be an advocate of “renewables” and would chant the mantra when I was what could be considered left leaning, I realize now I simply did this without investigation because it was a “left” opinion to hold, I’ve long since abandoned left and right as two cheeks of the same arse.
Renewable energy in it’s current form is one of the biggest frauds perpetrated on the people of the world – it has allowed industrial scale development in areas of the country that would NEVER have been permitted had the public not been hoodwinked that in order to save the environment we must destroy the environment.
Conservation of energy is the ONLY answer – period

    Ilargi.

My broader point is, aren’t we encouraging economic migrants (not all from war torn areas) to be the very people – i.e. greedy grasping want-all materialist locusts – we need to stop being ourselves?
Again, I ain’t got no 5k to pay anyone to take me to a part of the world where my prospects of material acquisition are greater, there is something inherently wrong with a large part of what’s happening here, do I pack my bags and leave my council rented property and knock on the door of the first country estate mansion I come to demanding residency and more? no I don’t, that’s just the Tao, but the number of people who are flooding into Europe NOT from war torn areas are doing something analogous to that…….. aren’t they?
Demanding western style material wealth accumulation is to be discouraged in all peoples, not just rich westerners.

“even before we know for sure who the murderers are, or what their aims were.”

Oh come on Ilargi, give it a rest with the continual defence of designer refugees/migrants.
there are 4000 ISIL operatives now in Europe thanks to the insane open border policy of Merkel, not all of these people are what they claim to be and you KNOW it, I can’t get your angle here, you are determined to be as pro refugee as possible, despite overwhelming evidence this is turning into a nightmare (Hint : read Orlov’s guest post last week by Alex – it’s unmissable). I DON’T have a £600 GPS smartphone, YSL shirt or expensive watch, you are promoting the influx of migrants to be accommodated in the style the west has become accustomed to – rampant materialism – but you rightly decry that materialism, and I don’t aspire to it either, I live extremely frugally – but it’s ok for refugees/migrants to aspire to that lifestyle?, what sort of demented hypocrisy is that? I’m from an Irish migrant family so I’m the last to be accused of anti immigrant bigotry but Britain is jam – packed to the rafters, and any influx will mean more environmental destruction, more housing and infrastructure built on what remains of our precious countryside, oh but you’re against that are you not? or you would not have posted the last article “the annihilation of nature” – your continual tubthumping of the right of economic migrants to be given what you’re telling us to give up is a form of cognitive dissonance, and is at odds with other aspects of your message
    Don’t you see that?

With longtime respect but increasing disillusionment, your pal.

    HA HA,
BBC Scotland are terrified of speaking out against the SNP and locusts like Sturgeon and Salmond the weirdo, that’s why they’ve never once mentioned these two proclaimed unwavering support for Juncker (probably to spite Cameron who opposed him – infantile) who championed the brutal austerity against the Greeks whilst whingeing like two year olds against the austerity measures imposed by London…. you couldn’t make it up.
The stinking hypocrite SNP are CORPORATE LACKEYS and a malignancy in Scotland…. The Scots just haven’t realised it yet although the penny is slowly dropping in some quarters.
Rumour has it Sturgeon is going to allow fracking after all, that should wake a few somnambulant sycophants up.

Bravo Ilargi, a wonderful piece of writing and observation.
Add to that list the SNP in Scotland whose leader is busy blow-jobbing almost every sociopath you mentioned there, while European diktat has stranded Calmac Ferries and the SNP single eye in the forehead inbreeds are selling of every inch of the country to their ‘special interest’ (aka Development) buddies under the guise of ‘freeing’ Scotland – in reality – a one party state/corporate dictatorship with no boundaries….. the people here just don’t realise it yet, much like the people of Europe who blindly sing the praises of their “union”
    It’s laughable.

    @nooboob-“green energy illusions”

Brilliant man, I have seen these stats before but it does no harm to put them out there as often as poss.
I’m no shill for the fossil fuel industry – far from it, but the green energy hoax is insidious.
every wind turbine is a monument to fossil fuel from the goose step to the raspberry and every increment in between in their manufacture, the difference is the FF input goes in up front, there is NO answer to FF and it’s depletion/pollution – none, period, except of course the solution the green brigade will NEVER accept, which is stringent conservation, that is the only way we can navigate the power down that is coming to us whether we like it or not, happy clappy “we can party on as long we do it greenly” wankers have became the bain of my life, (you might have noticed) as I watch my country’s environment utterly destroyed – to save the environment. Risible.

” it was about increasing wealth, not about making your own decisions in times of less wealth. ”

Bingo, and the latter was why I was such an ardent yes initially, as foolishly, I imagined that’s where we were heading under the SNP and the fact that the former turned out to be their driving motive infuriated me,…. no matter.

Salmond has resigned, but far from gloating I am a very downhearted Scot this evening and wondering if I have let spite and lust for revenge cloud my judgement, I am now regretting we have voted no.
The Union jack waving loyalist bigots are causing bother in George square, Glasgow, and already there is talk of London reneging on the pre vote panic promises, not that those bribes were my reason for voting no.
I have made a mistake, and am almost reduced to tears by it.

I’m hearing you and Ilargi…. really I am, and am as anti-establishment a geezer as you could wish to meet.
I’m a miners son AND a hill walker and lover of our irreplaceable mountains and glens so…
Thatcher destroyed our industries and economy, Salmond is destroying our environment, both done these things for money and power and I’m having a hell of a hard time figuring out who is worse… If you are money obsessed its Thatcher if you value the other, finer, better things in life about Scotland it’s Salmond – with more to come if he gains absolute power.
But never mind the duped maniacal yes supporters, get your butt up to the SSSI designated spectacular sand dunes on the Menie estate and marvel at how they’ve been transformed into a 15k per day golf course for the uber wealthy in a deal cooked up between Mr S and the ever loveable Trump (arch Thatcher-ite) and while journeying marvel at the hills and glens absolutely TRASHED by the hoax that is the industrial wind farm development (do some homework up front on FF input for these monstrosities – our finite world is as good a place as any to start- then get back to me yeah.

It’s 5pm ish here and I’ve decided not to vote as I despise Westminster AND the dictatorial pestilence at Holyrood. I’m encouraging neither.

Corp. tax decreases, in bed with Murdoch the beast (remember Milly dowler) and Trump, in bed with multi national multi billion energy company parasites like SSE colluding to destroy our countryside for profit and GDP growth – nothing more – old Maggie would be proud, THOSE are a few of the truths that YES dare not mention by name, of course they are welcome to refute any of this any time they want, I look forward to the deafening silence

Sorry, unrelated to post, but I’ve just caught up with TAE and would like people to see my reply to yesterdays post and comments. (also posted there)

@ Sprocket “They would not embrace free market bullshit like England”… granted that’s what you have heard.

With respect that is total and utter bollocks, this man is TEARING SCOTLAND TO PIECES for economic growth, greed and free marketeering.
I’m sorry Ilargi but you’re just flat wrong! these development atrocities etc. NEVER happened before the SNP came to power and if there is a yes vote today this party will be empowered like never before and Scotland will be put through the mincer by these money obsessed vermin, its simply Pollyanna fantasy to suggest we’ll rid ourselves of the SNP after independence, they are in for ten years following a yes vote and I absolutely dread to think what Scotland will look like after that as everything will be thrown under the bus so that this dictatorial greedy little money grubbing bastard can satisfy his growth at all costs imperative, the very antithesis of TAE philosophy I would have thought.
So then… my beautiful country has to be trashed from tip to toe so that we can give the establishment a kicking, yeah great if you ain’t got to live with it. Scotland will get another crack at this (circa 2020 IMO) with a party who (hopefully) genuinely care for the country, not a lunatic economic visionary running around destroying the village to save the village, and, after listening to Salmond’s plans for Scotland after a yes vote last night I no longer have a heavy heart about voting no today, London have NEVER torn up so much of this country for profit in sixty years as this lot have done in six.
Welcome to Scotland industrial theme park. People really need to get on board with what this lot are doing, I’ll give you a starter for ten – the Menie estate Aberdeenshire, SSSI
designated, an outstanding once in a universe time natural wonder, democratically voted against, overturned and allowed by our Scottish patriot Salmond to pander to DONALD FUCKING TRUMP,…….. there’s oh so much more, but unfortunately I don’t have a spare fortnight to regale you all.
There was an article at TAE a wee while ago denouncing some east European wilderness area being hydro’ed or whatever… but it’s OK for Salmond to wreak havoc on Scotland as long as behemoth power structures are wobbled?? I’m a NO (this time)

And another thing, I don’t think the world has woken up to the fact that what we have here is a Harper/Abbott-esque sort of character, yeah sure, he wants rid of Trident – or so he says, but lets not forget he single handedly made sure the SNP dropped it’s long standing policy commitment of withdrawing from NATO membership AT THE DROP OF A HAT when he thought it might stand in the way of his ambitions, that would be the same NATO conducting it’s hideous cloak and dagger campaign in Ukraine.
I’ll believe Trident is going when it’s gone, this man is not to be trusted, period.
This SNP admin. has the worst environmental record of ANY devolved admin. in my time with their “it’s ours to trash” mindset.
Long story short – Wee Alec is not a Scottish patriot, he’s a MONEY patriot.
Westminster’s neglect – unbelievably – is now preferable, and if Salmond is going to use Scotland’s oil wealth to bury the country under a tsunami of concrete I’d rather be poor.

    @ Raleigh.
Local people ARE protesting and trying to stand up to Salmond’s housing and infrastructure build out at all costs policy, only to be met with – the all encompassing get out of jail free card – “overturned on appeal” because it’s in the “national interest”….. hat tip to Mr Hitler there I think.
Apart from the truly evil Mrs T. (and lets not overlook the fact that I’m a miners son who got Jack Danieled out of his head at one of the many celebration parties the day the devil came to take one of his own) I cannot remember such wanton destruction and havoc – environmental, psychological, institutional, you name it – being visited upon Scotland by a man Claiming to have Scotland’s best interests at heart, he is a RBS oil economist who wants to use Scotland as his own little fiefdom to further the interests of big money and his own personal gigantic ego, the population are pawns in this, his own little empire build, don’t believe the hype. this is a POWER play, an independent Scotland joined like crossed fingers with Juncker et al.?? I don’t think so, what’s independent about that?
The man is a dictatorial, tyrannical bastard and I want him gone…. NOW, by what ever means necessary, there is a lot of the evil Mrs T. in Mr S.
    Corporation tax reduction anyone?

Oh and PS from the mises link “small-is-rich Ireland”, would that be the stranded asset Ireland left with vacant never occupied housing after 2008 caused by the EU induced debt/growth policies that Salmond is following so closely to the letter. Laughable.

Ilargi, I posted this late on in the last thread, didn’t want you or the earthers to miss it, it’s still relevant to this post too.
“I’m not really at odds with your analysis or conclusions Ilargi, for me this is the mother of all Hobsons choices, as I see it : London = tyranny and neglect , Edinburgh = tyranny and brutal exploitation of areas outside Holyrood’s domain for Edinburgh and financial interest’s benefit , however, your take on the Macro consequences make a yes vote more desirable, unfortunately for people living up close and personal with SNP destruction and increasingly a nudge toward anti Englishness a no vote to stop Salmond’s malignancy is the only option.

Ilargi, I hear you too, and agree with your long term prognosis, however the short term is important here, this loony is destroying huge swathes of Scotland with industrial scale windfarming, the eastern side of Sutherland and large chunks of Fife and Galloway have effectively been ruined forever with more, much more to come, also a truly mind boggling house building and infrastructure program has been embarked upon with local communities ignored and big money construction and development interests blowjobbed, and this, as as we all know will end as stranded asset, ergo, in the short term Salmond may destroy this country beyond all repair before the true benefits of our independence and the EU blow up corollary can be enjoyed, a yes vote and another Salmond term would be enough for him finish his demolition job IMO.
Nothing is sacred for this money, prosperity, progress obsessed maniac. I want him gone by whatever means necessary.

    @ Diogenes Shrugged,
After being a wool dyed yes, I too turned against Salmond and the yes campaign months ago, he is an absolute charlatan who would sell his soul to the devil simply to beat Westminster (which I also despise, but not enough to disparage my English neighbours), he is tearing Scotland limb from limb by trashing our countryside, greenbelt and historic institutions all in a puerile attempt to match Westminster GDP figures and “prove” Scotland can mix it with the best….. destroying the village to save the village 2014 style if you like…., I dread to think how Scotland will develop if he wins and secures another term (inevitable if he wins) I’m heartbroken as I’d love to give the London establishment a kicking, but Edinburgh tyranny for the rest of Scotland is so much worse than it’s London counterpart, believe me I live in the next distict and it’s being destroyed to benefit its parasitic city ruler
