    Regarding the ubiquity of religious art motifs (thousands of pietas) in Middle Age & Renaissance art: consider it propaganda by the Catholic Church. In fact, artist weren’t allowed to depict non-religious motifs, or rather no art that wasn’t religious was funded. Caravaggio was considered heretical because he painted the Madonna from a prostitute as model and worshiping peasants kneeling in front of a cross with dirty feet. How disrespectful to depict real people!

    Abortion: “There are two lives at stake, whether you like it or not.”

    Since when have our rulers cared for the lives of their citizens subjects, unborn or alive? A born life used to be cannon fodder, and now it’s fodder for medical experiments. Abortion is about control over a woman’s body, not about saving lives. The “concern” for the unborn stops the minute they are born.
    Or just reverse the situation: If men could have babies, image them being forced to have them if they oops made a mistake.
    No, it’s the patriarchal order that is under attack and abortion is only one facet of the backlash. Whether it’s abortion or vaccines, have you notices that the ruling class is asserting more control over our bodies?

    Christine Anderson – –
    representing Germany in the European Parliament on behalf of the AfD party (Alternative for Germany) – Germany’s neo-Nazi party. Just because she’s got the Covid thing right, doesn’t mean she’s got other things right.

    Droplets are if someone coughs, sneezes or spits on you leaving particles suspended in droplets. Aerosol transmission is particles suspended in air. Think of passing another person in the street, both fully masked, yet you can smell the other’s perfume. The perfume particles have made it to your nose, so can the virus (if present). I’ve been able to smell perfume as far as 10 yrds after passing the person – both fully masked. This goes to show that the 6 ft. social distancing also is arbitrary, and neither masks nor social distancing nor plexiglass shields provide true protection for aerosol transmission.

    So the question is why haven’t I caught the virus yet? I believe it’s because there’s not that much viruses out there, which depends for course on your personal situation and exposure.

    “Ah, and he contradicts himself by first saying that masks are pure theatre and then admitting that they stop sick people from emitting dangerous droplets.”

    What he’s saying is that masks would help if transmission was by droplets. However, Covid is transmitted via aerosols.

    Yuck!! So much propaganda on both sides. The Michael Moore piece, the linked Awake Canada video, even to some extent the very interesting Spartacus paper.

    Propaganda mixes the true with the false and in order to sell it, it has usually more truth to it than falsehoods. 2/3 of the Spartacus piece is probably true. I say probably, because there is no way for me to know for sure. At the end, however, s/he speculates on what it all means, turning speculation into fact statements, and it’s here where s/he loses me.

    The Awake Canada video is easy to recognize propaganda. Fast visuals, fast speaking, ominous background music. Conflation of Nazi National Socialism with social democratic socialism, followed by quick succession of pics of Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Bernie and AOC. You get the drift.

    The Michael Moore piece is disappointing coming from him. Way too many blanket statements, and how authoritative! Believe me right now and do what I say!! “No, you don’t have a medical condition that prevents you from getting the vaccine.” How would he know? Has he seen the patient? Is he a doctor? Where the heck does he take the authority to make such sweeping statements? Who is the authority that says get the vaccine? Why is a guy like Moore leaning on that authority? And he’s arguing in all earnestness that because he’s been so anti-government in the past, that gives him credibility now. Kill me now.

    The truth is that none of us KNOW. Not Michael Moore, not Awake Canada, not Spartacus, or anybody else who claims to KNOW. This whole thing hasn’t played out yet although we do know a bit more than a year ago, and until then most of this kind of talk is nothing but speculation. And we may never know the whole truth even when it’s finished playing out, and we will have to live with that, the same way we live with never knowing who killed JFK.

    Followup interview with Prof. Fabio Vighi discussing in more detail his essay A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Systemic Collapse and Pandemic Simulation posted yesterday by Mr. House I think. Very nuanced, from a system perspective, capitalism not working anymore and on life support. Quote: “Personalizing guilt is always bad and if you point the finger at Bill Gates or Big Pharma, you end up with tragedy. You need to look at the systemic conditions; the system is a kind of impersonal machine that carries on regardless of who’s in the driver’s seat.”

    Update from the CDC: infection fatality – survival rates for Covid-19 per age group – –

    shouldn’t the percentage sign in the 2nd column (fatality rate) be stricken, or alternatively the numericals converted to percentages? Otherwise you’d be comparing apples with oranges. The numbers are still impressive.
    Fatality rate survival rate
    0.00003 = 0.003% 99.997%
    0.0002 = 0.02% 99.98%
    0.005=0.5% 99.5%
    0.054=5.4% 94.6%

    Of course, Greta’s being used, she has political utility, as they say. By the way, similar happened to Orwell after 1984 was published, a critique of totalitarianism, equally applicable to the left and the right, but seized upon with alacrity by the US to point the finger solely at the USSR. It was one major reason the book has been so successful in the US although Orwell didn’t get to profit from it because he died (and before he could get upset about it). In fact you can gauge a book’s political utility by the sales it generates. The more sales, the more propaganda is being pushed.

    I watched the Mark Crispin Miller interview linked in yesterday’s comments #85085 (thanks my parents said). I like Miller, having read his Bush Dyslexicon some 15 yrs earlier and watched part 1&2 of his 2020: A Propaganda Masterpiece videos. I find his arguments well presented, cogent, logical, commonsensical and myself readily agreeing with him. Yet, there it was, the big unexpected swerve at 57:15 where he acknowledges environmental pollution, but not CO2 increase, and then goes on to dismiss Greta Thunberg as a “eugenics tool.” Greta Thunberg has been swift-boated and Al-Gored because her great-grandfather, the scientist Svante Arrhenius, “invented” global warming when in 1896 he established a connection between fossil energy use and the warming planet. Remember when Al Gore was ridiculed for claiming he “invented” the internet when what he actually did as senator was secure the funds to make the internet, up to then used primarily by scientists, available to us all?
    It boggles the mind that someone like Miller who has examined propaganda his entire career does not see the parallels. He is blind to his own blinders. And his host doesn’t challenge him. I’m 100% with you, he says. Myself, I can only be 90% with him. I’ll still listen to him but more carefully examine what he says, putting to good use his own prescription of how to detect propaganda.
    The challenge is to examine not the person, but the argument. Isn’t that ad hominem (latin for “directed at the man”)? Haven’t you lost the argument when you do that? Yet here is Miller doing just that. Discrediting Greta Thunberg (and what she stands for) because her great-grandfather “invented” (aka made it up) global warming, pushing aside with one fell swoop the almost total disappearance of Arctic ice, crumbling Antarctic ice sheets, thawing tundra, coral reef dieoffs, droughts, floods, heat waves, fires, not to mention the fact that CO2 levels are measurably up?
    The world, collectively, has taken leave of their senses, including highly educated, intelligent, sensible, GOOD people. Our sense of reality, formerly shared sense of reality, is splintering, breaking apart. I read somewhere that when we talk to our neighbor, even inconsequential small talk about the weather, serves to confirm our shared sense of reality. Does my neighbor see the same things I see? Is the weather really as bad as I think it is? There are somewhere bushmen who even make the act of going to the bathroom a shared experience (they go into the bushes in pairs) so as not to lose their sense of shared reality (according to the anthropologist). Then again, the Romans also took collective shits, although I doubt it was to preserve their sense of shared reality, but rather to gossip and broker backroom deals.
