Presumably this ship got its name because it’s reported to be cleaner-burning than all other bulk carriers.
MV Climate Justice can carry between 30,000 and 40,000 tonnes of coal.

https://gmpphoto.blogspot [dot] com/2012/05/ernst-leitz-canada-limited.htmlAnyway, … it just happened that my parents resided in Midland, Ontario, Canada from 1968 to 1986, and by coincident, have had their immediate neighbour named Walter Mandrel – see text in above link – and his family. Very good and kind neighbours, I might add. Aside: Walter had two daughters, and the younger one just happened to be my age, and so we went to same high school, same grade and the same class through grade 12 and 13th.
And so, I know all about all those Germans who resided in Midland at that time. Pretty well every one of them had a military record of serving in Hitler’s military. Pretty well all of them served in WW-II.
Btw, Midland, at that time (c.1968), had a population of roughly 5,000. About 75+ households were all Germans. Walter’s wife always believed that her younger daughter and me was a perfect match. Post grade 13, I went to the University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Walter’s daughter went to Queen’s in Kingston, Ontario. I never saw Walter or any members of his family after that, …

In case you missed it, America has a new crisis. The government may well shut down Friday. Out of money. It could be solved with a vote, but the hard-right, Trump-lovin’ Republican rump won’t do it. They even punted a bill to fund the military, which right-wingers used to support.
“This is a whole new concept of individuals who just want to burn the whole place down,” says Speaker Kevin McCarthy (also a Republican who caved in to the radicals to get his job). “It doesn’t work.” On social media Donald Trump egged the malcontents on. ‘Cut the purse strings,’ he urged. ParticipantDoomberg: Flying High
The struggle for oil was a driving force in World War II, dictating much of the strategy for the major parties involved. The Japanese went to war as a direct consequence of President Roosevelt’s oil embargo, while Germany’s Hitler became obsessed with the oil fields of Romania and the Caucasus, leading to several decisions that historians now believe precipitated the ultimate defeat of the Third Reich. Tactical blunders aside, the strategic focus on oil is perfectly sensible—war “is nothing more than the concentrated conveyance of destructive energy, and the history of war can best be understood through the lens of primary energy development, its efficient conversion into weapons, and its resulting targeted delivery against the enemy.” Planes, tanks, and supply vehicles would quickly grind to a halt without aviation fuel, diesel, and gasoline. ]…]

No win.
Let’s pivot to the big picture for a few minutes. Because, as they say, what happens in Vladivostok doesn’t stay there. Would you?
As he prepared to greet the pudgy dictator with the weird haircut, Vlad Putin had this to say there about his pal Trump.
“As for the prosecution of Trump, for us what is happening in today’s conditions, in my opinion, is good because it shows the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others democracy,” Putin said Tuesday at an Eastern Economic Forum in Russia’s Vladivostok.
“Everything that is happening with Trump is the persecution of a political rival for political reasons. That’s what it is. And this is being done in front of the public of the United States and the whole world.”
Putin wants Trump to win the 2024 US presidential election. The orange guy would probably suspend aid to Ukraine, leading to a Russian occupation. Trump may also threaten walk out of NATO, which would cause partytime in the Kremlin. (Such a drastic move would now require majority Congressional approval.) […]

ParticipantHmmn, … a family member just received a word from his doctor – after about eight months of investigation with following diagnosis: … it’s either giant cell arthritis or polymyalgia rheumatica, and promptly was prescribed corticosteroids pills of some kind. No trouble, …
The trouble, however, started when that family member received fourth jab (… early January ‘23) which resulted – virtually with an hour – with most the symptoms that, say, Mayo Clinic Press lists. To boot, the idiot family member, in a meantime, allowed himself a fifth jab after about five months after fourth.
Anyway, … in plane language, as I understand, his doctor is basing the above diagnosis on examination of arteries for inflammation, … declared as “massive” and a result of “bad eating habits”, and definitely not a result of allowing to vaxxed five times!
Any comments on above? Dr. Day perhaps?

ParticipantFollowing is worth hearing out. It’s very long, … but there is interesting ‘friction’ – disagreement – between the interviewer and interviewee that is of most intriguing. A summary first, tho, …
… Nate is joined by Doomberg – the anonymous energy/finance analyst team (visually presenting as a talking chicken icon) who uses an energy lens to analyze global trends in the economy, with so far some remarkable accuracy. In this wide ranging discussion, Doomberg and Nate cover the interactions between geopolitics, debt, climate policy, and – of course – energy. How have the narratives created around different types of energy – from renewables to nuclear – affected current policy making around the world? Will the increasingly precarious state of the global debt and monetary system shift the geopolitical landscape? How have increasing global tensions combined with a rise in green energy policy affected nations’ desire for energy security – and what does it mean for future policy as we enter a period of decreasing energy availability?

Participant‘Grain War’, … so thinks Alastair Crooke:
On 19 July, Moscow warned that all vessels approaching Ukraine from the following day would be considered as potential carriers of military cargo, and treated accordingly. Insurance cover costs naturally soared.
A few days later, on 24 July, the grain infrastructure at the Ukrainian port of Reni was destroyed. It was a ‘message’ to the West of Russian resolve to quit the grain deal.
Russia claimed that on 31 July, Ukraine had unsuccessfully attacked a Russian civilian ship and two naval vessels (using three unmanned maritime drones) in the Black Sea. Ukraine denied the attack, and said that it would never attack a civilian vessel. However, a month later, Ukraine admitted attacking a civilian tanker in Novorossiysk port on 4 August.
NATO’ then upped the stakes: Three civilian cargo vessels on 1 August entered the Ukrainian port of Izmail. This port – like Reni – lies on the Danube, a near-literal stone’s throw from (NATO) Romania. It was a NATO ‘taunt’ – the Black Sea is no ‘Russian lake’, it implied. And the vessels were docked within 500 metres of NATO ‘territory’. One vessel was owned by an Israeli company; another to a Greek, and the third to a Turkish-Georgian company – but they were all registered to states such as Liberia.
On 2 August, Russia flattened the grain silos of Izmail, using precision drones.

NEW YORK, Aug 14 (Reuters) – A new COVID vaccine is due out next month, but health experts and analysts say it is likely to be coolly received even as hospitalizations from “Eris”, a variant of the Omicron form of the coronavirus, rise around the country.
Some public health experts hope that Americans will welcome the new shot as they would a flu jab. But demand for the vaccine has dropped sharply since 2021 when it first became available and more than 240 million people in the U.S., or 73% of the population, received at least one shot. […]
