ParticipantParis (France), Britain, and U.S.; boo hoo. You reap the thing you sow.
Innocent’s? There are no innocents in this Orwellian nightmare sown by the deep state and shadow governments of the U.S. and west in general.
Any who live in/under democratic governments, are directly responsible for the actions of their governments. Until this is understood; this insanity will continue unabated…V. Arnold
ParticipantExcuse me? … “..younger households are forgoing the opportunity to accumulate wealth..”
Sorry Ilargi, but the best laugh I’ve had in weeks.
The sheer hubris is just stunning, no?
Another sure sign of rot from within…V. Arnold
ParticipantAt some point, this all gets boring. Same old, same old thing…
Having withdrawn all support from the whole system a decade ago; let it do what it will…V. Arnold

And, just what needed clarification?

ParticipantFUBAR (the world in general)!
Oh the irony; if Russia became the most desirable place to relocate. Russia’s central bank chairwoman, Elvira Nabiullina, successfully guided the Ruble through it’s crash and recovery. She was an effective foil to the U.S. sanctions debacle, which may yet screw the EU into depression.
If one reads the good stuff, then one knows Elvira Nabiullina has gotten kudos from many western economists for her acumen in things financial within Russia (and we got Yellen, yuck!!).S.E. Asia’s numbers (specifically Thailand) are proportionately smaller than China’s, but serious nevertheless. Tourism somehow manages to surprise, but cannot carry the economy. A housing bubble appears imminent and household debt is at 85% of GDP.
This cannot end well and I lost my crystal ball eons ago…November 4, 2015 at 12:56 am in reply to: Europe Will Never Be The Same. Neither Will The World. #24729V. Arnold

I was with you until your last 9 lines. Islamaphobic as hell.

This is the world we live in; change it if you can…
But in the end; this is the world we live in.V. Arnold
ParticipantQuite apart from the world wide political morass; I think Gaia has already kicked in with lowered fertility rates over most of the planet.
We think we’re running things and that lack of humility/understanding/awareness, is going to make no difference what-so-ever.
The closest analogy would be the arcade, where we grip a steering wheel in an auto racing game, feeling confident we’re in control…until the dime runs out…V. Arnold

A sovereign country never needs to ‘borrow’ it’s own currency.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iceland? Argentina? Sovereign countries that defaulted on their foreign debt…
They could not print their way out of debt; the U.S. is the holder of the worlds reserve currency; a very unique position allowing many transgressions not afforded the rest of the world…V. Arnold
I really do not know what bluebird knows or believes; but he/she said banks print money; indeed they do not print money. They do however create money by issuing debt. So, when he/she speaks of barter as a survival tool, I do not know what he/she understands.
I do strongly recommend Graeber’s book for a thorough understanding of money, debt, and credit. Barter mostly doesn’t work because it depends on a coincidence of need and supply between the parties involved.
CheersV. Arnold
Participant@ bluebird
That societies evolved from barter to a money based economy is a myth.
David Graeber, in his recent book, Debt, the First 5,000 Years, insists there is no and never has been, any evidence barter (as a system) existed. The supplied link is an excerpt from chapter 2.
The entire audio book is also available for free at the linked site.
Really? One usually reaps the things one sows.
The hypocrisy and downright duplicity of U.S. policy in the M.E. is just stunning. Russia’s bombing has accomplished more in 2 weeks than the U.S.’s 1 year plus pathetic action; a misnomer at best.
I’m rather shocked, disapointed, and confused by your post.
Do I mis-understand some irony or sarcasm?V. Arnold
ParticipantI liked this pod-cast very much; probably because of Jack Spirko’s ability to follow and question Nicole’s machine gun like delivery. I think Nicole is so practised and knowledgeable of her subject; she delivers reams of information by the gigabite per second. 😉
I think she gave a pretty damn god (a typo I’ll leave), good over-view of the present…V. Arnold
ParticipantUS and EU have no idea what to say or do. Oatmeal for brains.
• Vladimir Putin Condemns US For Refusing To Share Syria Terror Targets (AEP)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Argh! You unduly cast aspersions on a wonderful/healthy food, oatmeal. 😉The U.S. hatred and prejudice towards Putin blinds them to reason. Russian forces have accomplished more in one day than one year of U.S. “intervention”. One must seriously question the U.S.’s intentions towards actual terrorism.
Differentiating, by degree, the levels of terrorist’s intent, is a fools errand.
Further; Assad’s removal would just be another stupid de-stabilisation in the M.E.
But then that seems to be the intent of U.S. policy; total chaos…V. Arnold
ParticipantWhat the world does not get is; that here is SE Asia, people can and do, as they please…
The problem is oversight; there isn’t any.
So bitch and moan as you will; things will not change; at least in the near term…
This is also true in most of the world!
So, do something, or shut up…V. Arnold
ParticipantIt is said, there is good debt and bad debt; which has been true until recently.
I would suggest that with the uncertainty in today’s economy, there is no good debt for the average person/family.
Cash and savings rule and debt kills.
There is a lot of noise out there; sound judgement must come to the fore if one is to survive…
Save your self.V. Arnold
ParticipantEconomics is just politics in disguise.
I agree, but; has that always been the case? I think it’s a distinct possibility.
V. Arnold
ParticipantThe economists (whatever that means) have a tiger by the tail; a tiger of their own creation which, ultimately, they cannot control.
The gross stupidity, greed, criminality, and ignorance, is just stunning in it’s breadth and depth…
Side stepping that will require deft moves.V. Arnold
ParticipantMay I offer my condolences Illargi; my parents spent the last 6 months of my father’s life in my home, where he died of a virulent form of leukemia. He had a young, progressive, female doctor who gave him the means to opt out; which he finally did.
The best to you going forward…V. Arnold
ParticipantI already told you; I’m done with this “conversation”; I’ll leave it to you to understand your framing and belief system; bye.

ParticipantNo, you are not using physics; you’re abusing physics. I know for a fact steel starts to go plastic when heated past 800°f.
Having worked as an engineer I’ve read it all and the Truther’s are just; oh never mind.
The top floors did pancake the floors below. Truther’s are wack jobs and conspiracy paranoids.
Compare a true demolition and it goes from the bottom up; not top down.
I believe my own lying eyes; not fantastical theories. I have zero doubt the government knew the plane attack was coming and did nothing to stop it.

ParticipantHere in Asia, gold is and historically has been, an integral part of the cultures.
A far different set of values than the west; gold is very fungible here, as there are gold shops everywhere ready to buy and sell by a simple walk-in.
Bullion and coins can be problematic (for exchange), but jewellery is a whole different reality. Rings, bracelets, necklaces, et al, can be bought in a wide variety of weights, which make them very useful (without the security risks) for small, medium, and large expenses.
Personally, I do not view gold as a savings tool, but rather as a security reserve for emergencies. As the old saw goes; don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
It shouldn’t matter what the day to day price is if one wants security; not investment…
Gold as an investment is a fools errand, IMO…V. Arnold
Participant…a de facto separate nation, still racist , still ignorant.

ParticipantMigrants, migrants, migrants; they’re not fucking migrants! They’re refugees, damnit!!!
The U.S. and the EU and UAE are bombing the shit out of the M.E.. An entire region intentionally destabilized forever. All by design!

I’m inclined to agree with you. Nicole has obviously thought this through; it was this video-cast where I finally understood Nicole’s position. Previous, I was inclined towards hyperbolic protestations.
I don’t see this as a sudden event; but a more fluid process. Geographically; different geographical areas will be effected in different ways over time.

ParticipantTo print “it” whole or in parts? Do exactly what you have done here. Print links to all chapters; best of both worlds, no?
V. Arnold
ParticipantAll in all, this seems a very western-centric outlook. Which, given the audience, is reasonable.
My POV is S.E. Asian; so I don’t see the same scenario going down. Third world and emerging economies are not subject to the same vulnerabilities, IMO. These represent important differences; food, fuel (vehicle, cooking gas, and electricity) are not import dependent, but rather regionally supplied.
Yes, collapse of the western/world economies will effect the planet, but regions will be affected in different ways, IMO. It’s important to understand the differences; again, my opinion is based on my 12+ years of self exile in S.E. Asia and learning how their cultures and economies work…
A major advantage is climate; no heating in winter (mostly, some exceptions), and if one is smart; no air-con in the summer.
In any event; the application of intelligence is most critical…V. Arnold
