Well my, my, my … I just received a [very long] text from Nancy Pelosi begging for a donation of $14 in this “make-or-break moment” … which is the perfect opportunity to “replace every last extremist Republican” during the upcoming elections. Dear Nancy, me thinks the Democratic party needs to update their database. đ
I was a #walkaway following the 2016 Democratic Primary debacle. Literally registered Republican for the first time in my life after that BS (prefer to be Independent, which I registered as for awhile, but NY has closed primaries and if you don’t have a primary affiliation you get shut out, and I hated that).
I’m embarrassed to admit I voted for Obama in his first round. Caught on within a few months that was a dumb move and voted 3rd party during his second run. And then it was 2020. I voted straight Republican ticket (vote red no matter who … wait, that doesn’t rhyme).
I’m considering starting a new political party focused on “voting for whichever politician doesn’t look like they were embalmed a decade ago …”
Hi Oxy. đ Life has sucked pretty awful lately and I don’t have the energy or desire to participate in online debates. However, I do agree with you – Dr D is a major contribution to this message board. I look forward to his posts. They get me thinking. I’m sorry V.Arnold sees it differently. And it’s curious V.A. does since John Day (also a welcome addition) isn’t criticized for doing the same thing? But who am I to question anything.
Mainly I just don’t get it anymore Whatever it is.
Oh, and PS [Oxy] … yes, there is more to life than the physical reality. Along the lines of “all that is” no matter what someone names it. Animals know this and abide by it … humans, kinda dumb, struggle with it.

Agreed. Actions speak louder than words. Watch what’s happening. Stop trying to talk *over* what the MSM is spouting. That’s wasted energy. Stay silent … just wait and watch. Americans as a people are quite easy going and peaceful, otherwise we’d all be dead based on the number of guns in this country. But there comes a time when Americans have had enough.

I actually have no problem with Musk opening his satellites to Ukraine. He’s a businessman. He has a product. Someone asked to use it. He let them. Seems a nice change from the businesses that base their business decisions on politics, especially the woke politics. Maybe Musk isn’t taking sides? Idk, I don’t pay attention. But maybe if Russia had asked, Musk would open the satellites to them as well.
As far as Musk blocking someone on Twitter – individuals block others all the time. No big deal. That’s their prerogative. Has nothing to do with Twitter bans/deletions impacting free speech. Just how dumb are these twit-f*cks anyhow? People need to put out the fire that’s raging in their hair and get a grip. Musk’s a big boy. He seem pretty brilliant. He’ll figure out the Twitter thing. Get out the popcorn. Should be interesting. But definitely not worth burning your hair off over.

I work in FRONT of a computer all day, which I consider terribly dehumanizing, but I hadn’t considered how different it would be if I were “behind the scenes,” so to speak, building the platforms. You can’t “see” anything but a bunch of code on a screen. 40+ hours a week. Code. Code. Code. On a screen.

@Kassandra: interesting, and I’m hearing similar concerns in my industry (write grants for nonprofits). For example, recent nonprofit client that provides well-recognized, high quality youth theatre education programs for ages 5 -18 (separated into 3 groups by age). Said the kids have come back from lockdown, etc., and are basically unmanageable. Bouncing off the walls, very short attention spans, communication skills have deteriorated. They’re trying to figure out how to deal with it – they’re thinking it will be slow going to bring the kids back to where they would have been prior.

Na, you nailed it. John Day is being optimistic with the “working ok” observation. Really, is it? Conversations about stock markets, money, politics and (totally un-PC with this) Ukraine/Russia conflict (it’s not a war) are not getting us anywhere. It’s just an endless conversation, and waste of precious energy, about the new “topic du jour” that we have no control over and cannot impact even if we wanted to. Think otherwise? Go ahead, contact your “elected representatives” and tell them you don’t agree with a hot war with Russia. Let me know how that works out.
You are correct. As is susmarie with her comments, because in her own way she presents the same idea … leave the BS behind, go find the *real* world and live in that.

I call BS on that statement. The vaxx mRNA was described as similar to natural mRNA in that it breaks down within hours of injection. It was never ever [ever] described as an mRNA that breaks down sometime, maybe, possibly, we’re not sure … sometime over the next 4 or more months.

That is entirely normal. It gets easier over time but self-doubt never completely goes away, which is a good thing. Keeps a person from getting arrogant. I started 20+ years ago, beginning with vet care for my two black labs, and it grew from there to include my own health care. (Although not getting vaxxed was a no-brainer).
We’ve been programmed for decades to look to medical professionals to make the decisions, solve our health problems. Taking responsibility is a leap of faith – in ourselves – which has been eroded by the system.

@susmarie: lol. sure! A glass of red it is – or two!! đ I wanted to respond to your question about the spike protein and the vaxx vs natural infection response but unfortunately I *think* in big picture, not details, so although I *get* concepts, it’s hard for me to explain them.
What I’ll say is … yes, people with the vaxx are more prone to bad outcomes because the body has been trained (via mRNA telling its own cells to produce a specific spike protein) to recognize only one aspect of the virus (the original spike) and so it can’t effectively respond to the whole virus, making overall immune response to spike proteins less effective. That’s really really really simplified.
But, frankly, if you haven’t been vaxxed, don’t worry. Your body knows what to do. And at this point, the sheer size of the “long covid” cohort needs to be called into question. Is it long covid? Or is it the results of vaxx damage? (and I ask this as someone with “chronic lyme disease” which I don’t consider chronic lyme at all, I consider it immune dysregulation due to infection)

@phoenix: I’m sorry about your church. My spirituality has re-emerged quite a bit over the past two years and I was considering returning to church service after decades. I spent time researching all the congregation options within a half hour or so and discovered that no churches have actually returned to “normal” and are having unmasked, un-socially distanced services. Horribly disappointing – I decided to bag the whole idea. You summed it up perfectly with this “….they are faith-based upon the dictates of revered authorities.”
And in doing so have broken the basic tenet of religious belief: Thou shalt have no other God before me.

Four months into my new job with a highly woke company and I’m already in trouble for opposing the stereotyping of an entire group of people (whites, of course) rather than considering each person as an individual. My misbehavior has been escalated up to the company’s CEO. Management asserts I’m experiencing white vulnerability because I’m “coming to terms with” a new way of looking at racial equity.
