Yeah, Red, Cadieu is a weird story. George Webb in a Twitter video connected him to biolabs. Wait, here:

The “leak” appears to be a really bad thing for the functioning of the judicial system. 9 judges each have 4 “subordinates”, so 36 + 9 = 45 possible leakers. But the 4 “Dem” judges, plus their 16 “helpers” (= 20) are much more suspect. A grand old mess.

But I am wondering what all you guys and gals think and feel about the whole issue. Me, first I think Alito’s argument that Roe was a poor piece of legislation warrants attention. Second, I support the right to abortion, but it feels too much of a free for all today. Yes, you can decide about your own body, but not to some infinite degree. For one thing, a term limit, as most countries have, appears to make sense.

There are two lives at stake, whether you like it or not.

I sure wish we could keep Weird Gal Jancowicz around as a one woman wrecking ball to the Biden admin; she could do so much damage. But I’m afraid even in that camp someone will say: we took this one giant leap for mankind too far. Still, we can hope. That they will think she’s the perfect answer to the threat of Elon Musk. Or something. Sometimes it feels like his entire admin functions at Biden’s cognitive level.

I find all this scary as hell:

Vice President Kamala Harris tests positive for Covid

Harris completed her two-dose regimen of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in January 2021. She received her first booster dose in late October and a second booster vaccine on April 1. The vice president’s positive Covid-19 test comes as the US has largely lifted most of its Covid-19 mitigation measures after the Omicron variant spike over the winter.

Safe and effective. But the scariest part is here:

Harris had been scheduled to receive her intelligence briefing at 10:15 am ET Tuesday

The cackling witch of the west gets intelligence briefings. She’s one step away from the no. 1 office. Couldn’t get over 2% in the presidential run. The US is in a war. That is scary.

I’ve seen quite a few people on Twitter today who say that in the past 24 hours, they’ve magically gained 1,000-10,000 followers, ostensibly because of changed “measures” (or is that a Covid only term?).

No such luck here. @AutomaticEarth has been virtually frozen for as long as I can remember, ie 10 years+, at 3,800 followers +/- 1% or so. Through those years, there have been huge shifts in readers numbers, both up and down, 50% (?!), but followers has always remained in that very narrow range.

It’s just something I’ve accepted. Someone put a freeze on it 10-12 years ago and that’s it. But yeah, it’s still weird to see it. Of course, Facebook simply cancelled our account for murky reasons, and never explained, 6-7 years ago?!. Not sure if that’s better or worse than being frozen for a decade.

Gonzalo Lira is missing. He was supposed to appear on a show with George Galloway last night, but never logged in. His last know whereabouts appear to be Kharkiv.

Saker: if Gonzalo has been seized by the local Gestapo, his only chance of survival is either being freed by a Russian special operation (assuming the Russians can find out where he is held) or an exchange. To be honest, both options are highly unlikely. Please keep him in your prayers!

Do I get this right? Twitter’s “poison pill” plan means the value of all shares will be diluted, not just Elon Musk’s. Everybody loses to cost Musk some money.

Existing shareholders are offered newly “printed” shares. More shares=less value per share. Twitter’s board is in breach of their fiduciary duty and Elon Musk can and should sue them. Every shareholder should.

Elon Musk Launches $43 Billion Hostile Takeover Of Twitter (BBG)

    Bret Taylor

    Chairman of the Board,

I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy.

However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.

As a result, I am offering to buy 100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54% premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38% premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced. My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder.

Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it.

    -Elon Musk

What a great painting by Jean-Francois Millet, Charity is simply beautiful.

Note how the charity recipients are just about invisible. Which makes me think of a song Stephen Foster wrote in 1854, same time as the painting, Irish potato famine.

T’is the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more.
    Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh! Hard times come again no more.

While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay,
    There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh! Hard times come again no more.

There are many versions of it, including a Springsteen one, but a billionaire singing about frail forms fainting at the door seems a bit much. So I’ll stick with the McGarrigles (hey, I’m a Montrealer) and Emmylou Harris:

In Australia the aborigines had been competently managing the entire continent as one huge estate for tens of thousands of years — until the Europeans barged in and wrecked so much of it. It can be done, but it takes learning, education and patience.

The difference is a surplus of energy. In this case wood, and later coal, oil, etc. Any organism that gets such a surplus will consume it as fast as they can. To restore a natural equilibrium. It’s “programmed” into our brains.

Same brains, same people, different circumstances.

    chooch,

People can read propaganda in a million places, they don’t need to see it repeated here. The accusation of indiscriminate attacks on civilians makes little sense, since if that was what Russia wanted to do, they could have flattened Ukraine in 2-3 days. Indiscriminate, deadly and effective. When you read about things like the bombing of a children’s hospital, that should set off an alarm too. It’s one step away from eating babies, a tried and tested accusation for 1000s of years.

I don’t understand why the public hasn’t just accepted the reality that Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube are not platforms where meaningful discussion or analysis of anything even remotely political or otherwise controversial can take place.

    Willem, Oroboros,

These are the places where the most people are. For now. That is their value, certainly not what they do with their users and/or content. Just numbers. And that will change. For the same reason that people resists masking and lockdowns. But most people do no resist. So it takes some time. Just as it takes time for people to realize social media are just social control hubs.

    Cancel culture. Steroids.

    Wales Bans Tchaikovsky

The Cardiff Philharmonic has cancelled an all-Tchaikovsky programme as ‘inappropriate at this time’. The concert included his decidedly apolitical second symphony, known as the Little Russian. The orchestra says: ‘: In light of the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, with the agreement of St David’s Hall, feel the previously advertised programme including the 1812 Overture to be inappropriate at this time. The orchestra hope you will continue to support them and enjoy the revised programme.’

This is unutterably stupid. At the start of the First World War, the Proms conductor Sir Henry Wood informed the British government that he would continue performing Wagner and other Germans. The same rule prevailed in the Hitler war. Only the Nazis ever banned Tchaikovsky. Welcome to Cardiff 2022.

Yeah, Oroboros, true enough, but Gettr also collects a lot of data from you. And it’s small, you’re talking to, and get info from, a limited crowd. I’m kind of waiting for Suzie Dawson’s Panquake to be finished. They built on Assange”s ideas, what he would do if he could. Which promises to do none of that censoring or data collecting . But a platform like this takes time and money to build. And many people to contribute it. I have good hope they can show that it is possible.

    Oh, and anticlimactic,

Over a third of Ukraine could be pro-Russian.

Given that Yanukovich was elected as president in 2010(?!), that would be 50%+. Maybe some change, but surely not from 50 down to 33%. There wouldn’t seem to be any reason for it.
