And then you have all those allies who declare their solidarity with the UK. You think they’ve all been given the detailed proof that nobody else is allowed to see? That wouldn’t work, they’d be far too afraid to would be leaked. Only logical conclusion is there is no proof, and/or most allies haven’t seen it. Scary stuff.
UK expels 23 Russian diplomats. For something they have no proof for (that has been made public). You can’t credibly say that it’s highly likely it’s the Russians because the poison is theirs and they’ve used it before. If anything, that indicates the opposite. Fat finger false flag.
VA, it’s not an American problem (only). This is unfolding all over the western world -and Japan-. Many if not most pensions funds and governments must be aware of this, but there’s no gains in going public with it. Moreover, it’s as anti-neoliberal as it comes. It’s just a matter of waiting for the first country to acknowledge the issue and act upon it. Which ironically requires recognition of the fact that UBI stays within a society if done well, so doesn’t cause huge deficits. But for that to work, you have to make ‘your own steel’ (or the money will flow out all the time). Globalization would require a global UBI, and that ain’t going to happen. Protectionism is the only way to save your economy, and your people.

I can go to my local fish and chip shop and buy cod roe, or go the local supermarket and buy taramasalata. Cod eggs seem plentiful so why not turn them into cod?
Are you suggesting nature is only wasteful, and we can do much better? The problems with farmed fish, e.g. salmon, suggest the opposite. As does our understanding of the living world, I would say, but that’s just me.
But it wouldn’t surprise me to see Elon Musk take a zillion with him to Mars. Where we won’t repeat the same mistakes that have lead us to where we are on earth today, apparently (or else we wouldn’t have to go to Mars).
We need to change the way we deal with nature, not try and change nature itself just so we can keep on doing what we do.

There’s a willingness to stop the pillage, but not a willingness to pay the price for that.
That is due to political and economic systems having vested interests (votes & profits) in making people believe they don’t have to pay any such price and still soothe their consciences.
Just buy green! Only, to keep the ‘green’ ruse going requires sheer endless amounts of subsidies, ”investment”, and bank loans. So far people fall for this scheme. It’s simply marketing: of course you can save the planet (your children’s planet) from your comfy chair. That’s what people want to hear, and so that is what they will be offered.

Links between money and happiness are nonsense propaganda. Happiness is linked to people, community, not individual wealth. Which is why it is highest in countries like Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Thailand. That kind and level of happiness is not even possible anymore in the US, Canada, Europe. It’s what happens when you allow what should belong to a community, to be taken away from it by individuals. If you allow that, the sociopaths will take it all. It’s Gresham’s Law writ large.
And that is also the light to see Putin’s Megan Kelly interview in.
Putin knows who Megan is: someone trying desperately to locate herself in the core of the echo chamber for the sake of her ratings; the least likely spot for any news to seep through to.
If you take a good look at the numbers, and the structure, of the Russian armed forces, the only conclusion can be that Russia doesn’t want war; the opposite of what the echoes claim.
Putin took his state of the union, and the NBC interview, to explain that once again. He’s patient.
I don’t know that Russia is that much smarter weapons wise, even though they spend just 10% of what the US does.
The main difference between the two is that in the US, the military is a way to make money, and efficiency doesn’t fit that picture. It’s exactly like US health care.

It can’t be easy to be CNN. I flip it on, which happens very rarely, like reading the NYT, and for the same reasons, credibility totally shot; so first, a female reporter embedded with Turkish forces in Syria, explains how careful the Turks claim they are not to target civilians (sure…), then Michael Hayden, ex-head of CIA/NSA, fully agreeing with talking head Tapper that it’s ridiculous there’d be some ‘conspiracy’ at the FBI vs Trump, even though that Secret Society thing has long been established, though yes, perhaps you can argue about the level of organization there. Maybe the mysteriously missing 1000s of mails/texts can shed a light on that?
And meanwhile Trump flies into Davos a bigly winner (for now, but still). That is what CNN and its MSM brethren have achieved in one full year+ of 24/7 Donald bashing. And by now of course they have no option left but to double down.
I don’t care for Trump, but what once was news has turned into something entirely different.

V. Arnold, the article today goes into that. Says lack of horses, oxen in North America plays a role. I think perhaps the difference between private and communal ownership is the big one here.
That is a crazy good photograph. I normally don’t do pics without name of artist and date, but this pic overcomes all such criteria to begin with. If anyone knows those details, though, I’d be very interested.
